Great comparison! I have the A74 and A6700. was looking to rent the FX3 to see if it really make a big difference in low light in s-log. Sounds like it would a bit, but for now I think I'm just going to stick with what I have cuz they both do an amazing job for run and gun event filming.
That's awesome, I'm so glad the video could help! The FX3 has great low light features, but the A7IV and A6700 are both amazing cameras as well. Thank you so much for watching the video, cheers!
Absolutely, this can be a little frustrating for sure. Unfortunately, most cameras will overheat in extreme heat conditions, even with a built in fan in it, like I've experienced with my FX3. Depending on what your settings are, the camera is working really hard to create the hi-quality images it's sending to our memory cards, which will also cause our batteries to work really hard as well, causing them to also get really hot. There's is a lot that goes into why these cameras will overheat, but there is a video I saw from Matt Johnson, he lives in Texas I think, and he give a few ideas for preventing overheating that I thought were interesting. I'm not sure how well these tips will work for a vlogging setup, but the video might spark a few ideas and hopefully help to combat the heat a little. Here is the link below. ruclips.net/video/qMrofwf6Olc/видео.html I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions on the A7IV, I'm happy to help however I can. Hey, thank you so much! That’s a Japanese Nata Hatchet from Barebones Living. It’s a great hatchet for building a camp fire and making kindling. Thank you so much for watching the video, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
Awesome vids!! I'm testing the FX3 today for podcasting! I had the A7IV and currently have the A7Cii and although their video is great, the thought of them shutting down mid podcast is not comforting. I like the form factor of the FX cameras, so I'm thinking this will be a sweet setup. Subscribed!
That's awesome! I think that the FX3 is a solid choice for sure. The XLR inputs on the top handle and the cooling fan are a huge plus, especially for a podcast setup. 🎥 Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and for reaching out, it truly means a ton! Cheers, my friend!
Man, great video. Recently subbed. You may know, but Sony offers the XLR-K3M as a standalone unit for the S3, IV, and other cameras with the MI shoe. I have also used the XLR-H1 top handle with my a7S III and a7 IV thanks to the smallrig cage and adapter. It’s pretty bomb.
That's awesome! I have heard that you can use the XLR-H1 with the A7IV but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I may have to puck up that SmallRig adapter. Thank you for the tip my friend! The XLR-K3M is really great too. Thank you so much for watching the video and for subscribing, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
Great video. I shoot a pair A7IV bodies for commercial work and pro rodeo. I recently rented an A7Siii and the low light capability really makes that sensor something special. So, I'm considering the FX3. I'd rather ND the FX3 at 12800 ISO, than use the A7IV at 3200. The biggest thing that hurts the A7IV for me is the 1.5x crop at 4k at 60fps and being limited to 1080p at 120fps.
Hey Matt! That’s awesome, a pair of A7IV cameras is definitely a great way to go. I love the image quality I get from my A7IV for sure. The low light capabilities on the FX3 are amazing and have been a true game changer for my work. I’ve had my FX3 for a couple of years now and I’ve used it on a lot of different projects, as well as my RUclips channel, and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much for watching the video and for reaching out. It truly means a lot. Cheers my friend!
My girlfriend and I both use a7iv for shooting live music sessions with controlled lighting. Thinking about adding a 3rd camera and I’m going back and forth on another a7iv or an fx3. Do you have any thoughts or opinions?
Absolutely, I'm happy to help if I can! Both of these cameras are great and I truly believe that either one would be a great option, especially in a well lit situation. However, the FX3 has a little more flexibility to it, and the low light capabilities are really incredible. Which has been a huge game changer for me personally. Also, even though both cameras are very similar in terms of the specs, I personally like the image quality I get from the FX3 over the A7IV, and there are some features that the FX3 has that the A7IV doesn't have. These are minor differences between the two cameras, but these differences have made things a little easier for me and my work personally. After having the FX3 for a couple of years and the A7IV for a little over a year, I can honestly say that I love both. But I'm especially happy with all that I've been able to do with the FX3, and I'm really glad that I invested in one. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching the video and for reaching out my friend, cheers!
@@foxandcrowncreative bro, thank you so much for taking the time to comment back. As a RUclipsr myself i know the comments section can get overwhelming sometimes. So again i appreciate that. Great video! Really was looking for something like this. I've got a question: lets say you're starting from day one again. You've got the knowledge in your brain you've gathered so far, but you want to invest seriously for the first time in an ecosystem for serious hybrid work (photo & video projects). You're starting solo. Would you go for a new single hybrid system that has a high price tag but covers both photo features and video with output up to 8K and good fps speeds & autofocus as well or would you still prefer the sony eco-system you've got now which is two sony bodies A. a hybrid that can do good video & photos too and B. a dedicated cine cam?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that a lot. That's a really great question. I think, if I were just starting out today with the knowledge I have now, I'm looking to invest in my first camera and plan to do both high quality photo and video work, I would totally go for the hybrid camera. I personally use two cameras often for all of the work I do, so it just worked out really for me. I also bought the FX3 first, then after a while realized I needed a second camera that can be both my "B" camera and shoot high quality photos, and I wanted them to match a little easier in post, so that's when I bought the Sony A7IV. I hope that helps! Thank you for reaching out with your question I really love questions like these. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help. Cheers my friend!
Thank you so much I really appreciate that! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching and for reaching out, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
I see you had some fire and small fireworks clips in this Video. I was gonna buy one of these cams to record Fireworks mostly with great quality and on a proffesional stage and that would be in total darkness and I was wondering if it was best to go for the FX3 for that beacuse of the great ISO and that but I am not sure do you have any experiance on fireworks recording at night with these beasts?
Hey, that's a really great question! I've had the chance to film fireworks a few times, as well as fire with the FX3 many times, and I have to say that the low light capabilities on this camera are incredible. When filming in conditions like you described, I recommend filming at native ISO 12800 because this will give you the least amount of noise, and if you expose for the fireworks you should be able to get some really great footage. I would absolutely consider the FX3 for the job. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video, it truly means a lot. Cheers, my friend!
@@foxandcrowncreative thank you very much! I will go with the FX3 I was also like now that I am up in those prices I might as well give a little extra to make sure it's all good beacuse my main focus is low light recordings and for Fireworks sometimes also very very long sessions of non stop recordings buy one again thank you very much my friend! Great video And at last I am still a little new to recording in low light so what should I go for in a lens? Like very low F. Or some other stuff
Absolutely, I'm happy I could help! I would recommend picking up a lens with something around f1.8 to f2.8. A lot of the lenses that can go as low f1.8 are going to be prime lenses at a fixed focal length. But I've used some really great zoom lenses at f2.8 and it's worked out really well for me personally. There are some really great inexpensive lens options, like Sigma for example. But when filming in the conditions that will be filming, native glass has alway work best for me. It's hard to nail focus in total darkness, so I will usually switch between auto and manual focus when filming something like fireworks to dial it in. The FX3 already has amazing auto focus, but in my personal experience, it's even better when paired with native Sony lenses. I also have another video with some tips for filming in low light. Hey man, definitely need some insight... very long story short, canon shooter for a decade-mainly photos- but i do this full time... and more than half of my business clients are having me do more docu style and doing more video, switched to sony for their colors, and so many more lens options. I was torn between the IV and the FX3... chose the IV - having buyers remorse and it hasnt even been delivered yet. Thinking already to switch, return it and do FX3... the hangup is i have clients that want hybrid work. Opinions on fx3 stills? I also do alot of work in gyms, hot yoga, i'm terrified of the overheating and the low light is so attractive. thoughts?.
Absolutely, I'm happy to help if I can! I use to be a Canon shooter as well, but then I switched to Sony cameras years ago and I've been really happy them. In terms of stills, the FX3 can get stills that look great for social media or anything online for sure. However, when it comes to prints, it's built to produce high end video quality, so it doesn't have the capability to produce hi-res images that would be formatted for print. If you are working with clients that need print quality photos then the A7IV is going to work really great for that. In terms of low light, for me, the low light capabilities on the FX3 has been a game changer. I've been able to use it for projects like RUclips videos, documentaries, client work and even sometimes a narrative shot film. The flexibility of this camera has made a lot of things easier for my personally, and has saved me a lot of time in the long run when it come to video production. With all of that said, I actually bought the FX3 first, then eventually bought the A7IV for stills and my BTS camera. But if I were to go back, I think I would've bought the A7IV first, then saved up to purchase the FX3. The A7IV still has pretty great low light capabilities, and there are ways to get around the camera overheating. Although, it is still something to consider if you're working with longer recording times, like long interviews for example. Overall, the A7IV is an amazing hybrid camera and can do both stills and video very well. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching the video and for reaching out my friend, cheers!
Hey, great question! Both cameras will work really great for sports videography in my opinion. The major difference would be low light and hot weather conditions. If you are filming in really hot weather conditions and filming in something like 4K 4:2:2 10 bit in S-log3 for long stretches of time, then the A7IV has a higher chance of overheating. Where as the FX3 has a fan so it's less likely to overheat. Also, the A7IV has a dual native ISO of 800 and 3200, and the FX3 has a native ISO of 800 and 12800, which is incredible and gives for a lot more flexibility. The FX3 would be beneficial if you are in low light situations often. Those are the two things that come to mind. But overall, both cameras will do the job really well in my opinion. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for watching the video, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
Hey! Great question for sure. In my opinion, both companies have great camera options that will work well for sports. I truthfully don't have a whole lot of experience in filming sports, but what I have learned, and what comes to mind right away when considering which camera to get, are rolling shutter and focal length. Rolling shutter is when there is a lag in the image because the sensor is trying to capture all of the info in the image, while also tracking quick movements. There is a lot more that goes into it but this is basically what's going on when rolling shutter occurs. The reason I think this might be an important thing to consider is because, when filming sports or athletes, there are usually a lot of quick movements happening, so having a camera that can track the subject without that warping effect might be worth considering in your decision. I also think of focal length because, in sports, we are usually filming a subject, or subjects, that are going to be a good distance away. But I'm mainly thinking of sports like, surfing, football, baseball, track and field, etc. In this case, investing in something like a 70-200mm lens might be worth considering as well. If you are filming indoors, like crossfit, gymnastics, martial arts, and sport such as this for example, then having a camera with great low light capabilities can also be a huge help. I think all in all, I personally feel like both Canon and Sony have great camera options on the market today that could work very well for this type of work. I think it will ultimately come down to your personal preferences and what you feel is going work best for you and the work that you do. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching the video and for reaching out. Cheers my friend!

Is it worth investing in fx30 ?? I know it’s a small sensor will you do a review on that please And can you tell what lenses you use for cinematic videos on fx3
Great question! In my opinion, it really just depends on what your current needs are, but I absolutely feel that the FX30 is a great investment. The crop sensor can feel limiting for some folks, but there are many ways to work around that and still get really hi-quality images. I would love to do a review on this camera! I'm actually working on a few video ideas that I'm hoping to start on soon. In terms of lenses, there are a few that I really like, but I'm primarily using the Sony 35mm 1.8 and the Sony 24-70mm 2.8. Thank you so much for reaching out! Feel free to reach out with any other questions you might have, I'm happy to help. Cheers!
Absolutely I'm happy to help! The Sony 24-70mm I have is a GM and the Sony 35mm isn't a GM. Both lenses have been really great. A lot of the videos on my channel I shot using these lenses primarily and been really happy with the results so far. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help. Hey, great question! The A7IV does record 4K 60fps cropped, but the crop has never bothered me personally. I've been using both the FX3 and the A7IV together for a few years now, they have their differences for sure, but overall the A7IV is a great alternative to the FX3 in my personal opinion. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
Hello Fox, I have a question: I just bought the Sony a7iv to make documentaries. Overall I think it is a great camera. However, I did some warm-up tests and it turned off several times after some 60fps tests in 4k. My question is this: Does the camera sensor suffer in the long term when it is turned off due to overheating? Thank you.
Hey Sebastian! Great question for sure. I've had the A7IV for a year and a half or so, and in that time I haven't had many overheating issues personally, but in the times that I have I would let the camera cool for a bit, then turn it back on and kept filming, and I haven't noticed any harm to the sensor at all. The A7IV has a safety feature that triggers when the camera gets to a certain temperature to protect the circuitry inside when the camera overheats, which I believe should help to protect the sensor as well. With that said, I would recommend always being aware of when your camera might potentially overheat, especially on longer shoot days, and always let your camera cool down whenever you can. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching the video and for reaching out. Cheers my friend!
@@foxandcrowncreative Hey! I absolutely appreciate your answer... Yes, I think the camera will be safe with that shut down... Thinking it deeply, it will be stupid from a brand like Sony to allow the camera itself get damage by not shutting down during overheating... So... Good news for me ! Thanks
Hey, thanks for reaching out! That's a great question. It definitely depends on the production, but I would absolutely use these cameras for a documentary film. I love how small they are and you can still get a great image from these cameras if you you know what to look for. I've see quite a few documentaries filmed on the FX3. I too have filmed a couple of the documentaries on the Sony FX3. One is still in production, but the other I published on my channel last year. It's called AGO. I'll leave a link to the video below if you are interested in checking it out. For the A7IV, I mainly use it as a "B" camera and to film behind the scenes content. But with that said, if this was my only camera, I would totally use it to film a documentary. The one thing I will note is that there can be an overheating issue when filming in high quality formats for long periods of time. There is a way to bypass that but it can still potentially cause issues. It can be especially frustrating when in the middle of filming an emotional scene or interview and the camera shuts down. I'll usually have to wait a bit for the camera to cool down before I can start filming again. So for that reason, as well as the low light capabilities, I prefer the FX3 over the A7IV when filming a documentary. I hope that helps! Thanks again for reaching out and for watching the video. It truly means a lot. Cheers!

Will the A7 iv hold up for sports videography or would it be better investing in the FX3?
Cheers!
Super positive video. Thanks👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Which camera sony or canon would you recommend for sports videos mainly ?

What XLR mic did you use for the FX3?
Hey! I use the Sennheiser MKE 600. Love this mic! I've used many mics in the past, but I've had this one for a few years now and I use it for a lot of my projects, and the majority of the videos on my channel.
I hope this is helpful! I've left a link below if you're interest in checking it out. Thank you so much for watching the video, it truly means a lot, cheers!

what is that filter on the a7iv?
Hey! It's a VND/Polarizer from K&F. I've been using a couple of these for about a year or so and I really like them a lot. I hope that helps! Thank you for watching the video. Cheers!

Thank you so much my friend, I really appreciate that a lot!
Is it worth investing in fx30 ?? I know it’s a small sensor will you do a review on that please
And can you tell what lenses you use for cinematic videos on fx3
Cheers!
Hey chiming in here for the FX3 are the lens that you mentioned did you mean Gm versions or non gm?
Absolutely I'm happy to help! The Sony 24-70mm I have is a GM and the Sony 35mm isn't a GM. Both lenses have been really great. A lot of the videos on my channel I shot using these lenses primarily and been really happy with the results so far. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help. Thanks for reaching out, cheers!
Hello, does Sony A7 IV shoot 4k 60 fps crop? I have an FX3 and I want to switch to A7 IV and save up.
Thanks
Absolutely, I'm glad I could help!
Would you use either of these cameras for a documentary?
Cheers!
