One of the best and well balanced review / first take about any bike. With more than 30 years of riding on most types of two wheelers available in India, I am convinced that no bike can ever tick all right boxes....one must decide his priorities and expectations, and then see that a bike under consideration should tick most no of right boxes! That's it. Beyond this, no one will ever be satisfied to the fullest extent. Once, a bike is possessed by you, after considering all aspects (including, finacial, social, need based factors, utility etc), you must be mentally prepared for little avoidable issues being addressed after you bought one. If you can't bear any niggles afterwords, I suggest, you shouldn't hurry in purchasing a machine. Fortunately, we have tremendous strength of social media to get the necessary (and unnecessary too😀) info about pluses and minuses about a product. (This aspect and spread of social media has alerted the manufactures and has kept them on their toes). One must be very clear on his or her priorities about a machine, other things get easier to decide about, for sure!!
Absolutely!! The bragging brigade is too hyper for their limited sojourns!! 😂 I have been travelling long routes since 32-33 years and have done so called offroads on village roads, agri fields, wild journeys in jungle paths even with our 1974 made Yezdi 250 for years together when "highways" used to be just wide enough to get only two vehicles crossing each other barely! Those days, a steelbird helmet used to weigh 2 kg or more 😂. I went through touring on various bikes, last being Himalayan 411 of 2018 make which has excellent ergonomics but shitty build quality. @55, I was waiting for such allrounder bike which should serve all purposes in everyday life and should also be available for long touring and just bit of offroading. Otherwise too, Indian roads, many a times, provide you with sudden feel of "offroad" owing to unexpected potholes.😂. Yes, Himalayan served good enough out of city but its 21"-17" inch set up with longer wheelbase had a bit difficult maneuvering in Mumbai city traffic. There comes the solution with 19"-17" wheels set up achieving a fairly good balance for allround purposes. Still, let's see what Himalayan 452 offers otherwise??🤔

@@PratikSatpute-z3xDo you have some information on the manufacturing techniques of KTM and Triumph engines by Bajaj that leads you to conclude that this bike is more reliable? I would approach the new Triumph 400s with the same scepticism as you are approaching KTM and RE. Only Japanese bikes deserve blind trust up to an extent.

I have watched 100 videos of Scrambler 400x but no one ever mentioned that this comes with Radial Braking Calipers which is used in high end bikes. Even RE don’t use them in there 650 range. Only KTM 390, CB300R and Scrambler 400x has radial calliper system in Indian bikes.

To apply radial braking: 1. Start by applying gentle pressure to both brakes simultaneously. 2. Gradually increase pressure as needed to slow down or stop. 3. Adjust pressure smoothly, without sudden changes.
Nice. I like that they have given this bike as much suspension travel as the 390 Duke but with bigger wheels which would raise the ground clearance. If I put the 390 Adventure's wheels and tyres on my 390 Duke, it should be able to keep up with this bike on a scramble.

Good review. Enjoyed that. I feel the Himalayan and triumph 400 don't have the same markets as what some comments suggest. There's no doubt that the triumph is a superior product in terms of materials and finishing. RE can't compete with that, but they don't have to. People buy a RE to be used and abuse, and fixed with a hammer. 2 different bikes/customers in my mind.
hurry Triumph and get this in the UK shops people are waiting and what is the news if any on a 250cc if you sell that for sub £3K you flood the market,
Good crisp yet detailed review PD & Varun. Do you think 400x or 390x will be better for more of highway, city and minimal off-roading. Definitely I will test drive both :). One of the strong pulling factor for both the bikes is the tall seat height :).
@@powerdriftofficial That will be cool ! 390x is due for engine change though and will likely get completely redesigned in a year's time. Could you also consider a comparo between Honda CBR 300 and Speed 400 as well?

Pune roads are like going soft off roading, so I think this should work. I have booked this early on and slightly disappointed that Bajaj didn't offer any inaugural discount.
Wish them well. They have first mover advantage in the 400cc segment. The new Himalayan will definitely affect the sales if this once released and they will surely do a scrambler based on the 452cc engine as well and that'll further affect sales. Bedore anyone says this is a scrambler and the upcoming Himalayan is an adv and 2 different segments, pls understand those are all just talking points on paper. Most indians dont have the money or soace to own different bikes for different needs. Heck most of the XPulses are ridden in the city as commuters. Even though they appear to be really well made and refined, i see this going the CB350 way. When the CB350 and Jawa launched their only USP was a smooth no vibration engine compared to the RE UCE but once the J platform released, game over. Now these Triumphs have the cc and power advan6but once the 452 engine drops, thats going to be it.
the him450 will be for offroad work and does not have neo classic looks--i will try both then decide-my last bike was a honda rally--more like the HIM450--i am leaning towards the TR400X for the sexy looks...actually am interested in seeing the new Hunter450 as well it will be a looker i think--its very good to have choices all great bikes and a very exciting time for us all
Lets not discount pricing, quality and a lot of other factors that are important in the buying process. As enthusiasts, we are really happy that manufacturers are opening up to bigger motorcycles at seemingly affordable prices. Good times :)
When he showed rough patches and said "off roading" i was like what? The Western express Highway in Mumbai is not a highway it is a complete off road with patch no traffic rules. Does not go up against the Scrambler directly but we will get this done
"My name is Varun Painter & I will see you later"
Hahah! :D
Perfect comment doesn’t exi….
Would be great if we could have speed 400 and ktm 390 new duke comparison ...
I want this comparison too
Signed and sealed 😊
hurry Triumph and get this in the UK shops people are waiting and what is the news if any on a 250cc if you sell that for sub £3K you flood the market,
I am waiting for the 250cc variants too.
Good crisp yet detailed review PD & Varun. Do you think 400x or 390x will be better for more of highway, city and minimal off-roading. Definitely I will test drive both :). One of the strong pulling factor for both the bikes is the tall seat height :).
VP is a big fan of the 390 Adv too. Tough call to be honest. We will get a comparo video done.
@@powerdriftofficial That will be cool ! 390x is due for engine change though and will likely get completely redesigned in a year's time. Could you also consider a comparo between Honda CBR 300 and Speed 400 as well?
Would you prefer this rather than the RE scram 411?
All day, every day!
i have a strong feeling this bike is waaaaay better.
Mr Painter, you potrayed a really awesome craft, with all ease.
VP and the entire team at PowerDrift appreciates this.
this is the Hotest Segment currently... its brilliant but its going into a fight with revamped Titan's... 2024 Himalayan & 2025 KTM 390 Adv, but the greatest question is BMW's next move in this segment
Good times we say 🙌👍👌
Everything is great 👍🏻 but I was looking for pillion comfort review for touring purpose and sadly that's missing in this video!
Youre better off with an adventure bike for your purpose
Full review! Promise.
Only sensible channel not using Himalayan name to sell thr bajaj bike video
🙌🙌🙌
fun bike and around town; since they cut out so many features on the scambler 1200x; its not useful for that price.
Triumph did the business correctly
With whatever we have seen so far, bingo!
The upswept dual exhaust might look and feel good but if I wanted to go for side panniers, wouldn't they create issue??
You might need a saddlestay
@@powerdriftofficial ofcourse I would, but since Triumph is pitching this as a scrambler, and most of the people buying it, would do long distances, they should have provided some panniers as an accessory.
4k finally. Congratulations
Apologies for the delay in getting here. But we will make sure 4K is the way to go going forward.
waste of resources
Man, forget the bike, your riding outfit is 😎😎😎
:D :D :D
hope there'll also be 400 for advs
From Triumph? You mean the Tiger?
@@powerdriftofficialTiger 400 ? That name's got a nice ring to it 😁
Congratulations for the fantastic review, but as a 5'8" touring intended person, should I wait for Himalayan 452? However this is a great looking bike, hope behaviour of Triumph dealers are like that.
Thank you. Since the Himmy is not too far away, we suggest you wait.
Scrambler Vs duke 390…which one will you prefer?
They don’t go up against each other
I like the fact that PD always suggests to test ride a bike before buying. But how do I get a bike for good enough time to test ride it to make a conscious choice? Here in Mumbai dealerships offer the bikes for sub 1k distance test rides.
If you really like the motorcycle in that short ring, request for a longer one.
Hi from Canada. I’m in my 50s, experienced rider, currently riding a 1300cc Stryker. I’m 185cm; is the 400x too small for me? How tall are you if you don’t mind me asking?
You can i think.... Varun is well over 6ft
About 6'2"
'ONE MOTORCYCLE THATS GETTING READY' .... IS IT THE 452 ????
Oh yesss
Or maybe the baby tiger
next they need to have the same in a 600 or 650cc with added display features. Color screen wtih larger numbers is needed. . Sunglasses block out allot.
Just get a tiger 800
Consolation certificate 🏆
😂😂
The Scrambler? Us? We are lost.
company created a benchmark product to sell in volumes but limited to some 15 odd city. The thing is over a period of time buyers like me will loose there interest by the time it reaches to us and we will buy some other bike or we will save some more and move in above segment
That's why consolation certificate for the company for creating a good product
How does this compare to himalayan 450? Is the vibration above 100 persistant?
RE should learn from triumph how make a scrambler and not just redesign the himalayan
But this is just a redesigned speed 400?
@@eddnel2506 Yaa engine is the same but rest everything is different and better made for a scrambler
🍿
display data ? Any ride modes ? Engine temps ? abs on-off control ? Nissan brakes or Brembo ?
Looks good 😊.👍
Bit late to the party though as new RE 452 is out in 2 weeks time. It's eagerly awaited 😊.
Need to wait and see🤔
Two different motorcycles even if they overlap in some ways .
When wiill we have a review on american roads please!
Well, that will take a while.
Analogue tacho! ❤
Old school :)
Is this bike suitable for this condition? If i use 70 % for off road and only around 30% for city.
Maybe look at something else if you are riding about 70% offroad.
Go for Hero Xpulse 200!
Lovely video!
It would be helpful if you guys could give us the deets for the gear which Varun is wearing
Glad you liked this video Sherwin :)
Varun is wearing Rynox Airtex pants, armor on the inside with a riding jersey from Wanderlooms, Gaerne MX boots and gloves from Tiivra. That's the KLIM Krios helmet with KLIM Moto googles.
Great bike and nice review
Pune roads are like going soft off roading, so I think this should work. I have booked this early on and slightly disappointed that Bajaj didn't offer any inaugural discount.
Yeah. A nice 2.49 lakh price tag would have been brilliant.
do a vdo on 2 up riding; Can the passenger pegs be lowered ? I see you can add a top box.
Triumph should have made the 400 series little bigger in dimension. Looks tiny in flesh. Good for shorter rider though 🤟
VP is almost 6’2” and found it to be proportionate!
@@powerdriftofficial he is 6 2" 😲 I thought he would be somewhere around 5 10".... Then I did the calculation entirely wrong 😬
Waiting for the new Duke 250 review
Did you catch it?
Its actually confusing because u can buy upcoming Himalayan, adv 390 😅
ADVENTURE vs SCRAMBLER. Big difference ;)
When he showed rough patches and said "off roading" i was like what? The Western express Highway in Mumbai is not a highway it is a complete off road with patch no traffic rules. Speed 400 was good but i do daily off-roading via Mumbai's western express Highway so I had to shell out the extra money!!
And it is a dominor with slightly better built quality, same sound.
Nope! Way different. Ride it to believe it
What's the fuel octane recommended by triumph for this bike? Tnx
Will change from country to country.
