What is the best description of Juan Gabriel as an artist? He could make you sing, cry, laugh, dance in one song. Imagine what this man caused in a whole show! He was a Great composer! Great Storyteller! Great performer! Awesome singer! SIMPLY THE FULL PACKAGE!
Us Mexicans are very emotional and very passionate about the things we love. When we love alcohol or women or a hobby or the work we do, we truly truly love it.
I don’t speak a lick of Spanish but I feel those emotions. A sweet declaration of love, sorrow for being spurned, confidence in winning her back. I might be wrong, but this is such a good performance.
FUN FACT: It's actually the oposite, the slow emotional part at the beginning tells how he always lived a happy life "Until I met you" (which is the song title), then when the mariachi starts playing he sings: "[until I met you] I saw the pain in life,..I won't lie, I was very happy, but with very little love". Then when the song gets upbeat he sings how late he understood he shouldn't have fell for her and how bad/mean she was to him. *Fucking Masterpiece!*
I don't think you are wrong. What you see, it's what you get. I mean that you can feel the vibe, the music, the passion and simple like it or not. When I was very young, I did not understand the lyrics from the Beatle's music, but I love most of their songs.
Just to make thing clear, what Humberto wrote is correct, it’s a song about how hurt he was for falling in love, and how miserable he became. Now the interesting part; he’s gay (like super super super gay) so it’s dedicated to a Him not a Her hehehehehe.
That was me after my divorce!!! My friend used to tell me they didn't like it because they felt like breaking up with his wife so we can really feel the pain together!!! Lol
Here I translated the song for you. Enjoy it. Until I met you I didn’t know about sadness, nor tears or nothing that would make me cry. I only knew tender caresses because when I was little, thats what mother taught me. That’s what mother taught me, that and many other things. I never suffered, I never cried. I was very happy. I lived very well. I lived distinctly, something beautiful, something divine, full of life. I knew about happiness, life’s beauty, but not about loneliness, not about loneliness. Of that and many things. I never suffered, I never cried. I was very happy. I lived very well. Until I met you. I saw life with pain. I can’t lie I was happy. Regardless of little love. And too late I understood, that I never should’ve loved you. Because now I think of you, so much more than yesterday, so much more. Until I met you I started to live life in pain, I can’t lie I was happy. Even though there was little love. And too late I understood, that I shouldn’t have loved you. Because now I think of you, so much more than yesterday, so much more. I never suffered, but unfortunately in a night like this when I found you. Now tell me was it worth it, that I met you because I don’t want to see you. You were bad to me, yes very bad, that’s why I don’t want to see you never again. (It repeats) I don’t want to see you (the chorus repeats)
@@thb3306 and it will reach you deeper because he wrote this song for his mother. She left him in a home for orphaned children. There is a tv serie of his life and believe me, there is no chapter in which you do not cry. His life was very sad and hard.
And too late I understood, that I never should’ve loved you. And too late I understood... that I shouldn't love you. Y aquí aunque tampoco estás mal, creo que queda un poco mejor así: I can’t lie I was happy. Regardless of little love. EDIT: I'm not lying, I was happy, althought with very little love Saludos!
I've always thought that this song is the equivalent of Bohemian Rhapsody, in terms of the magnitude and impact of not just the artist, but also in how the musical changes are orchestrated and the lyrics in some sort of way. Well is the only way I can describe it to no Spanish speaking (specifically Latin Americans).
I was just thinking along those lines! When she said "I would kill to have been there" I was like, "yeah, exactly, so would most of us. This performance is like the Mexican equivalent to Queen's Live Aid concert."
I greatly appreciate the fact that you took the time to research him and not only react, but to try to share with everyone a little of what you learned. That's how people live on through others. Thank you for doing this. This video was great and as a mexican I can tell you I personally enjoyed every second of it.

As kids we sat there and thought, “why are they listening to these old guys.” As adults, after all our own hardships we now get it. I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes. Our parents were right...again -_-
Anecdote: this was recorded in a concert that was a huuge milestone for JuanGa... he performed that night at the Belle Arts Museum that before JuanGa was only reserved for more "sophisticated" / classical artists (ballet, opera, philarmonic, etc.). He asked for decades to perform there, and he was denied: the reason is that his music wasn't considered to be 'at the level' of the hall, it was too popular, not 'belle arts' enough. I remember the Mexican fans of him got angry every time he was refused to perform there. And then one day, there was a new head in the Department of Culture (that controls the Museum) and he granted JuanGa permission to perform there to celebrate his 25 years of musical career. I remember how the news and the event itself was a massive accomplishment for both him and the public: the event finally gave him and the public the acknowledgement of JuanGa's music being an art worthy of playing in that hall. So we all celebrated that hystorical day as if it was a triumph, for us the public and for him. When he passed away that same hall held a memorial for him (actually the public started gathering there to say goodbye to him even before the family or the authorities said anything about holding a memorial there - once more, the public decided that that hall was the rightful place to say goodbye to him). JuanGa and his fans made all the art snobs opened their doors to him, to his music, to us and to our music taste.
I just remembered that there was a talk at the time wondering whether or not JuanGa's fans 'would behave properly' at that venue (in that Hall, you are not supposed to stand up and dance, but to stay in your seat and clap at appropriate times haha). Actually in the video you can see that the fans are eager to stand up and they are dancing on their seats but they did not stand up because they knew that if the did, that would have triggered negative comments to them and to Juanga. His fans loved him, so they would not stand up as to not affect him and his chances to play there again. That is also the reason why Juanga at one point in the song when he is about to dance says to the audience: no me provoquen, making reference to "we need to behave in here".
The stories he told in his songs were incredible because you really felt emotion with his music Hasta Que Te Conocí is a perfect example it felt like an emotional roller coaster starts off slow and finishes almost as crescendo it’s beautiful

To Beth and everyone else who doesn't speak spanish, I translated the lyrics of the song. Lyrics: I didn't know about sorrow or tears, Nor anything else that would made me cry, I only knew about affection and tenderness, Because since I was a little kid, That's what my mother thaught me about, About that and so much more I never suffered , I never cried, I was content, I used to live an amazing life, I used to live something so unique, so beautiful Something sublime, full of hapiness, I only knew about joys, abouth the beauty of life, But I didn't know about solitude, About that and so much more, I never suffered , I never cried, I was content, I used to live an amazing life... I just want to clarify that Juan Gabriel wrote this song to his mother. She never really understood him nor supported him while he was growing up, hence why he felt really alone and quite sad deep inside. He was always looking for her approval and always look up to her, but she used to reject him a lot, and that pretty much summs up their dinamic. His older sister was the one who took care of him the most and really cared about him, to the point that he thought for a long time she was his mother, and he called her that way.
His mom also did not visit him at the orphanage. Almost all the kids got Sunday visit, he did not. That’s where he learned how to play guitar and to write. When he was older and released from the orphanage, he went back home where his mother order all his brothers to give him a beating that left him bed bound for a few days. They had to hold his sister from defending him. All because he did not want work the land and wanted to be a musician. Great job with the translation.
He is not only singing, he is making the whole performance. You should hear (and translate, of course) "Amor eterno". I thing that it's going to surprise you.
I saw Juan Gabriel in concert 4 times in the 1980s. The first time I could barely speak a word of Spanish. He was so amazing I went out and bought all his albums and learned all the songs. You have to have seen him live to understand how good he was. An absolute icon in Mexico.

He was such a great live performer, there is a saying in México, "You are as unpredictable as a Juan Gabriel live song" He allways improvised 3 minute songs into 12-40 minute musicals. Also he got to be universally acclaimed by men and women alike in a strong homofobic culture as 70´s-90´s Méxco whlie being so obviously gay on stage. That was probably one of his greatest achievements.
He was known as "The divo of Juarez" the most loved artist in Mexico and Latin America. Thanks for reacting to his amazing performances!!! Viva Mexico 🇲🇽 You will never get tired of watching him !! His music keeps passing generations to generations, his music will never never die !!!
She definitely got the core of the emotions that were playing out in the song. She is very intuitive. She may not have known what, where, when, or why but she definitely understood how he was feeling. Of course it helps when the story teller is a natural born performer. I wish she could understand the lyrics as HER native tongue. She would be totally blown away by their meaning and feeling and story being conveyed. The lyric is just as impressive (if not more) than his singing and performance. She would then understand why the emotions where such a roller coaster. If I'm not mistaken, this song was about his birth mother... which makes the song even MORE emotional.

Another very impressive fact about Juan Gabriel is his ability to improvise added lyrics to his songs when singing live . He's one of Mexico's all time greatest composers, singers and performers maybe even the greatest of all time.
Beth hermosa, he was not only a great singer and a showman but also a great great composer and a great human being. Everyone sing and feel his songs for any occasion and I appreciate you react to him and you also get excited the way we do it when we listen to him.

All his songs are pretty personal that's why, for example this song was for his mother who abandoned him and yet he always wanted her approval, but his older sister took custody of him becoming the mother he loved and learned about love. His life was super tragic that's why he can sing with such emotion
Juan Gabriel sang not your ears but to your soul. His talent was God Given. He was the best singer and performer the world have ever known. May he Rest In Peace.
I used to work with my Godfather who used this song one day to test a sound system in an auditorium. He was actually playing the entire live album (Juan Gabriel en el Palacio de Bellas Artes) when this particular song came on and I totally fell for it. I still don't know anything about Mexican singers except that this is one of the best songs I've ever heard (I'm more of a pop-rock guy). Thanks for your take on it!
The most pain he ever felt was not being loved by his own mom. While the rest of the world adored him he struggled with being rejected by his mom. He is an icon to the LGBTQ+ community, while he never publicly came out he always said "what you see you don't judge". When he died thousands and thousands of people went to say goodbye to Bellas Artes as they did with José José this week.
That will always be a huge mistery because altough he had biological sons he never denied not being gay! He did struggle all life to win the love of his mom!
Why do you care. He did not care about the LGBTQ w.e. community. Plus, the video he said that quote, he was annoyed he got asked and disliked that question. He seemed annoyed like many people who aren't and get asked often. Plus, he didn't wanna talk about his sexuality and you over here bring it up and say he was. You are the type of people that annoyed him
Most impressive is the fact he sang for close to 3 hours, no lip singing, just pure raw talent. Some songs are 26 minutes long, he was definitely in a whole other level
"Heartbreak, sorrow and despair" , are exactly what the song is about, amazing you do not speak the Language , yet you captured the essence of the song at its finest. RiP Juan Gabriel, you will always be remembered .
Great analysis, it a much more emotional song when you can understand the language, most of his songs have this journey of emotions. Definitely he was a wonderful performer. Subscribed! Loved how much you enjoyed the rhythm.

¿Cultura latina?
the story actually is: he began singing in local sort of dead beat club in his navite town Juarez. He then moved to Mexico City were he was not signed by any record company. Needing money to survive, he accepted work as a backup singer to a famous Mexican singer. One night, he accompanied a friend to a party at an actress house and fell asleep. The next day, the actress accused him of robbery and was imprisoned for 18 months. Unable to communicate to his job, and since he didn’t show up to work, he was fired as a backup singer. During his work as a backup singer though he did provide an original song to the record label. During his encarciration, a famous singer who did charity concerts at the prison place, heard him sing and play the guitar. They became friends, she helped him get out of prison and get a record label. And the rest is history.
Humberto Castillo so its confusing. Like love. 🤣
I don't think you are wrong. What you see, it's what you get. I mean that you can feel the vibe, the music, the passion and simple like it or not.
When I was very young, I did not understand the lyrics from the Beatle's music, but I love most of their songs.
Read the translated lyrics in the comments section
Just to make thing clear, what Humberto wrote is correct, it’s a song about how hurt he was for falling in love, and how miserable he became.
Now the interesting part; he’s gay (like super super super gay) so it’s dedicated to a Him not a Her hehehehehe.
When Mexicans are heart broken you will hear this song.

Here I translated the song for you. Enjoy it.
Until I met you
I didn’t know about sadness, nor tears or nothing that would make me cry.
Until I met you
I started to live life in pain, I can’t lie I was happy.
(It repeats)
I don’t want to see you (the chorus repeats)
Thanks! I don't speak Spanish but thd feelings were so clear when listening to him. And now it makes so much sense! Great singer!
I can’t lie I was happy. Regardless of little love.
EDIT: I'm not lying, I was happy, althought with very little love
Saludos!

Agreed!
I was just thinking along those lines! When she said "I would kill to have been there" I was like, "yeah, exactly, so would most of us. This performance is like the Mexican equivalent to Queen's Live Aid concert."

Muchas gracias! Very cool backstory!

And too late I realized
How I shouldn't have loved you,

More than I did yestarday, a lot more,
I never suffered, I never cried,
I was happy
But then I found you,
I don't want you to tell me
If it was worth it or not
To have met you,
Because I don't believe you anymore,
And you were evil,
Yes so evil towards me,
That's why I don't want to see you,
I don't wan to see you ever again.
Thank you. The lyrics are beautiful indeed
Excelente traduccion, hermano. Abrazos desde Puerto Rico :)
His mom also gave him up for adoption, but it was his older sister who took custody

México has a lot to offer to the world in terms of music, culture and of course food! ¡Viva México! 🇲🇽
Spanish music has so much to offer to the world
Beth hermosa, he was not only a great singer and a showman but also a great great composer and a great human being. Everyone sing and feel his songs for any occasion and I appreciate you react to him and you also get excited the way we do it when we listen to him.
In case you didn’t like him enough already , he gave tons of money to charities, and orphans
MSMJ Javi un pinche angelote, ese hombre ❤️
Yes he was once an Orphan
noob master69 u have 69 in ur username and a fortnite/Loki terrible photoshopped picture ur probably a little virgin that cried when fortnite was in the black hole, and if “nobody cares” then why’d u comment on my comment??? And why are u watching this video in the first place?
Cthulu that was Michael Jackson
💛
He is our mexican Freddy Mercury!!!so proud to see You react to one of my favorit signer.
Rodrigo Humberto. Juan Gabriel supera a Freddie Mercury.
Sorry but Freddy doesn’t have what Juanga has... not even close!
He sings with such an emotion that gives me the chills.
Benny all the chills right!
This gives you the chills? Check out his "Amor Eterno" you will collapse
Monserrat you're right. And those that deny the homosexuality/bisexuality of Juan Gabriel are just blind.
@MentalWarfare all his sons are adopted
That will always be a huge mistery because altough he had biological sons he never denied not being gay! He did struggle all life to win the love of his mom!
Why do you care. He did not care about the LGBTQ w.e. community.
Plus, the video he said that quote, he was annoyed he got asked and disliked that question. He seemed annoyed like many people who aren't and get asked often. Plus, he didn't wanna talk about his sexuality and you over here bring it up and say he was. You are the type of people that annoyed him
Bullshit, not only gbt he was mexicos icon
Good reaction Beth 👍🏼
Saludos desde el Perú 🇵🇪 hermanos mexicanos 🇲🇽
Thank you x
Most impressive is the fact he sang for close to 3 hours, no lip singing, just pure raw talent. Some songs are 26 minutes long, he was definitely in a whole other level
I came here to listen what foreigners think about JG's voice, but finally fall in love with this profe *.*
me too! Love from Ecuador!
She is so beautiful and charming
My mom used to listen to this song but the first time I saw the live performance it gave me goosebumps, it is so good.
His most emotional song is Amor Eterno. I can’t listen to it nor sing it without bursting to tears!!
Soy orgullosamente mexicano!
He played in my country and he gave us 5 hours show, he was amazing
"Heartbreak, sorrow and despair" , are exactly what the song is about, amazing you do not speak the Language , yet you captured the essence of the song at its finest.
RiP Juan Gabriel, you will always be remembered .
Another really emotional song and great performance is “Amor Eterno” perhaps one of his most known and memorable songs
with rocio durcal

Great analysis, it a much more emotional song when you can understand the language, most of his songs have this journey of emotions. Definitely he was a wonderful performer. Subscribed! Loved how much you enjoyed the rhythm.
Thank you for react to him. his performe of "amor eterno" is AMAZING.
I love how she told a bit of his story in his life , her reaction to Juan Gabriel was amazing she pause and explained exactly how we can’t even describe what we hear when he would sing ❤️ so much love for him
💛
You should hear "Amor Eterno" a Juan Gabriel's song, sung by Rocio Dúrcal...
Pretty good.
ya me hiciste llorar 😢😢😢
That whole concert was lawfully one of the greatest in music history. Juan Gabriel at the Palacio de las Bellas Artes, the greatest academic artistic centre in the city, with Mexico’s National Symphony Orchestra accompanying his singing. Bravo!
Maestro total
I think this is my favorite reaction video from you ever! I love that first initial smile you give @ 1:10. I love how engaged and memorized you are to this. I'm Navajo and Whitemountain Apache but I grew up in El Paso with a Mexican family. I grew up listening to Mexican music while the house was getting cleaned. I think it's standard to play Mexican music while cleaning. I absolutely loved this video. I've watched it 5 times in a row. Thank you. Much Love and Respect.
My son always ask why I love to play music when I am cleaning the house. Cumbias and quebraditas are my favorite for it 🤣
the story actually is:
he began singing in local sort of dead beat club in his navite town Juarez.
He was born in Michoacán and then move to Juarez
No nació en Cd. Juárez.
Claudia Islas was the bitch who send him to jail, pero que wena bitch era, jaja.
