Bret Michaels did actually a brilliant move on Ritchie's audition, he tests his songwriting skills rather than on the guitar skills it self, sometimes a band needs teamwork on making a good material rather than showing off mostly skills.

All the Poison haters can do one. Richie knows that he was afforded a golden opportunity that millions of others would have died for, and at the time he acted as if he was entitled to it rather than being grateful for it. I’m glad he’s become more humble, wise and grateful as the years have passed - as most of us do. I was around him on a number of occasions during my association with Poison and he was a nice guy and I recall Bret seemed to almost look after him like a little brother.
