Thank you so much for this. I've just got another car and it doesn't really have a 12V setup. When it comes to 12V and electricity I have "teflon brain", I just can't grasp and/or keep the information necesssary. I will rewatch this video, but you explained everything so well and so clearly, including why charging my lithium battery off the alternator wasn't working (see thanks to you I know what that means now!). Thank you again, that was educational and much appreciated.
I've been really intimidated to add electrical into my setup, mostly because i don't understand it that well. You really broke it down well, in a very easy to understand video. thank you so much for doing this.
Great info for a complete novice with money to spend. We isolate additional batteries from our vehicles charger with a $6.00 (USA) toggle switch. Stay safe. Thank you.
Love it! Can you do a video on lithium batteries please? I've got 2x 120ah lithium.. just wondering, do you still read the solar controller as with a single battery? That's kinda what's getting me confused as the batteries are linked together. With the 2 together..what's the reading supposed to be to make sure they aren't run too low? I have them connected to a mppt controller and the 250w house panel up top on caeavan..plus have the 300w folding panel I can plug in at the front of the van via Anderson plug.
Fantastic . I recently decided on a portable battery (Anker 757) and I was wondering what a dual battery setup was. This was a clear video , which made me confident in my decision . Excellent production values too. Thank you!
Awesome video Cahn. I have all this set up, but I still enjoy watching and listening to what you have to say - Knowledge is ha ha POWER! lol. Cheers mate.
? QUESTION ? can I daisy chain 2 or 3 100ah battery boxes by using the Anderson plugs on top of the box. ??? I want to keep it portable not hard wired and need 2 to 300ah. I looked underneath the lid i think it will be ok would be parallel so still 12v
7:13 So that means the 2nd battery will pull charge from sarting battery? Wouldn't it be better to make the alternator turn on? And if the starting battery is low as well as the 2nd battery, the starting battery has to wait until the 2nd battery is charged before current is diverted to it?
Hi there, The dual battery system is set so that it is only going to onflow the charge when the alternator is on, otherwise the starter battery is isolated from the secondary battery. Cheers, Courtney
can i just put a switch between the second battery an the the main battery? swich on while charging, switch off while using the second battery when camping
Can you install an Anderson plug in a sedan for your camper trailer as long as you have that DCDC charger and smart battery isolator or would you need a 4WD to install an Anderson plug?
“I’m not going to explain lithium batteries because we don’t sell them and, after all, this is an infomercial” Seriously though, been enjoying your content of late. Keep it coming.
Hi there, Thank you for the question, they aren't unfortunately and would need to be installed in-cabin or under a canopy to ensure no water reaches your electrics. Regards, Andrew
Id like to know if the factory battery to chassis earth strap needs to be beefed up. Can the factory setup handle all of the added 12v accesories, winch dual battery setup ect that are earthed to the battery/chassis
The question is can you run a 200 mA battery instead of two batteries off that kings 1500 W inverter to charge or use whatever under 1500w it’s not installed a car I just want to as a portable like a generator
I have a kings inverter 3000w bat when I ten on the inverter then I connect a power tool the light ten on red and the power tool is not working, can you explain me what's is the problem with my inverter thank you.....
Hi there, Thank you for the comment, generally should the light turn red for an error code it will usually mean an overload or overdraw, this is common with power tools as they can have high start up power requirements. Regards, Andrew
Hi. Quick question. Can you run a solar panel with an MPPT controller already attached through the control panel which is connected to the 25amp DC to DC charger with solar capability? or Will this cause any issues. PS. Love the videos wish you opened up in NZ. Thanks
Mate, I have a 600W inverter in my caravan, powered by two 135AH AGMs. 600W runs bugger all appliances and was wondering if i chucked it out and got a 1500 or 2000W inverter and inserted it into the wiring circuit if it would be all good to go - or..... does having a bigger inverter require me to put in higher capacity wiring and or different fuses? BTW, really appreciated your video, was really easy to understand unlike so many others....
I've gotten a 115amp hour battery and one of the kings 1500W inverter. Im travelling in an old caravan that has a built in fridge and will be using the 250W solar panel during the day to charge. I was thinking for ease of use I would just wire up the van with 240V power from my battery and inverter to keep my fridge going and allow me to charge sensitive electronics. Will using the inverter for something like a fridge drain much extra power from the battery than if I was running a fridge off 12V? Or is the difference pretty negligible for something like a fridge?
You broke down the subject down into easy to understand components, well done. Now all you need to do is help us wire it all up... 😂 Also, if I want to upgrade from AGM to lithium are there any modifications needed?
Awesome info. But what changes do I need to make, to the kings control box, to be able to draw 1500w through it. The suggested 40a fuse keeps tripping. It's only good for 480w. Should I upgrade the wiring also?
I'm glad people have found this informative, unfortunately I've found the info useless. All I want to know know is, do I need an anderson plug from the battery to the fridge or do I use the 12v plug at the back of the battery box? Instead I'm getting a generalised schematic of the ideal setup. Where have all the straight forward, no nonsense, zero waffle instruction gone?
Ok I’ve got a 100ah battery from you guys and one of your 1500w inverters. Also charging from a dc dc charger and solar. I can run a 650w drill but it shuts down when I try to run a 800w toaster or 1000w microwave. Do I need to get a second agm battery to run this or am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I have 2 X 98ah batteries in parallel and can get up to around 800w before I get the low voltage cutout stop the inverter. I have found you can draw around 40 amps from every 100 ah meaning I can draw 80 amps max. Now the tech parts. 80 amps times 12 volts = 960 watts. But taking loss into account it’s better to use 10 instead of 12 for the voltage bringing it more into line with reality. So 80 amps from my 2 batteries in parallel times 10 = my 800 watts draw. So no I can’t get to the max output without some sort of charger feeding in an extra 700 watts to make up the shortfall. I hope this helps.
Hey Dean, Are you using the wiring that comes with the inverter or have you used longer wiring? It could be due to voltage drop. If we're running high power appliances we try to have the vehicle running so the 25A DCDC charger is taking up some of the slack and helping keep the voltage up. We've also used solar panels to do the same thing. Let us know your set up and we'll see if we can help further! Cheers, Cahn
Didn't hear you mention the type of Battery. If you are running a 1500W inverter you need to have a battery (and cabling) that can handle a constant 135amps. Some batteries have a constant discharge limit of 50amps, so won't run the inverter. Check the constant discharge rate of the battery and make sure it's able to provide the current for the inverter.
we need a step by step video on how to connect the kings dc to dc charger to the kings control box for some of us not so tech wise
Thats what an auto elecs for mate

Great tip about the smart alternator not charging your secondary battery

What a great series this is, Thanks 4WD Supacentre
So chuck out my old smart isolator now i just got the dc-dc. Happy days

Very well explained, thanks.
Can you also plug in 240v for charging say in a van park ?
This was very helpful, thx!

This video is a godsend!! Thanks mate 👍
I see Brenno has the M300 wired in is it hard wired to the battery or dose he have to plug and unplug it all the time
Love it, great info. This information was what I exactly needed.
Epic shots bud! Keep exploring 🤙🏽
Is it alright to use the battery while being charged to 220v charger?thanks
awesome video well done
Excellent video!
Great insights for beginners
Thanks so much for this episode
Where do you get the black , back board you mount everything on?
Hey mate!
It’s just ply wood with marine carpet!
Cheers,

This is brilliant!
are the 12v control boxes and the dc/dc charges water proof
Hi there,
Thank you for the question, they aren't unfortunately and would need to be installed in-cabin or under a canopy to ensure no water reaches your electrics.

Thanks for the clear explanation
Can you shoot a video of how you have yours or Breno’s setup wired?
Great vid
Great content and info .Keep them coming 🇦🇺🍺👍
Thanks 👍
Keep up the good work guys

Why not just run straight to the battery if it's already got an mppt controller.
What would be it ideal battery bank to have
As big as your budget allows

Where can I find the link for your electrical courses!? Really interested! Congrats on this video… super enlightening!!!!💪🏻👍🏻🤟🏻

You need to check the wiring. 1500W will draw 1500/12=135amps, so to be safe you need 150amp wiring and a 150amp breaker.

Whichever you want - do you have an Anderson cord or a cig cord? That might help you decide!
Great video, very informative 🍻
Glad you enjoyed it
lifepo4 for the win

What does this set up cost?
I can't find it on the site only the ones with solar.

this video would be better presented at Ayers Rock
All I need now is to pay you to do it for me please 🤪.... I got lost in the beginning but not your fault it’s just my dyslexia sadly 😕
