2023 UPDATE - Is this video still up to date? Yes! I still recommend using these techniques to hide your base on 2b2t. However, I would suggest building your base a bit further out than what I originally recommended. If you want your base to last the longest, I now recommend you build at least 1 million out from spawn. Happy base building!
Thanks Sal!
Thanks! i was worrying these were out of date!

The best method for making sure your base is never found is actually extremely simple. All you have to do is be completely unable to log into 2b2t no matter what time you try. This means that you never even have a chance to create a base, ensuring that it can never be found.
this method works best when the queue is over 400+

Extra tips: I recommend making unfinished bridge over lava pool so people will think that you died here. Then you will go back to your previous location build a portal. I also recommend building decoy base. Some house not so big or not so small just to make griefer think that this was your actual build and path ends here. You will actually go like 10 thousand blocks away from that. (if you want to make it super safe build a portal here again and travel in nether again few thousands blocks). If you use this your base will stand years and will be almost impossible to find it on purpose.
Do you think that would work or do you know that?

Actually while being in Nether (to dismantle portal) it's good idea to throw pickaxe (and obsidian) into lava, walk a bit in false direction (while holding some random loot like stone pickaxe, a bit of dirt, melon, etc) and kill character via fall damage. This way if anyone is following generated chunks - he would just find remains of "noob that fell from too high".

Pro tip: You can save your diamond pickaxe by storing it in the chest and mining the obsidian with weaker packages for 8 minutes in the nether. With this way you will spend more time but it will save your diamond pickaxe.
Or just xray three diamonds while in the overworld.
or just not be poor and have duped items
I was part of the halo group and helped defend dashie along with some friends that pitched in. I’m glad we could help with the project!
New chunks on nether is easier to track than overworld
Travel using overworld you will get distracted going 50k+ and make trails extremely difficult to track and takes a lot longer to travel
This is not EVE online where people can wait years to kill someone, the base hunters will give up sooner to find a quicker target to locate
Most important tip don’t show your coords at all the second it’s leaked it’s over
There is no need to hide your base if the coords get leaked

So if you just randomly go around and load new chunks all over the place you help everyone who is hiding a base.
The fact that other players made these highways is amazing.
I just have trouble why people would like to join 2b2t. If you don't want to be griefed, then you need to go really far from civilization. If you go far enough away so that your base is secure, you won't ever see anybody and it will play like a normal single player survival, right? Can someone explain?
There are a few things that make 2b2t fun. For beginners, it can be an extreme challenge to escape spawn for the 1st time, get materials and get a renewable source of food. After that, if you decide to go out far away, it is always possible to get back to spawn via the nether and battle other players. Something people like to do is band up in teams (which requires lots of trust) and search & destroy other players' bases, and those players make their bases in the millions but travel around the server or go closer to spawn to hunt. Also, even if you decide to travel far away and never see anyone again, you still won't be playing completely normal survival because of the extreme TPS drops (which deter some players).
I like that, it's interesting and makes me feel full of adrenaline
When there are no rules anything can happen. Vanilla servers give you things you can actually lose, and thus, care about.
As for single player experience... eh, I wouldnt mind. It is enough for me to just know there are others out there and there is a small chance of an encounter.
All Minecraft worlds are actually just a part of 2b2t, we just never see another player.
I was on 4b4t because it was fun trying to make a base and keep it hidden while also trying to help build cool stuff near spawn.
Then someone destroyed the village I was making with some other people and I quit the server.

Don't forget to build a decoy portal at the end of the newchunks
And to go through it and place a chest (with some seeds or something), crafting table, furnace, and bed. It'll get most people to stop looking.

Idea: maybe it can be possible to build a ruin of a base maybe 10000m away from your actual base, to make people think that that base was left for good and that the trail is just a dead end
2 ideas:
1. Make a base inside a lava cast so that it is ignored despite the lack of space
2. Make your base look already griefed when you build it

Would hopping in and out of the nether help reduce the chances of being found with newchunks?
Assuming you fill in all tunnels, destroy all portals, and make fake trails both in and out of the nether.
For example, follow the strategy he outlined in the video, then destroy the overworld portal and travel a good distance in the overworld, make a portal and a trail away from it. Go back in the nether, travel more, make portal and trail, place bed in overworld, then destroy the second overworld portal, die, and destroy both nether portals.
Overcomplicated, sure, but would it work?
2:27 wouldn't advise this strategy these days. One of the best and most popular ways to find bases is to fly parallel to the highway looking for nether chunk trails. The chances of your chunk trail being picked up is reasonably high as it only needs to be crossed in one place.
Instead, portal in old chunks *on the highway*, destroy both portals and travel like 20k overworld directly away from the highway to detach your chunk trail before returning to the nether. Nobody in their right mind uses OW highways beyond like 100k.
Everything else is up-to-date. At least try to get on the nether roof though; if you fail you'll only die and if you succeed you could save yourself hours and make the journey totally AFK.
Imagine sorting by new and actually reading this.

Here is an additional step: create a separate account to grief nether highway closest to your base by chaotically placing obsidian, so it is impossible to afk travel in a straight line and it is also take a while to remove. And if you have millions of obsidian you can use a bot to just fill the whole highway with obsidian.
I just love how much you try to make your base fucking invincible.

There is one potential security flaw that a smart hacker could easily overcome; in the nether, when you walk a few extra hundred blocks or whatever to load the chunks and throw off someone who is looking for that trail, if you walk in a line, could be straight or curvilinear, the hacker need only start at the end of the loaded chunks and follow that path backwards *in the overworld*, until he or she runs into your base. Following a curviliniear line might prove more difficult but certainly not impossible. So if you want to go the extra mile you should load a circle or other shape of chunks, which would massively increase a manual search time for your base and hopefully dissuade your would be griefer. Hopefully someone finds this comment useful lol.

Orthrus Reporting for duty:P
Advanced method:
When you are at the fake path in the nether, build a portal, then build a house in the oberworld, make a couple stacks of netherack and cobble in chests and so on. Make it seems like your base is there
Lg
I'd say a trick could be travelling in and out the nether in 2 chunk render distance [could leave signs of someone dying "creeper hole, lava..."] just to leave small loaded chunks dead ends
And another trick could be travelling with insanely large render distance [16 chunks] and spread it out like many paths
Ima just build my base somewhere under the ocean c:
New chunks bruh
I recognize that netherack that existed 7 years ago but got destroyed and is now an air block that had obsidian placed in it. See you soon
Tip: if you don't want to lose your pick, because you just have 1, or because it's your best one, *don't bring it with you!* Instead, just bring 4 netherrack (to fill up the small hole in the floor where the bottom 4 blocks of the nether portal were, if you made it in the ground), and then just break the obsidian with your hand! It takes up 250 seconds per block.
So with corners it's 14X250=3.500 seconds ≈ 58 minutes
Or if you made the nether portal without the corners, it's 10X250=2.500 seconds ≈ 42 minutes.
It takes some time, but you'll get there.
But I recommend taking atleast a stone pick, which takes up: 62,5 seconds per block. So:
With corners: 875 seconds ≈ 14,5 minutes
Without corners: 625 seconds ≈ 10,4 minutes.
Hope this helped you out :)

My base is still going, pig spawned, tree farm, crop farm, enchanting table and more. Portal is litarly on a highway. I just always have a display build going for greifers to destroy to keep the farm compound safe. Built a bunch of beds for the community. I run it as a a highway stop, give free shit in labeled chest for passers by. Worked so far but I know my time is limited. Its less than 50K from spawn.
Never played 2b2t. Might check it out
I recognize that I recognize, see you soon.
i just make long highways and cover them up for hundreds of blocks when they are close to main highways. Cover them up enough so even if you dig in and freecam you won't be able to tell there is a tunnel there. I always scout all the land nearby to extend the new chunks. Everything is far enough away from main areas that esp, search, new chunks, tracers, and freecam won't be able to just easily detect it.
Okay question, don't know much about 2b2t, but how does everyone travel back and forth, doesn't it like take days just to get to spawn or smth?
