Deep Space Nine: the only time Linkara will pass up the chance to say "Shut up, Dax."
...unless Lt. Dax DOES say something stupid!
Daniel Brant
DS9 is he only series I have seen where the name Dax actually has a lot of respect to it.
@@anirudhviswanathan3986 Unless you're what I call "Odax" (Odo with Curzon) He's the only Dax i have no problem saying Shut up to.
"Dude, you were playing chess, he was playing poker. You're not even on the same level."
I love it when innocuous lines like that are retroactively made awesome.
The funny thing is Nog did get shown as Captain before Harry Kim; however it was in an alternate timeline. Nog did outrank Harry Kim at the end of Deep Space Nine, getting promoted to Lieutenant (being in the middle of the Dominion War helped)
I can see Linkara doing a DS9 retrospective. History of DS9 as it were
i'd love to see that
I want to see that
SFDebris
Or at least a star trek retrospective.
Probably not as he would run into much the issues he used to run into with Power Rangers with all the clips he would use
DS9 is my favorite Trek also. Still holding my breath for a Blu-Ray release. Or at least an HD remaster.
I remember Benjamin's flagship.....aka The USS Ben Sisko's Mothafuckin' Pimp Hand!

"Michael Bay's Star Trek movie is looking great, guys!"
Lewis, don't give him any ideas....
I second this statement!
For the love of GOD don't!
Wait what??
yep. That how he got him to do Transformers III
Chris Wuebbolt Eh, Abrams' movies were already pretty close to Michael Bay movies.
Agreed. DS9 is the best Star Trek series.
See SFdebris for additional details on the awesomeness of DS9
Having watched all the shows...
DS9 is my favourite as well
Though I know a few who prefer the TNG more.
Personally, I think a lot of the reasons for DS9 being great are also what made Babylon 5 great.
Goliath100
Yeah, I can see that being true. I feel DS9 had some really great episodes as well, but I can see TNGs good ones being more memorable
Well, saying which one is better between DS9 and TNG from season 3 to 7 is not so easy, because they have pretty different approaches, but still I'd say TOS, TNG and DS9 are where you can find the good Star Trek (and to be fair, even some of the Animated Series episodes aren't bad at all, see Yesteryear or One of our Planets is Missing).
16:02 Between that guy saying he's "too old" to be dealing this, and calling them "MY artifacts", I'm half expecting he's not really human but a thousand year old disguised alien being who actually DOES own the artifacts.
I mean...... I read about 5 issues of the series, and you're **kind of** right.
Got into DS9 during lockdown and can definitely understand the high praise the series gets, especially with episodes like "Far Beyond the Stars" which in my opinion is not only the best of the series but one of the best episodes in franchise history and sadly just as relevant a episode as ever.
I liked how the series deconstructs the whole Utopia of the federation and shows off more of its problems and that it is not all that great in it.
8:02 Well, Harry DID finally make Captain in Star Trek Online... But then again we saw Captain (or was it Admiral? I forget) Nog in "The Visitor".
Fun fact, the Captain of the Armstrong was drawn to look like then "Entertainment Tonight" co-host John Tesh, who was a big fan of Star Trek
The thing I realized about Harry Kim and why he's never promoted, is that he was brought on as a redshirt, just they realized they needed every crew member they could find, so they couldn't intentionally send people on suicide missions.
12:55 Garashir is the most canon not canon thing ever, Robinson shipped it the hardest
all these star trek comics really makes me want to see a comic crossover between Star trek & Mass effect.
you know I was thinking the same thing since Mass Effect is basically the perfect Star Trek Game
.....you know it just occurs to me how many similarities there are between the defiant and the normandy (the first on at least). Both prototype warships qith stealth capabilities, both having main guns that point forward and both relying on speed.
Gotta say that the opening sequence for the 50th Anniversary is downright glorious and Awesome to behold.
Did anyone else look at the Captain of the Armstrong and ask, "Is that John Tesh?"
That was the intent; the artists drew him to bear John Tesh's likeness since he's a big fan of Star Trek.
I found the hamburger bun joke a lot funnier than I probably should have.
“You were playing chess, he was playing poker”
Please tell me this episode was in the Sleepwalker arc.
Yes, I believe it is.
@@davidspring4003I love stealth foreshadowing
6:26 The only thing good about the Civil War comic, replacing the twin clones of Hitler running gag with the clone of Thor haha
...so on Christmas, do Nog's parents actually say "We love you Noggy?"
You could argue the characters do go on a trek, it's just their journeys are more personal and intimate ones rather than the traditional voyage through the stars.
Linkara, I'm disappointed. A mold episode, and no reference to the Asthma Monster? For shame!
Please, he made a reference to the Cowboy Bebop episode, "Toys in the Attic". That's a hundred times better. Don't leave things in the fridge...
You think you're a nerd? Linkara has all the star dates of Star Trek memorized! You can only try and get on his level xD
"I don't have time to bandy words with you, Sisko! That's why *I* called *you*--a schedule too full to allow conversation. Good day, sir!"
Really, no Kardashian jokes? I don't know whether I'm disappointed or if I respect that.
guilmon182 linkara isn't evil.
There’s actually a documentary on DS9 out there made by the show’s writers.
I hear it’s great!
Love the gushing over ds9
The visitor episode can make me weep like a baby.
I have a personal theory about what secret ingredient made DS9 so great - Babylon 5. Not because DS9 was a ripoff of B5 (though it was), but because having two station-based sci-fi series running at the same time pushed each series to excel. B5 forced DS9 to up their character and writing game, and DS9 pushed B5 to push their production values. And we the audience got two amazing TV series out of it!
I love how Linkara mentions chess and poker since he says something similar at the end if the Sleepwalker arc
I really hope that even after this year is over, we keep the intro for whenever Linkara reviews a star trek comic in the future
the fact that Sisko can punch what is essentialy a reality bending god so hard he decides to NEVER return to mess with him is more than enough to consider Sisko the best captain
also Linkara's patreon are in a competition to see who can get him more out of his expertise, don't they? XD
"Reality is, you are a nigh-omnipotent being-I AM A MAN!"
9:33 love the cowboy bebop toys in the attic reference
Watching this reminded me, I actually have a set of DS9 comics from Malibu (and I'm not a comic collector). Looking at them though, they're not part of the main series, since they're numbered for the mini-series they're a part of, "Hearts and Minds."
12:02-12:05 I haven’t seen DS9 yet, but that was badass
Were you serious about the Kardashians? They live on for that long?
Considering Vulcans can live for centuries, it wouldn't really be that big of a surprise.
Vulcans only live for about 200 years.
Still technically centuries, just two of them.
I forgot John Tesh was in Star Trek.
13:28
John Tesh!
As a loyal fan for over a year now I just want to say never stop never ever stop if that involves nonexistent magic use it
I honestly don't know which Star Trek series is my favorite, but I do love Deep Space 9.
I have (or had?) the first 2 nitpickers guides. Loved em.
I guess mold is better than a deadly bee weapon
I heard it's hip to...you know where I'm going.
Tell that to Mechkara
I remember when they were selling this comic on one of the QVC Star Trek specials. They were really playing up the fact that Captain Johnson is John Tesh of Entertainment Tonight fame, as well as TNG's "The Icarus Factor". Like that's such a big deal.
I applaud the use of a Star Wars style font for the thumbnail
Since we're being nerds about Stardates, something I only just realized.
Jake - Captain's Log, Stardate 46257.9
Sisko - Station Log, Stardate 46257.8
Whatever the decimal in the Stardate means, Sisko's log takes place BEFORE Jake's scene. I guess space really is warped and time super bendable.
the might sound Armstrong sounds like it's been around for generations.
Hooray! A Mike Barr comic!
That Cowboy Bebop reference. Somehow I missed it the first time I saw this.
Linkara, I am Very happy to see how long your show has been going and I look forward to more. And I am curious if Spider-Carnage will ever be talked about in the Clone Saga reviews?
am I the only one who thinks the DS9 intro would make a GREAT documentary intro?
The patrons are dedicated to making you review every form of media
just wanted to say aluminum is a metal that can react with certain types of elements and acids and bases. Glass is inert with them because of the bonds are much stronger and do not dissolve or react like a metal would. Also it has to be made of specific materials because not all glass is the same. Take green or brown glass for example they both have chemicals inside of the bonds that could be reactive to a solution causing endothermic or exothermic reactions or inadvertently creating an entirely different solution when poured into or mixed in them. Not saying they couldn't have made or used a ceramic vessels, but even then they could still be brittle.
5:12 Our best instruments suggests the universe is quite close to geometrically flat. Accelerating expansion throws a bit of a wrench into that though.
Deep Space 9 is my favorite Star Trek series as well!
I find it kinda funny how Armin Shimerman, the guy who played Quark, later went on to voice Andrew Ryan.
"The planet Bajor has just ended 60 year of occupation by a race called the Kardashian"
Oh my God this is torture!!!
I see what you did there!
"I just know Nog is going to make Captain before Harry Kim does"
*looks at Star Trek Online*
Well can tell you this much.... Nog definitely got to Captain at a younger age :p Also Comicron One looks a lot like the Obelisk Carrier on there... its weird actually.
how much do we have to pay for Linkara to do a Star Trek Retrospective on Deep Space nine?
So, comics, then video games, then manga, then Sentai, now audio dramas? You lead an interesting and full life, Linkara.
two thing's to say about this episode:1. quite possibly the best cowboy bebop reference I have ever seen.2. seeing how aggressive the mold was reminded me of some of the repossessed house's I used to clean out, so aside from the setting this story did not feel like sci-fi to me.
Got a preview for the new Start Trek movie as an ad to this one.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN!!!
@Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall - Captain Johnson is drawn as John Tesh, a real life actor and musician and all around nice guy.
This video proves I was correct to subscribe to your channel. Good work sir
Did anyone else notice that the Captain of the Armstrong was drawn in the image of John Tesh? This is the 2nd time he would be a part of something Star Trek.
you do not mess with the sisko
In Star Trek Online, Nog IS a captain, as is Jordi, and an Andorian captains the Enterprise.
There's a strong chance that if you describe this show to someone without mentioning how dark it gets, they might think it's a sitcom.
Summers...slimed...oh my, I hope it wasn't too much of a "physical challenge" for Quark.
The whole bumpy headed biped thing always bugged me till I heard of the preservers. Now I can buy it or half Klingons and so on. It's a decent in universe explanation for effects limitations.
Heh, nice, Im just finishing up my Marathon of SFdebris' DS9 reviews.
The dead Harry Kim from an alternate timeline would make captain before Harry Kim.
6:23 At least they aren't getting themselves trapped in a holo-arcade game that has the safety protocols turned off.
...I really don't remember that book very well...
Wait it's an aggressive green fungus that attacks space ships? OH MY GOD IT'S THE SPACE ORKS!
anybody else waiting for the new episode
Been rewatching DS9 on Amazon prime and I agree with what you say about it. Just got watching The Siege of Ar-558. Having watching the Dominion War arc and seeing many people die, Insurrection ticks me off even more now. Buy the way what class of ship would you command?
Every time he says "Cardasians", I mis-hear it as "Kardashians".
You know, a lot of people do comparions to B5 with this. I say...why? They are both awesome in thier own ways, and follow the age old path of looking at characters as people rather than just words on a script
Speaking of wich, please do a B5 comic
The two are very similar so comparisons will be unavoidable.
Especially when factoring in the whole conspiracy theory about J Michael Straczynski going to fox with Babylon 5, and them ripping the idea off to create Deep Space 9.
I love both, but I have no hesitation saying Babylon 5 is the better of the two. Though had DS9 not ruined the amazing character of Dukat by the end, then I would have to give it more thought.
They aired at the same timeslot, both of them had to fight for a finite audience and arguably, B5 would have been more successful if it was just in a different time.
I mean, I gotta admit that when he gave his intro talk about DS9 I could not help by scroll down here and see if anyone else was reminded for B5. I guess I can see why people would make the comparison, the synopsis makes them sound super similar.
deep space 9 i still haven't seen
Dangerous space mold is still a better idea than Threshold, Profit and Lace, or Dear Doctor.
Alluminium is very chemically unstable, unsuited for uses such as these.
Glass on the other hand reacts with no chemical substance known.
Glass is non reactive to many chemicals which Aluminium would react with, so keeping chemicals in them would make sense.
I thought freeing bajor was one of the conditions for candidacy to join the federation, not just something they did before petitioning for admittance.
Admittedly it's been more than a decade since I last rewatched ds9.
Wish I could think of a good emissary joke to put in here. Maybe something about there never being a prophet when you need one.
Is Capt Johnson modelled after John Tesh???
Even in non-canon spin off comics, Odo is awesome.
I know that this opinion won't sound weird or controversal to most people outside the fanbase or among casual fans but I still think that the original series and the best seasons of TNG is still the best Star Trek tv shows that the franchise has to offer. I don't love or hate Deep Space Nine but I did like the show overall and I would still recommend the show it you're new to the franchise or if you already watched the other TV shows that came before. I wonder how a Deep Space Nine movie would've looked like it they actually made one.
It's my favorite series too.
question linkara: r u and suede ever going to continue reviewing the pokemon movies. I know since jew Wario passed last year it's probably a no but it was still really good and funny series and I think you 2 should continue it. I miss you play chess with suede.
That's up to Suede because they're HIS reviews and his upload schedule lately is...
Well.... Barely existent?
The decision is entirely up to Suede in all honestly. Between his personal life being pretty much all consuming and the fact that Suede's heart isn't truly into Pokemon reviews since Jew Wario passed away; I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Ciaran O'Donnell
Already said that with less words. -.-
Things have changed slightly though, he's going over every episode of season 1 now.
actually there is a good reason for using glass beakers, its unreactive, not many things react with it.
To be fair to that episode, Worf was personally opposed to going on vacation, the show itself wasn’t calling it bad
Awww...
Wanted More~
Linkara! star trek online is on PS4 now! it's free and you can play it!
Not a comic book fan, but I love your show, anyway
deep space nine getting overrun by mutated discovery spores lol
That monster!
How could you punch the great and powerful John De Lancie?!
he was not discord at that moment
Garak wearing stripes and polka dots? Hell yeah, he's allowed to be goofy! Everybody's allowed to be goofy! Why aren't there more Cardassians wearing that?
You don't mess with the Sisko.
6:07
Linkara, STOP GIVING PARAMOUNT EXECS SOME IDEAS!!!
hey trekkies, non trekkie here. Since you guys wrote the book on nerdy organization and archival, do you have an exact number of how many times your fandom have made a kardashian reference with the cardassians?
Probably millions from the moment they inexplicably become popular
Sisko wants offensive options?
Well, he could always go up to the mould and turn the air blue to insult it.
It seems to work with Theresa May....
