Lindsey thanks so much for walking us through this painting. I just recently started painting again. I lost all desire to create after my Nana passed away two years ago. This is the first painting I have been able to do that didn't end in tears. I appreciate you so much!
Lindsay, this is great! I think it’s one of your most instructional watercolor (beginners) tutorial. I really appreciate how you explained and showed the different amounts of water for different areas of your painting. As always, there’s just something magical about how amorphous shapes turn into a representation of a true scene. Thank you. Can’t wait to try this and practice some techniques.
You are amazing Lindsay, love this pic! When I do go to paint this pic I will have a better understanding of water control, this is something I needed help with. Thanks
I picked up that WN palette half price about when you did this video. Absolute bargain, great colours except the viridian which really doesn’t like to rewet. It’s now 3 times what I paid. Happy painter. Love the video wish I’d seen it when I was setting out, really great explanation and demo of water control. 👍🚿💦
Awesome deal! Pre wet the viridian and you can even use a stiff brush like the cheap stiff plastic bristles ones with metal handles they sell for "crap" jobs at the hardware store to scrub the paint and get it reconstituted as not to harm your nice watercolor brushes.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thanks Lindsay. I’ll try and find something like that. I have a strip of magic eraser in the middle gap I moisten before and when I use a hard palette, but that viridian is on its own.🤔
That blue in the water made all the difference. Lovely painting. Really looking forward to taking your landscape class, I know it will expand my knowledge and improve my technique. Your classes are always so informative.
Lindsay, thank you so much for showing how much water you use. I've been having this problem, of how much water to use. I'm going to push forward with watercolor. I appreciate you.
Your painting turned out great! Showing us the the right amount of water to use is really helpful! This is a wonderful video! Thank you ever so much. Happy Mother’s Day Lindsay!
Thanks Lindsay. It was the hardest thing to learn to blot. Maybe because I don't have much room. I hold the paper towel in my hand and have a microfiber cloth on my leg. Unless I'm standing. Which helps me to be more relaxed and less tight through the arm and hand. Thanks again for the lesson. Love them. 👍😁💙💙
Thank you 🙏 SO much Lindsay! I’m a bit freaked that RUclips suggests a 2 yr old video of exactly what I need to see. It’s not like I went looking for this 😳 but I’m so glad I found it. Beautiful painting & so many techniques for beginners like me to freak out over! Thank you again!!
This was WONDERFUL. I have so much trouble with water and even taking "live" lessons this is topic never seems to be addressed. Since this seems to resonate with so many people, perhaps you can add some water control elements to your future tutorials. Your demonstration of the different brushes was fabulous also. Wow. I'm going back to watch the video again!! Thank you.
I am still new to watercolour and I am trying to get the hang of the wet into wet technique. Not sure if I don't have enough/too much paint on my brush, paper not wet enough as it hasn't quite worked out as I would like. More practice needed I think.
This is awesome!! Knowing all the specifics about how to tell the absorbency of each brush, when to scrape off excess water, when to put it on your paper, all that, is exactly what _I_need, at least!! Thanks so much!! Your landscape is gorgeous!!
Just gorgeous, Lindsay! I love this one. Water control has been on my mind lately, so it's funny others are thinking that, too. Basically, whenever I try to put down a good bit of paint onto wet paper, it's never enough; it never flows like when you are showing it. No matter what paper, cotton or pulp and no matter what brush, synthetic, Mimik and sable. I guess I just need lots more practice. And oh, my, but I almost choked when you wasted all that paint in the beginning, and almost choked again when you said it was Winsor & Newton! Lol
O, how I wish this video was available when I was first learning water control! No, the instruction is not too simple - it's perfect. Since my trees do not grow money, any instruction that wonderful artist like yourself offer to the rest of us ...well, it means THE WORLD to me! Thank you!
OMG I followed you closely and I pretty much got the sky and the trees , pleased with how well I did, I just can't get the rocks, still working on it. TY for your tutorial, I've tried so many videos but I seem to learn from your tutorials the best 💯🎨
Easy demonstration. Do like that, with that. You can take this to get that. Rocks and trees. Baaaaamm! Bob Ross in Watercolor.🥰 Nice work of yours and thanks for that Explanations of brushes. Did not know with one can hold the most water and vice versa...🎨 recently got the brush set from zen art, try them out today.🤗
I loved this tutorial too. It is so appearent you are a very experienced painter with lots of tricks up your sleeve. I definitely learned a lot. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. 😊🌞👍
I love this painting! I thought the water/paint ratio and how you load the brush was very interesting! I am constantly amazed that you can narrate and paint at the same time, that is a very real skill!
I clicked on your link to Jackson's. This was $56.67 free shipping to Michigan! I can't wait to try it. I just wish they had included colors other than black and white. I am surprised black and white are in a professional set.
Thanks for this! I have trouble with water control. Either too much or not enough. And it seems like my paper absorbs the water rapidly. Right now all I have is Masters Touch 140#. I ordered some Arches and it should be here soon. Anxious to try it. Just watching you paint is inspiring. I can tell that you just love to paint with watercolors. Thank you for sharing.
Great video with excellent suggestions. The way you explained and demonstrated the brushes and the idea of using a spray bottle were very helpful. The mountains seemed a little unfinished to me. Would you normally add more color? So much white in the mountains looked like snow, but there was no snow anywhere else. Just asking 😁
I probably would have added more if I realized how little would show however we just got snow in the mountains one Wednesday here in mail so it is plausable lol;)
Just found your tutorial, so helpful! Your painting is Awesome! Still not sure about how much water, mine seems to dry so quick when doing wet on wet? Any idea's? Thank you!
I tend to wash these rags with my blue jeans...those are dark enough that if a tiny bit of paint gets in them you wouldn't notice...but so far nothing. Also lots of water in washer, highest setting
Thank you for the lesson!! And you make everything seem so easy 😊 I painted the fuschia flower from your tutorial and I had trouble with water control but that’s because I’m inexperienced Is there a time to use standing water when painting?? Like enough water to wet paper for a background? Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much Lindsay, this video is definitely going in my keep folder. I for one sincerely appreciate videos like these, since I know I'll never get to take any of your classes. It's not like I wouldn't want to, just haven't got the funds for alot of things these days. I am definitely grateful for all that you do for us. Thanks a bunch. Take care and God bless. Oh, and I need to update my address to you. Becky B from Arkansas

Thanks Lindsay. Water control is one of my biggest challenges.

Thank you! I got a ton of tips that I can try! Great comments that made a lot of sense to me.
Oh my word!!!!! This video was Super, Super, Super helpful!! Thank you Lindsey!
I never have success trying to use the liner brush. You make it look so easy. Thanks for this great tutorial.
I watched this for water control but it was so helpful in many ways. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
I really appreciate the explanation when it’s a watercolor or painting tutorial

The brushes are called acid brushes and are probably in the plumbing section of the store.

Love it, gorgeous landscape Lindsay. Thank you for sharing.
Great tutorial thank you for sharing it came out beautiful.
I think my problem is to much water. Even with Arches paper and top of the line paints I get funky lines etc.

Menta by Royal brush
Thank you ... great video
Just found your tutorial, so helpful! Your painting is Awesome! Still not sure about how much water, mine seems to dry so quick when doing wet on wet? Any idea's? Thank you!
Wet the back of the paper first (lay it on a plastic board or other non porous surface) then paint as usual.
Who knew an old plastic card could be so useful?
Can I ask what paper this is? The way it’s held without buckling is nice.
I think this is Fluid brand
bless you... im fighting my water instead of the other way around, lol. Getting better at it but it can still use hh. Finetuning 😂
This was very helpful, thank you....
Fabulous!
I tend to wash these rags with my blue jeans...those are dark enough that if a tiny bit of paint gets in them you wouldn't notice...but so far nothing. Also lots of water in washer, highest setting

Is there a time to use standing water when painting?? Like enough water to wet paper for a background? Thank you so much!!
Sometimes you wet the entire background. You usually want to avoid it sitting in puddles on your paper tho.
Okay thanks!! Now I’m gonna try your hydrangea tutorial
How do you prevent the card from tearing paper
It shouldn't tear it if you have a good quality paper but if it does use less pressure.
This was so good and informative. Would you sell this Lindsay?
Yes, $40 shipped within the USA, email me if interested at artstudiosofbangor@yahoo.com and I can send a PayPal invoice

what colors do you have on this particular palette?
It is the standard w&n 24 tin, link in description and you can look it up:) am not home now so I can't check. List of colors used in description:)
I also have a review on this set on my channel for more info:)
I’m getting serious Bob Ross vibes 😄
I know. I was thinking that too.
It always looks kinda ugly (or more like nothing) until boom, it looks amazing.

If you use too much water will it dilute your pan color? Newbie here 😂
Your camera angle don't let us see the brush hit the paper
👍💕👍
The videos seem a little dark lately past couple months not sure if she has noticed
nobody else has mentioned that.
Hi Lindsey, I just found this you tube channel and thought of you. You should check it out, it's so Awesome!
