I was always a fan of Stefan and I grew up watching the Tag-Porsche engines dominating F1. With Lauda and Prost at the wheel of these McClarens, these beasts were unbeatable. Prost in particular was the original magician. To hear Stefan compare Alain so favourably to Senna is music to my ears.
The intersection of car, driver, engine, and painting is so good. The cherry on top is that the final result still has an appropriate engine note with an urgent turbo six. Fantastic car!!
Hi Magnus. Great video. I have the blocks of one of those TAGs as my coffee table (with the magnesium sump and all). As an engineer with 18ish years of experience I can say that in my opinion that engine does not really make a great difference for several reasons: 1) when I've measured it, the block height and length is rather inefficient for a 1.5L V6, it's just not that compact 2) the centre of gravity is nothing to write home about 3) in F1 it produced most of its power when you could run 3x atmospheric pressure, so for that you have a large laggy turbo 4) a 'regular' 3.0 with two small turbos would be more tractable and reliable. So yes it's a cool idea and I love looking at it under my cup of tea/coffee but I think it's one of those legendary things that are great to stir the imagination but not so amazing in terms of science benefits. Now if somebody had put a Cosworth TJ V10 in the back of an Audi R8 or a McLaren 12C then yes, that would get my heart skipping more than a beat ! Keep up the great work, it's very nice to hear your commentary and see the roads/locations. 🙂
Hey Magnus we ran into you at the Clear Creek station (where Angeles Crest meets Angeles Forest) when you were filming this. Me and my buddy were on a red and black CBR 600 and an all black Gixxer 1000 You let us take pictures. I had no idea how special the car is. ButI do know you guys were bringing it! Cheers
Epic collaboration of car, art, artist and engine. Magnus, I was looking for THIS car to elicit a smile on your face in the video but alas you kept it inside.
This is your best video, period! A Beautiful, TAG Turbo is the craziest but ironically appropriate thing to swap into a 930, Wow. I started watching F1 in 1983 because Porsche built this engine. I have watched every F1 race since then. I totally agree with Stefan, Prost was the best.
Whoever buys this car will be the dude who says, "I'll take it," without even asking the price. ...because it's out of reach for 99.9% of us. That being said, sweet project!
i remember seeing this video before "but" couldn't stop watching again - so much involved the car - the paint - the engine - and Sir Stefan Johansson , master piece , killed it
This has to be the single coolest car on the planet. I’ve seen a couple of TAG turbos at Goodwood and they have an aura around them, like you can feel the history when you look at that plaque in the rear. It’s unbelievable that the stars aligned to make this one even more special. Lanzante did a great thing with these cars.
What a glorious fire spitting piece of 80's legend! They did that car exactly the way that they should've. In every way, no notes & all win. My favorite era of Porsche as well. My absolute favorite is the RUF 935 without a doubt, and my other is of course the 914+6. Two uniquely Porsche (& RUF, for the 935) cars. Of course the 917's & 918's are amazing as well, and the Singer Porsches are so damn classy. The golden age of all true sports cars imo, is from 67'-97'. That 30yr slice of time when countless legends were created. Great video Magnus! I'm warming up to your channel, and don't give praise online easily. Good show Sir, bob on!
I'd go back down to 64 for the start since starting at 67' would leave behind the Ford GT40 Mk1, Mercedes 300SL and probably a few more i can't think of
What a mesmerizing story! The people and their adventure lifes behind all that stunning work, the breath taking enthusiasm resulting into craftsmanship out of this world....the uniquie iconic car like no other one...you made me bananas guys! Again!
Great episode about a car that is remarkable inside and out. I remember seeing Stefan Johansson race when I was a boy, never knew he paints, though. Thanks for bringing this one to us.
I wonder what the last 4 digits of Vin # are for this 1987 930 I would like to see how close it is to mine. Love the Art on it. Well done and really neat idea to drop these vintage F1 motors in a few of these.
❤😂😢😮😅😅😊 that 930 Porsche F1 should be in the magazine called excellence and it’s all about Porsches that Porsche 930 is so damn sweet I like it a lot specially the paint scheme keep up the good work which I always say and I know you do and take care of peace and have a good day and a good week
Yeah this is one of the coolest classics I've ever seen right next to a singer or Gunther Works car but better imagine this power train in a singer it would be pure perfection
Great car and story. Stephan seems like a grounded guy. Would have loved to see him drive it and hear more details about the engine and performance of the car. Wonder on the $$ price?
@@raynermeneses4802 he just doesn't care, plus his whole business is based around marketing, he won't ever sell something half way good, just good enough for people to not complain much, if even that.
This is absolutely awesome! An actual Porsche F1 engine in a road-going classic 930 911 is as rare as it gets. Wow.
Car is on jodi kids channel more in-depth specs ect..
@@sidbobby3233 Thanks
I've seen rarer.

... shame it was driven so gingerly that it held up a JK Wrangler.
This has to be one of the coolest cars in existence. The engine, the driver, the car customized with the driver's art. Just wow!

Very cool analysis, and very overlooked in the comments. Interesting points all around.
Nice video I just wished for 10 seconds at least of just pure engine sounds without music or talkiver.
you had me with the flames..
Stefan is a great guy, just recently met and chatted with him at a carshow here in Sweden. He is a motorsport icon here🇸🇪👏
I really enjoyed this one Magnus.. the car .. the engine.. the artist.. all three experienced second lives!👌💪

Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪 Stefan. Really nice car and love the paint job.
Wow one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. It’s perfect … no words needed

Been waiting for this video for a week or so, since The Smoking Tyre podcast, wow what an amazing car, Rj in Oz
I like the way the burst of colors highlight the flow and taper of the 911’s rear haunches which are, to me, the highlight of the whole design.
That paint job is perfect for that car!!
Stunning episode, no words!!!
Cheers.
Loved this video! Super sly. Killer combination of Porsche, McLaren and S.J. Thanks Magnus, you're not so bad yourself.
OMG this is an absolute DREAM car
This is the best OPP yet 👏
I love all your videos Magnus, but this one tops it for me. Well done Sir.
Nothing but love for these builds! Incredible car! Such a great pairing of history.
Incredibly cool car, project and interview. Great work all round.
Everything about car and story is golden but the moment i saw flames shooting from behind tears came to my eyes 💯
Cool as.... sort of reminds me of the Mick Doohan Aria helmets
wowwww amazing car amazing review. thank a lot Magnus
Fantastic video. Fantastic car. Interesting story. 👍
I was really hoping to see this episode soon. Loved you on the smoking tire another banger of an episode.
Such a beautiful car and the engine sounds like it was built by Porsche for sure! What a joy it mist be!
Love the ‘80s soundtrack. What a piece of work.
Love the paintjob, it is both timeless and screams 1980's.
Love a slope nose over bug eyes though"
Holy GRAIL ! 🎉
Superb car, whenever I hear Magnus talking though I just always think of Smashie and Nicey!
😢 Why did I watch this...I´m so in love with this car right now. The paint design is just spot on for this setup.
AMAZING CAR . A unique master piece !!!!!
Thankyou for making this video
Something nicely 80s about that paint job, bright graphic colours on white, white rims. Fits the rest perfectly. 👍
Pretty fn cool.
Some things can't have a value of what they are worth. Just to see this is very awesome. Thanks.
This is a piece of art, and the fact that he is driving it is amazing.

Amazing vid!
Love that painted Porsche. A bit different to everything else - Well done, Stefan..!
This was a great collaboration to create one of the world's craziest Porsches.... I just wish we got to hear it sing without music or talking over it.
Agreed, just let it rev up properly with good mics pointed at the right parts...
This is the best looking paint I've ever seen
That paint job is insane and a very good concept to . Reminds me of speed , when spaceships in movies goes into ludacrise mode

Love at first sight for me...😍
Cool paint job
I genuinely want to steal this design for a motorcycle now. A BMW RnineT would be a perfect base.
Wow! that is some car!
What a work of art.

Jesus that engine looks gorgeous.
What a machine! ❤ Added to my dream garage 😊
what a monster that engine it barley fits in the engine bay, micron tolerance , love the paint job .,,,must be awesome to drive

Pure Porsche perfection.
