I see a lot of people that would say "there's not enough colours" so here's my idea. Each inkling gets a base colour and backups. If there is another inkling with that colour, then they use a random backup.

I mean what is the problem with characters having the same color? In smash bros it dosint really matter knowing what ink is yours. And if you try to bring up the point that you would confuse the characters due to them being the same color then why can matches between kriby and jigglypuf work just fine? As long as the modle are different enough there should be no problem distinguishing them, especially if they animate, sound and attack differently.
I would LOVE an Octoling that uses all the currently unrepresented weapon classes, specifically I like the idea of an Undercover Brella shield you could shoot from, at the expense of only having one shield direction (regular shield would be Vbrella just held forwards towards the camera and would work as normal)

I really think that smash separating inklings from octolings could also let other people see them differently from each other, rather people seeing octolings as just being slightly different inklings
An idea that I personally like is having Octoling use stronger weapons compared to Inkling, allowed for more kill power compared to their Squid counterparts. Some potential ideas would be using 96 Gal for Neutral Special, Tenta Brella for Side Special, and yeah I really like the idea of using a Dynamo for airials!
I'm imagining a sort of Ganondorf/Falcon or Pyra/Mythra (albeit as separate characters) dynamic. One is more mobile, the other has kill power and is harder to approach and approach with.
Octoling is honestly the safest bet for the next Smash game besides Ring Fit Trainee (Smash has a bias towards successful new EPD IPs & RFA sold like hotcakes) & the obligatory new Pokémon (we know for a fact that they leave a placeholder for one). And considering how big Splatoon has become in recent years, I genuinely can’t see Octoling being an echo unless there’s another unique Splatoon character on the way (Ex: Marina w/ Pearl Drone).
Hear me out: Pearl drone as an assist trophy, giving peach up-b floatiness to players jumping after reaching their maximum amount of jumps and attacking other players with bombs/special weapons
Unless they replace inkling I don’t think that would work because it would cause you to have generic inkling and a specific character It also limits the alt potential and agent 8 looks identical to any normal inkling so it feels pointless
Up special could have also been inkjet since it was more prominently featured in Octo Expansion It probably wouldn’t have the gun, just rise the player into the air like King K Rool’s up special
Octoling I think is one of the likeliest newcomers for the next Smash, and they have enough tools to be unique (maybe only sharing Inkling's gimmick or a variation of it.)
A RUclipsr named Dezethin made a fun concept for Octoling that I would recommend. One thing I will say is that I think the Order weapons should be relegated to one or two of the possible costumes rather than as the default. Or even two characters, one being just an Octoling and the other being Side Order 8 with the DLC being as different as it is compared to standard Splatoon.
I’d love them to make inklings and octolings a lot like how fox and the links work. With each variant working slightly differently. Say the octolings use a dynamo and rolls much slower, they use a octobrush for F-Smash, they’d have charger for a neutral rather than a S-Shot. And so on
A cool idea for a cinematic final smash would be a splashdown just being the the way to activate the it, and then whoever got caught by it could be sent to the final smash animation where the octoling picks up an ultra signal and pearl shows up with the huge killer wail Or maybe they get hit by mr grizz's furmaggedon or something Theres plenty of epic scenes to take inspiration from in splatoon 2 and 3
Octoling is a shoe in basically, and I like the idea here! Mostly fsvoring the ones that would encourage a more cerebral fighting style. I do feel the Order weapons would be dedicated to a specific Side Order skin, though if they did do that, it wouldn't hurt to also toss in the other weapon kit designs with some other alts too! One alt idea I have is that both Inkling and Octoling could have Salmon Run suits as alts, the Inkling getting the Gloopsuit from 2, and Octoloing getting the Slopsuit from 3. Overall a lot of possibilities. But this is such a shoe in addition, so I'm gonna drop my outlandish choice! Salmonid for Smash! Live Deliciously, Fight on Viciously!
My problem with this moveset is it focuses way too hard on uniqueness and representing as many things as possible, and if Octoling becomes a character in smash, they would likely use the base weapons of the new weapon types (like base splat dualies). It's also very unlikely that they'd give special gimmicks for the rolls/dodges, would mess quite a bit with game balance unless the other fighters get stuff like this too
yeah there's cool ideas but definitely could get reigned in a bit. for the dodge rolls for example, something I think would be more appropriate for a Smash game would be normal dodges most of the time, but having splat dualies be the neutral special (and letting you move side-to-side with it active) and if you dodge while doing THAT you get the Dualie dodge and turret mode and everything. and maybe you can activate turret mode instantly by doing neutral B after a normal dodge, as a bonus I would definitely prefer seeing more melee Dualie moves in general if they're gonna be the main weapon. do love the choices for Smash attacks though, decav and s-blast are very cool concepts even if they feel unlikely

I love the ideas you came up with for octoling in smash. Unfortunately they’d definitely just make them an echo of inkling. Probably a slower more powerful version like Mario and Dr Mario (yes I know they aren’t an echo but it is the best comparison)
7:45 It would be pretty cool if Octoling did a dash > pivot > jump they just got super armour though. A bit like Yoshi's double jump armour but more situational
great video i love smash and i think its rly intersting seeing a casual player like yourself make one of these videos. ive thought about this concept quite alot so its great to see someone cover it especially chara. i like most of the ideas youve said especially incorporating zipcaster, i think to really make inkilng and octolings moveset stand out in the next smash game they should use move special references as they are a key element in the splatoon games
Love the concept! One idea I had for their up special is the grinding the rails like how they do in OE! Also, having little buddy somewhere in the moveset I feel like is a must if representing Splatoon 3 with Splatoon 2. Octoling is my most wanted pretty much at this point after Inkling!

For Up Special I would go with a super jump that then has the Pearl Drone glide you downwards at the top of the jump. If you hold down while the drone is gliding, you stop gliding and fall like with Inkling's super jump. I would also go with Inkjet as FS due to its OE significance, but since Triple Splash was on 8's Palette in SO, it makes sense as well. Plus, as a fun fact, chargers and splatlings are the only weapons to never get representation in Smash.
Great idea and I like the umbrella for side b because something like it exist for pit’s down special with 2 shields that block and reflect projectiles but is vulnerable from the top and bottom and have hp. So the brella would work very close to that imo.
For the final Smash, I think it should be a reference to Octo Expansion; Spawning in on the platform in the inner agent 3 fight and using tenta missiles in the background (kinda like bowser’s final smash)
I think another good idea for integrating the dualies' dodge rolls into Smash's, is that if you press shield and a direction while firing you get the dualie roll with turret mode, in order to keep the regular rolls too, so as not to mess with the function of Smash's rolls.Fantastic ideas though, I absolutely love the Dynamo fair, the more spikes the better!
i really like this concept, if they did something like this for a fresh idea for a splatoon character, i would definitely play them, and personally i really love the idea of caster as up, kinda like joker's but more fun
I think this moveset is super cool! One idea I also had was that since Inkling has a lot of frontline weapons (splattershot, slosher, inkbrush, blaster)... Octoling would instead have a focus on BACKLINE weapons and a more zoner-y playstyle Stuff like Heavy Splatling, Wellstring, Splat Charger, Explosher, the works
I've always had the idea of Octoling being an echo fighter to Inkling, and if they were to make Smash Ultimate Deluxe for Switch 2 instead of making a new game entirely (which they probably would make a new game entirely) then I assume Octoling would be an echo fighter there. But anyway, my idea for Octoling was always just Inkling but slower and stronger, as well as taking more ink, which allows Inkling players to hop over to Octoling if they feel like they have mastered Inkling's moveset and thinks having a slightly slower and bulkier character would be fine because they can accommodate for their slowness with kill power. - What I have always wanted, was for Neutral B to be Charger, if holding the button you can slowly walk left and right or aim the Charger up and down. Since that idea would be busted if normal Charger was the one being used, I'm assuming only Squiffer would be fair. - Similarly, I think if Charger wasn't Neutral B (as proposed by the awesome Dualies idea by Chara) then I would really want normal Charger to be Up Smash, where the longer you charge it, the higher it goes and higher damage it does. Very similar to how Simon and Richter use their Up Smash, but perhaps with a sweetspot right at the end of it which rewards aiming or timing. - And then I was thinking for other moves it'd just be more basic things, like Inkbrush to Octobrush, and Super Jump staying the same (as an echo fighter) - But since Dread Wringer has come out since I last thought about an Octoling moveset, I think that'd be an interesting Down Smash instead of normal Slosher, maybe it could be Octoling's only faster option compared to Inkling, hm? - Also Side B would be Dynamo with the same idea that Chara thought for Forward Air but as Side B for a reason, Inkling can jump out of their Side B to gain extra distance while recovering, so I figure that using Side B in the air for Octoling should serve a similar purpose even though Dynamo would be slower. Kinda hard to tell if Side B in the air would be worth it, just depending on how slow the Dynamo flick comes out. Also why does Inkling not recharge ink faster when standing in the ink they placed on the ground with roller, c'mon. Well I know no one's gonna read my essay but if you did thank you very much. This wasn't even near all my ideas but I can't share all that in a youtuber's comment section.
Yeah this is really cool, making a more zoning move set for inkling. I know you said side special would be a kill option, though what if it was more of a combo tool. That way octoling would have the ability to combo well, as inkling up tilt isn’t great. Just a random thought I had. Those making Rivals custom characters, yall got homework for the steam workshop 😂.
things I'd change; make the dualies functional similar to Joker's Gun and occupy the Neutral B slot, make Zipcaster a tether grab that Inkling shares, and make it so S-Blast is both the Up Smash and Up Air, changing modes depending on which you use

They just have to be distinguishable in a free for all match on a giant stage from the inklings. If there is a red ocktoling and an orange inkling on Palutena’s temple it would be a little confusing imo
An idea I think would be cool on the character is letting them use the pearl drone as a recovery option. While used, the drone could act as a sprinkler and paint the stage
An idea I've had is Stringer as up smash. Think like, Snake's. Three shots at once, fired straight up. Two arching a little ways away on each side, middle one not changing horizontal position. Each shot relatively low in damage, overall not very strong unless you're hit by all 3 on their way up, in which case it'd have much more power
I was also thinking sting ray would work well for a final smash. The inkling going off screen and firing a lazer from the forward ground and maybe launch a couple of tenta missiles to finish it off, almost like snakes final smash or zero suit. Booyah Bomb could work like the B bomb explosion in a way if that was picked.
I might be in the minority but I think the ink management mechanic should play little to no role at all. Maybe for like projectiles or have it run out if you're running too much and then you can recharge. Painting to slow down or speed up, I've never felt like it was a fun mechanic to play with or against at least on a casual level. But then again I find most additional fighting systems in Smash to be unnecessary (except for my boy Little Mac LOL).

The Brella should be the octoling’s block. They block from one side but they can’t be stunned if the block breaks. They also shoot before they enter the block, and if they hold it, they shoot off their brella shield.
My idea for octoling before I watch the video. Tilts, and Aerials stay relatively the same, along with the same recovery. Smash attacks: Forward smash would have the octoling pull out a splattling, and it would work like mii gunners/ mega mans forward smash. The longer you charge it, the farther and more damage it does, and it would be that sort of multi-hit smash like mii gunner’s. Keep up smash and down smash the same cuz I’m lazy. Specials: her neutral special would be the dualies. It would function similar to jokers gun. You could hold it down, and perform two dodge rolls. The dodge rolls would be fast and have more I frames than a standard dodge, but would have more endlag. It would also put her into turret mode, increasing the range and power of the shots. For her side special, it would work like the roys side special. It would be a three hit slash combo with the splatana, and if you held it, it would fire the charger projectile and paint the ground. You would also dash forward. Her down special would be similar to toon links. You could pull out a burst bomb, and then throw it any any direction to set up combos. It would paint the ground a little if it hits the floor, and you could only have two out at a time.

I made a post on Twitter a few years back regarding an Octoling move-set for the next Smash due to Inkling not using a lot of their kits in Smash Ultimate. Here we go with the run down! I hope you guys also provide feedback: 1.) Side Smash: Charger, the longer it’s held the more damage it does and the more range it has. You can angle it to shoot slightly up, or down, depending on how you want 2.) Up Smash: Splatling, it’s a multi-hit smash attack. The longer you hold it, the more range it has in the air. It will shoot directly above Inkling and replace blaster being a good kill move. Unlike blaster, it won’t suck players in. 3.) Side Special: The only thing I’d change about this is being able to make the roller do damage in air, it’ll work like in Splatoon 2-3 where you can either fling ink on someone or you can get use it up close and personal for a meteor smash attack. 4.) Neutral Special: Dualies, I was conflicted with this one and even originally had this just be the down smash while being able to roll after pressing a direction… but Slosher is good. This will have the same utility, just replacing Splatershot. 5.) Up Special: Splashdown, it’ll not have nowhere near as big of a hit box that it has in the game (think Pyra's up special). However, it will be a meteor but will be a up special that you can’t recover from, and leave you with a lot of ending lag. Think ZSS/Tink. 6.) Down Special: Suction bomb, this'll be similar to mega-mans bomb where it sticks on you and eventually goes off after some time. 7.) Forward Air: Stringers, sort of work like Isabelle’s and Villager’s forward air, but not nearly as much damage. It could possibly kill at higher percentages though, but doesn’t rapid fire (has good range). 8.) Back air: Blaster, it’s a kill move. However, it’ll only be a great kill move if you hit the sweet spot. Otherwise, you’ll do sour damage. It does also have impact damage, but it won’t have much knock back and will only function as impact damage if the hit is from afar. 9.) Up Air: Nozzlenose, since their current up air is a two hit kick, I decided that the nozzlenose would be a perfect replacement being a two hit shot attack (for those unfamiliar, this weapon only shoots out two shots at a time). 10.) Dash Attack: Splatana, last but not least. It’ll function very much so how it does in Splatoon 3. It’s a great kill move, however… it’ll leave you open with its end lag. Has great start up mobility though. 11.) Neutral Jab: Inkbrush, I forgot to mention that I’m replacing the N-Jab with Inkbrush since it makes 100% more sense since it’s a flurry of hits in Splatoon itself. 12.) Perfect Dodge: Splatbrella, this won’t necessarily be an attack, but when Inkling pulls off a perfect dodge, the splatbrella will show up momentarily. Very similar how when Steve gets a perfect dodge, he uses a shield from Minecraft.
For the FS, I was thinking that the octo would shoot out a shot from a charger (thin but long ranged), and if it hit anyone, it would trigger a cutscene of the opponent being caught in between the Octo Expansion Pearl Killer Wail and NILS statue beam OR the Pearl Drone wail against Overlorder.
for octoling I always thought that they would be a less combo heavy more slower punish playstyle (not an original idea but here are some of my move set ideas cuz why not) they would be slower than inkling but there dash have "ninja squid" and be alot closer to the ground and harder to hit up tilt would be dynamo vertical swing and be an attack similar to Ganons up tilt but with a lot long wind up and more range and coverage bair has them pullout Dualies behind them shooting a blast that's quite powerful, as well as sending them in the other direction (similar to robs) I really think octo brush should be F smash up smash would have them pull out a splat brella from behind them and swing it Infront (this would drag anyone behind or infront too the next hitbox) before pointing it up for a long range shot that would be more dmg than inklings blaster but have a lot less coverage they would then open the brella for a bit that would protect them from some weakish attacks but with quite a bit of endlag final smash should be a cutscene where your opponent is thrown onto the nills statue marina launches hyper bombs and explode while pearl does her killer whale thing idk what do yall think
they have a pretty good one but they are are more of a hit and run character rather than the rushdown combo characters (idk if thats the best way to explain it im not really a competitive level ssbu player)
@@thatbraincellguy4163 Inkling literally only has boo-yah, then flunks to the bottom because their kill moves are laughably bad and unrewarding as possible.
Booyah is their only kill confirm(other than roller but thats roller) they have plenty of combos/strings that lead to high % but they struggle to kill becuase of the knockback at high% sending out range to combo but not far enough to kill the idea I had for octoling is that they would have a lot easier time taking stocks but it would be harder to combo to kill% becuase of there less than optimal movement and moves having more knockback
These are all such great ideas but i think that for the final smash it should be killer wail 5.1, specifically the one used at the end of side order, since the character is based off agent 8
I think it would be cooler for down b to be a counter with stamper instead of the traditional bomb. It would work like a usual counter, except timing will decide how much ink it would use, knockback, and damage. There would be maybe four levels, miss, early/late, decent, and perfect, all denominated by different sounds. Good video tho ❤
I love this idea of not making the Octoling an Echo fighter, but instead a sort of step above Inkling in risk & reward. It's like Mario and Luigi or something, where one is easy to pick up and play and the other plays similarly but requires more skill.
I really really want dash attack to be a wiper or stamper dash slash! I like carbon but I think the dash mechanic is absolutely perfect for a little dash attack
I think an even cooler final smash would be the final color chip blast…killer wait thing. from side order, as a way to keep all the octolings identity.

Character wise alone I hope we get more Splatoon rep in smash, I really hope Nintendo goes through with Octoling, and gives us other characters too, like imagine each of the Idol groups as rotating characters
awesome idea! I hope the next splatoon game won't be like the last 2 installments and be basically a season pass that is then discontinued after a year or 2. imo if you pay the full price for a game you should be able to play it whenever and for how long you want
I would have made the final smash kraken royale because it could be really fun to control and could even give your counterplay idea a go by allowing attacks that hit the kraken while not in a damaging state (e.g. not charging or jumping) deal some knockback which already works well in a game about knockback.
My idea for Octoling would have them use the Blaster as their main weapon, as a slower, mightier counterpart to the Splattershot. Their jab combo would be a shorter three-hit that ends with a shot from the Blaster. The look of the Blaster would also change depending on the skin, becoming the Sanitized Octo Blaster for the Octo Expansion alt(s) and the Order Blaster for the Side Order alt. Other things: -A Splatana would be used for the dash attack and the forward smash -The Tri-Stringer, complete with some lingering explosions, would be used for their up and down smashes and maybe their aerials -Side tilt would have Octobrush -Neutral B would obviously be a Blaster shot, travelling a distance and dealing great damage on direct hits and a bit less on indirect -Side B would have them charge up a Splatling and unload. This charge can be stored, like, say, Samus’ Neutral B -Up B would be Inkjet. When the jet falls off the Octoling and propels them, it would land on the ground and damage anyone it comes into contact with -Down B is Torpedo. Your idea is spot on -Final Smash is Trizooka. Considering how hated that special is in S3, I think it would be funny ngl With all that said, where are the Dualies and Brella? I’m glad you asked, because in my ideal future, this basic Octoling isn’t the ONLY Octoling coming to Smash… MARINA… uh… Ebbs to the Flow? That’s the best tagline I got. -She wields a Splat Brella as her main weapon, swinging it around closed for jabs and stuff -Her Forward Smash would have her either stab or fire a Splat Charger forward, since I had to represent it somehow -She fires the Brella for her Neutral B, and it quickly opens up its shield where it acts as a reflector -For her Side B, she does an explosive Dodge Roll (with the Dodge Roll Attack chip) and fires away with the Dualies in turret mode -For her Up B, she launches herself out of a cannon alongside some Super Chumps that drop on the ground and explode like Hyperbombs -Her Down B would have her charge up a Fizzy Bomb and throw it for lingering damage -For her Final Smash, she would call Pearl to unleash the Princess Cannon on their opponents! (Inkling’s Final Smash would probably have to be changed to Booyah Bomb, however…) -Pearl would also show up in her taunts and victory screen. Marina would also have a unique victory theme, being the snippet of We’re So Back that plays when you beat a boss in Side Order -Marina would have a wide selection of outfits, like her default S2 look, her Octo Expansion outfit, her World Tour outfit from 3, and her Final Fest and Grand Festival outfits. These alts would also apply to Pearl.
I feel like an octoling side order alt that made every weapon the order version would work better then just having a normal octoling using them. They didn't give the hero shot to the agent 3 alt though so idk if that's something they'd do If they ended up just being an echo fighter of inkling instead of an original one, basing them off agent 8 more and giving them the mc princess cannon over killer wail would be cool
Because a few people are mentioning them, the way I always thought about Ink Colours is... Rework them. Make them match either the player number colour, be completely random, or let players freely switch through them like how they can switch through the Pokemon of Pokemon Trainer. Don't make them tied to each alt. Also, make them always match your Team Colour in a Team Match. It'd be a cool nod to Splatoon, but also could allow for some minor synergy to using Multiple Inklings or Octolings on one team. As for which version of each weapon appears... I think make them distinct between alts. Have a default Octolings which just uses default weapons, but two Order Agent 8 skins that uses Order Variants of weapons (they'd still work like the specific weapons which the order weapons aren't based on). Maybe have two versions of Agent 8 from Octo Expansion that uses the designs used by Sanitised Octolings. Then maybe a couple more generic Octolings of either gender, or maybe a Sanitised Octoling and a Fuzzy Octoling? You'd probably want one of those to be Male which never appears in-game, but it could still be cool.
they did miss a major opportunity not allowing teamed inkling to have the same colors. the "too little colors" argument can also be dethroned by looking at how many story and dlc mode/ splatfest/ salmon run colors they have. Also, a salmon run themed outfit should totally be added to the inklings costumes next smash
I prefer if the Splatoon characters are actual characters like agent 3 or like eight. That way the final smash would be like one them calling the idols to help finish the enemy off like in Octo expansion.
They better come to terms with it because Splatoon is probably getting a second unique character consider considering how big the series is now (more so in Japan, but still). They’re as inevitable as Ring Fit Trainee & a new Pokémon.
I think they wouldn't change super jump as up-b to be honest, but may make it diagonal, move slower/less further, and/or more damage focused with a hitbox during the attack
Nice idea. And if Nintendo does put them in a hypothetical smash 6 I really hope they aren’t just reduced to being a clone. Honestly it’s sad to see that happen to any character on the roster. And I hope they get a final smash that isn’t a boring cut scene. I like that dynamo spike && final smash I’d give them would be everyone’s favorite, the stingray 😂
If octoling is a character, i imagined there final smash to be the same as inklings with the killer wail. But instead its the Pearl Killer Wail from both DLCs.

In smash bros it dosint really matter knowing what ink is yours.
And if you try to bring up the point that you would confuse the characters due to them being the same color then why can matches between kriby and jigglypuf work just fine?
As long as the modle are different enough there should be no problem distinguishing them, especially if they animate, sound and attack differently.
I would LOVE an Octoling that uses all the currently unrepresented weapon classes, specifically I like the idea of an Undercover Brella shield you could shoot from, at the expense of only having one shield direction (regular shield would be Vbrella just held forwards towards the camera and would work as normal)
thank you for not settling on making them an echo!! splatoon is way too big for octoling to be just another inkling, and this moveset is a really good example!
I really think that smash separating inklings from octolings could also let other people see them differently from each other, rather people seeing octolings as just being slightly different inklings
An idea that I personally like is having Octoling use stronger weapons compared to Inkling, allowed for more kill power compared to their Squid counterparts. Some potential ideas would be using 96 Gal for Neutral Special, Tenta Brella for Side Special, and yeah I really like the idea of using a Dynamo for airials!
I'm imagining a sort of Ganondorf/Falcon or Pyra/Mythra (albeit as separate characters) dynamic. One is more mobile, the other has kill power and is harder to approach and approach with.

Octoling is honestly the safest bet for the next Smash game besides Ring Fit Trainee (Smash has a bias towards successful new EPD IPs & RFA sold like hotcakes) & the obligatory new Pokémon (we know for a fact that they leave a placeholder for one). And considering how big Splatoon has become in recent years, I genuinely can’t see Octoling being an echo unless there’s another unique Splatoon character on the way (Ex: Marina w/ Pearl Drone).
Would Marina and Pearl just be Rosalina and Luma with some Ink mechanics from Inkling?

Octoling I think is one of the likeliest newcomers for the next Smash, and they have enough tools to be unique (maybe only sharing Inkling's gimmick or a variation of it.)
A RUclipsr named Dezethin made a fun concept for Octoling that I would recommend.
One thing I will say is that I think the Order weapons should be relegated to one or two of the possible costumes rather than as the default.
Or even two characters, one being just an Octoling and the other being Side Order 8 with the DLC being as different as it is compared to standard Splatoon.

I’d love them to make inklings and octolings a lot like how fox and the links work. With each variant working slightly differently.
Say the octolings use a dynamo and rolls much slower, they use a octobrush for F-Smash, they’d have charger for a neutral rather than a S-Shot. And so on
A cool idea for a cinematic final smash would be a splashdown just being the the way to activate the it, and then whoever got caught by it could be sent to the final smash animation where the octoling picks up an ultra signal and pearl shows up with the huge killer wail

Octoling is a shoe in basically, and I like the idea here! Mostly fsvoring the ones that would encourage a more cerebral fighting style.
I do feel the Order weapons would be dedicated to a specific Side Order skin, though if they did do that, it wouldn't hurt to also toss in the other weapon kit designs with some other alts too!
One alt idea I have is that both Inkling and Octoling could have Salmon Run suits as alts, the Inkling getting the Gloopsuit from 2, and Octoloing getting the Slopsuit from 3. Overall a lot of possibilities.
But this is such a shoe in addition, so I'm gonna drop my outlandish choice! Salmonid for Smash! Live Deliciously, Fight on Viciously!
My problem with this moveset is it focuses way too hard on uniqueness and representing as many things as possible, and if Octoling becomes a character in smash, they would likely use the base weapons of the new weapon types (like base splat dualies). It's also very unlikely that they'd give special gimmicks for the rolls/dodges, would mess quite a bit with game balance unless the other fighters get stuff like this too
yeah there's cool ideas but definitely could get reigned in a bit. for the dodge rolls for example, something I think would be more appropriate for a Smash game would be normal dodges most of the time, but having splat dualies be the neutral special (and letting you move side-to-side with it active) and if you dodge while doing THAT you get the Dualie dodge and turret mode and everything. and maybe you can activate turret mode instantly by doing neutral B after a normal dodge, as a bonus
I would definitely prefer seeing more melee Dualie moves in general if they're gonna be the main weapon. do love the choices for Smash attacks though, decav and s-blast are very cool concepts even if they feel unlikely

I definitely want octolings in Mario Kart. As a massive Splatoon fan, I always play as an inkling in Mario Kart, but I'd rather play an octoling.

I love the ideas you came up with for octoling in smash. Unfortunately they’d definitely just make them an echo of inkling. Probably a slower more powerful version like Mario and Dr Mario (yes I know they aren’t an echo but it is the best comparison)

great video i love smash and i think its rly intersting seeing a casual player like yourself make one of these videos. ive thought about this concept quite alot so its great to see someone cover it especially chara. i like most of the ideas youve said especially incorporating zipcaster, i think to really make inkilng and octolings moveset stand out in the next smash game they should use move special references as they are a key element in the splatoon games
Love the concept! One idea I had for their up special is the grinding the rails like how they do in OE! Also, having little buddy somewhere in the moveset I feel like is a must if representing Splatoon 3 with Splatoon 2. Octoling is my most wanted pretty much at this point after Inkling!

I would play smash WAY more if they added octoling stuff
For Up Special I would go with a super jump that then has the Pearl Drone glide you downwards at the top of the jump. If you hold down while the drone is gliding, you stop gliding and fall like with Inkling's super jump. I would also go with Inkjet as FS due to its OE significance, but since Triple Splash was on 8's Palette in SO, it makes sense as well. Plus, as a fun fact, chargers and splatlings are the only weapons to never get representation in Smash.
Great idea and I like the umbrella for side b because something like it exist for pit’s down special with 2 shields that block and reflect projectiles but is vulnerable from the top and bottom and have hp. So the brella would work very close to that imo.
For the final Smash, I think it should be a reference to Octo Expansion; Spawning in on the platform in the inner agent 3 fight and using tenta missiles in the background (kinda like bowser’s final smash)

I think another good idea for integrating the dualies' dodge rolls into Smash's, is that if you press shield and a direction while firing you get the dualie roll with turret mode, in order to keep the regular rolls too, so as not to mess with the function of Smash's rolls.Fantastic ideas though, I absolutely love the Dynamo fair, the more spikes the better!
i really like this concept, if they did something like this for a fresh idea for a splatoon character, i would definitely play them, and personally i really love the idea of caster as up, kinda like joker's but more fun

One idea I also had was that since Inkling has a lot of frontline weapons (splattershot, slosher, inkbrush, blaster)... Octoling would instead have a focus on BACKLINE weapons and a more zoner-y playstyle

I've always had the idea of Octoling being an echo fighter to Inkling, and if they were to make Smash Ultimate Deluxe for Switch 2 instead of making a new game entirely (which they probably would make a new game entirely) then I assume Octoling would be an echo fighter there.
But anyway, my idea for Octoling was always just Inkling but slower and stronger, as well as taking more ink, which allows Inkling players to hop over to Octoling if they feel like they have mastered Inkling's moveset and thinks having a slightly slower and bulkier character would be fine because they can accommodate for their slowness with kill power.
- What I have always wanted, was for Neutral B to be Charger, if holding the button you can slowly walk left and right or aim the Charger up and down. Since that idea would be busted if normal Charger was the one being used, I'm assuming only Squiffer would be fair.
- Similarly, I think if Charger wasn't Neutral B (as proposed by the awesome Dualies idea by Chara) then I would really want normal Charger to be Up Smash, where the longer you charge it, the higher it goes and higher damage it does. Very similar to how Simon and Richter use their Up Smash, but perhaps with a sweetspot right at the end of it which rewards aiming or timing.
- And then I was thinking for other moves it'd just be more basic things, like Inkbrush to Octobrush, and Super Jump staying the same (as an echo fighter)
- But since Dread Wringer has come out since I last thought about an Octoling moveset, I think that'd be an interesting Down Smash instead of normal Slosher, maybe it could be Octoling's only faster option compared to Inkling, hm?
- Also Side B would be Dynamo with the same idea that Chara thought for Forward Air but as Side B for a reason, Inkling can jump out of their Side B to gain extra distance while recovering, so I figure that using Side B in the air for Octoling should serve a similar purpose even though Dynamo would be slower. Kinda hard to tell if Side B in the air would be worth it, just depending on how slow the Dynamo flick comes out.
Also why does Inkling not recharge ink faster when standing in the ink they placed on the ground with roller, c'mon.

Yeah this is really cool, making a more zoning move set for inkling. I know you said side special would be a kill option, though what if it was more of a combo tool. That way octoling would have the ability to combo well, as inkling up tilt isn’t great. Just a random thought I had. Those making Rivals custom characters, yall got homework for the steam workshop 😂.
things I'd change; make the dualies functional similar to Joker's Gun and occupy the Neutral B slot, make Zipcaster a tether grab that Inkling shares, and make it so S-Blast is both the Up Smash and Up Air, changing modes depending on which you use

They just have to be distinguishable in a free for all match on a giant stage from the inklings. If there is a red ocktoling and an orange inkling on Palutena’s temple it would be a little confusing imo

An idea I think would be cool on the character is letting them use the pearl drone as a recovery option. While used, the drone could act as a sprinkler and paint the stage

An idea I've had is Stringer as up smash. Think like, Snake's.
Three shots at once, fired straight up. Two arching a little ways away on each side, middle one not changing horizontal position. Each shot relatively low in damage, overall not very strong unless you're hit by all 3 on their way up, in which case it'd have much more power
I was also thinking sting ray would work well for a final smash. The inkling going off screen and firing a lazer from the forward ground and maybe launch a couple of tenta missiles to finish it off, almost like snakes final smash or zero suit. Booyah Bomb could work like the B bomb explosion in a way if that was picked.
I might be in the minority but I think the ink management mechanic should play little to no role at all. Maybe for like projectiles or have it run out if you're running too much and then you can recharge. Painting to slow down or speed up, I've never felt like it was a fun mechanic to play with or against at least on a casual level.
But then again I find most additional fighting systems in Smash to be unnecessary (except for my boy Little Mac LOL).

The Brella should be the octoling’s block. They block from one side but they can’t be stunned if the block breaks. They also shoot before they enter the block, and if they hold it, they shoot off their brella shield.
Joker gun has a similar shooting roll mechanic to the jab you are talking about with the order dualies
My idea for octoling before I watch the video. Tilts, and Aerials stay relatively the same, along with the same recovery. Smash attacks: Forward smash would have the octoling pull out a splattling, and it would work like mii gunners/ mega mans forward smash. The longer you charge it, the farther and more damage it does, and it would be that sort of multi-hit smash like mii gunner’s. Keep up smash and down smash the same cuz I’m lazy. Specials: her neutral special would be the dualies. It would function similar to jokers gun. You could hold it down, and perform two dodge rolls. The dodge rolls would be fast and have more I frames than a standard dodge, but would have more endlag. It would also put her into turret mode, increasing the range and power of the shots. For her side special, it would work like the roys side special. It would be a three hit slash combo with the splatana, and if you held it, it would fire the charger projectile and paint the ground. You would also dash forward. Her down special would be similar to toon links. You could pull out a burst bomb, and then throw it any any direction to set up combos. It would paint the ground a little if it hits the floor, and you could only have two out at a time.

Please read!!! I'd love if Pro-Chara could see this as well and potentially comment on this? I made a post on Twitter a few years back regarding an Octoling move-set for the next Smash due to Inkling not using a lot of their kits in Smash Ultimate. Here we go with the run down! I hope you guys also provide feedback:
1.) Side Smash: Charger, the longer it’s held the more damage it does and the more range it has. You can angle it to shoot slightly up, or down, depending on how you want
2.) Up Smash: Splatling, it’s a multi-hit smash attack. The longer you hold it, the more range it has in the air. It will shoot directly above Inkling and replace blaster being a good kill move. Unlike blaster, it won’t suck players in.
3.) Side Special: The only thing I’d change about this is being able to make the roller do damage in air, it’ll work like in Splatoon 2-3 where you can either fling ink on someone or you can get use it up close and personal for a meteor smash attack.
4.) Neutral Special: Dualies, I was conflicted with this one and even originally had this just be the down smash while being able to roll after pressing a direction… but Slosher is good. This will have the same utility, just replacing Splatershot.
5.) Up Special: Splashdown, it’ll not have nowhere near as big of a hit box that it has in the game (think Pyra's up special). However, it will be a meteor but will be a up special that you can’t recover from, and leave you with a lot of ending lag. Think ZSS/Tink.
6.) Down Special: Suction bomb, this'll be similar to mega-mans bomb where it sticks on you and eventually goes off after some time.
7.) Forward Air: Stringers, sort of work like Isabelle’s and Villager’s forward air, but not nearly as much damage. It could possibly kill at higher percentages though, but doesn’t rapid fire (has good range).
8.) Back air: Blaster, it’s a kill move. However, it’ll only be a great kill move if you hit the sweet spot. Otherwise, you’ll do sour damage. It does also have impact damage, but it won’t have much knock back and will only function as impact damage if the hit is from afar.
9.) Up Air: Nozzlenose, since their current up air is a two hit kick, I decided that the nozzlenose would be a perfect replacement being a two hit shot attack (for those unfamiliar, this weapon only shoots out two shots at a time).
10.) Dash Attack: Splatana, last but not least. It’ll function very much so how it does in Splatoon 3. It’s a great kill move, however… it’ll leave you open with its end lag. Has great start up mobility though.
11.) Neutral Jab: Inkbrush, I forgot to mention that I’m replacing the N-Jab with Inkbrush since it makes 100% more sense since it’s a flurry of hits in Splatoon itself.
12.) Perfect Dodge: Splatbrella, this won’t necessarily be an attack, but when Inkling pulls off a perfect dodge, the splatbrella will show up momentarily. Very similar how when Steve gets a perfect dodge, he uses a shield from Minecraft.
I like the idea for stringers cool concept, perfect shield being a brella prolly makes more sense.
For the FS, I was thinking that the octo would shoot out a shot from a charger (thin but long ranged), and if it hit anyone, it would trigger a cutscene of the opponent being caught in between the Octo Expansion Pearl Killer Wail and NILS statue beam OR the Pearl Drone wail against Overlorder.
for octoling I always thought that they would be a less combo heavy more slower punish playstyle (not an original idea but here are some of my move set ideas cuz why not)
they would be slower than inkling but there dash have "ninja squid" and be alot closer to the ground and harder to hit
up tilt would be dynamo vertical swing and be an attack similar to Ganons up tilt but with a lot long wind up and more range and coverage
bair has them pullout Dualies behind them shooting a blast that's quite powerful, as well as sending them in the other direction (similar to robs)
I really think octo brush should be F smash
up smash would have them pull out a splat brella from behind them and swing it Infront (this would drag anyone behind or infront too the next hitbox) before pointing it up for a long range shot that would be more dmg than inklings blaster but have a lot less coverage they would then open the brella for a bit that would protect them from some weakish attacks but with quite a bit of endlag
final smash should be a cutscene where your opponent is thrown onto the nills statue marina launches hyper bombs and explode while pearl does her killer whale thing

they have a pretty good one but they are are more of a hit and run character rather than the rushdown combo characters (idk if thats the best way to explain it im not really a competitive level ssbu player)
@@thatbraincellguy4163 Inkling literally only has boo-yah, then flunks to the bottom because their kill moves are laughably bad and unrewarding as possible.
Booyah is their only kill confirm(other than roller but thats roller) they have plenty of combos/strings that lead to high % but they struggle to kill becuase of the knockback at high% sending out range to combo but not far enough to kill
the idea I had for octoling is that they would have a lot easier time taking stocks but it would be harder to combo to kill% becuase of there less than optimal movement and moves having more knockback

I started thinking that since inklings are a reference to splatoon 1, octolings could be a reference to splatoon 2 and 3. This is a cool idea.
For the final smash I would've done a Booyah Bomb cutscene where inkfish appear at the bottom to booyah for you

These are all such great ideas but i think that for the final smash it should be killer wail 5.1, specifically the one used at the end of side order, since the character is based off agent 8
I think it would be cooler for down b to be a counter with stamper instead of the traditional bomb. It would work like a usual counter, except timing will decide how much ink it would use, knockback, and damage. There would be maybe four levels, miss, early/late, decent, and perfect, all denominated by different sounds. Good video tho ❤
a devac f smash would be crazy for covering tech options
if we want to prioritize Splatoon 2 and 3 weapons, the dash attack can be a quick wiper slash instead of a carbon roller
having the s-blast is a big maybe, especially considering that smash already has the super scope as an item
I love this idea of not making the Octoling an Echo fighter, but instead a sort of step above Inkling in risk & reward. It's like Mario and Luigi or something, where one is easy to pick up and play and the other plays similarly but requires more skill.
I really really want dash attack to be a wiper or stamper dash slash! I like carbon but I think the dash mechanic is absolutely perfect for a little dash attack

I hope the next splatoon game won't be like the last 2 installments and be basically a season pass that is then discontinued after a year or 2. imo if you pay the full price for a game you should be able to play it whenever and for how long you want
I would have made the final smash kraken royale because it could be really fun to control and could even give your counterplay idea a go by allowing attacks that hit the kraken while not in a damaging state (e.g. not charging or jumping) deal some knockback which already works well in a game about knockback.
I wouldn't mind if octoling is just an echo fighter with stuff changed like the octo brush, krak on roller, or maybe even the princess cannon
My idea for Octoling would have them use the Blaster as their main weapon, as a slower, mightier counterpart to the Splattershot. Their jab combo would be a shorter three-hit that ends with a shot from the Blaster. The look of the Blaster would also change depending on the skin, becoming the Sanitized Octo Blaster for the Octo Expansion alt(s) and the Order Blaster for the Side Order alt.
Other things:
-A Splatana would be used for the dash attack and the forward smash
-The Tri-Stringer, complete with some lingering explosions, would be used for their up and down smashes and maybe their aerials
-Side tilt would have Octobrush
-Neutral B would obviously be a Blaster shot, travelling a distance and dealing great damage on direct hits and a bit less on indirect
-Side B would have them charge up a Splatling and unload. This charge can be stored, like, say, Samus’ Neutral B
-Up B would be Inkjet. When the jet falls off the Octoling and propels them, it would land on the ground and damage anyone it comes into contact with
-Down B is Torpedo. Your idea is spot on
-Final Smash is Trizooka. Considering how hated that special is in S3, I think it would be funny ngl
With all that said, where are the Dualies and Brella? I’m glad you asked, because in my ideal future, this basic Octoling isn’t the ONLY Octoling coming to Smash… MARINA… uh… Ebbs to the Flow? That’s the best tagline I got.
-She wields a Splat Brella as her main weapon, swinging it around closed for jabs and stuff
-Her Forward Smash would have her either stab or fire a Splat Charger forward, since I had to represent it somehow
-She fires the Brella for her Neutral B, and it quickly opens up its shield where it acts as a reflector
-For her Side B, she does an explosive Dodge Roll (with the Dodge Roll Attack chip) and fires away with the Dualies in turret mode
-For her Up B, she launches herself out of a cannon alongside some Super Chumps that drop on the ground and explode like Hyperbombs
-Her Down B would have her charge up a Fizzy Bomb and throw it for lingering damage
-For her Final Smash, she would call Pearl to unleash the Princess Cannon on their opponents! (Inkling’s Final Smash would probably have to be changed to Booyah Bomb, however…)
-Pearl would also show up in her taunts and victory screen. Marina would also have a unique victory theme, being the snippet of We’re So Back that plays when you beat a boss in Side Order
-Marina would have a wide selection of outfits, like her default S2 look, her Octo Expansion outfit, her World Tour outfit from 3, and her Final Fest and Grand Festival outfits. These alts would also apply to Pearl.
Honestly if they did this I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with the same move set as inklings

If they ended up just being an echo fighter of inkling instead of an original one, basing them off agent 8 more and giving them the mc princess cannon over killer wail would be cool

Because a few people are mentioning them, the way I always thought about Ink Colours is... Rework them. Make them match either the player number colour, be completely random, or let players freely switch through them like how they can switch through the Pokemon of Pokemon Trainer. Don't make them tied to each alt. Also, make them always match your Team Colour in a Team Match. It'd be a cool nod to Splatoon, but also could allow for some minor synergy to using Multiple Inklings or Octolings on one team.
As for which version of each weapon appears... I think make them distinct between alts. Have a default Octolings which just uses default weapons, but two Order Agent 8 skins that uses Order Variants of weapons (they'd still work like the specific weapons which the order weapons aren't based on). Maybe have two versions of Agent 8 from Octo Expansion that uses the designs used by Sanitised Octolings. Then maybe a couple more generic Octolings of either gender, or maybe a Sanitised Octoling and a Fuzzy Octoling? You'd probably want one of those to be Male which never appears in-game, but it could still be cool.
they did miss a major opportunity not allowing teamed inkling to have the same colors. the "too little colors" argument can also be dethroned by looking at how many story and dlc mode/ splatfest/ salmon run colors they have. Also, a salmon run themed outfit should totally be added to the inklings costumes next smash
I prefer if the Splatoon characters are actual characters like agent 3 or like eight. That way the final smash would be like one them calling the idols to help finish the enemy off like in Octo expansion.
Well, they probably won't use the S-Blast since it's just the Super Scope which is already an item, but you never know.
I think if they did add this, smash fans would probably be mad.
They better come to terms with it because Splatoon is probably getting a second unique character consider considering how big the series is now (more so in Japan, but still). They’re as inevitable as Ring Fit Trainee & a new Pokémon.

I think they wouldn't change super jump as up-b to be honest, but may make it diagonal, move slower/less further, and/or more damage focused with a hitbox during the attack

Nice idea. And if Nintendo does put them in a hypothetical smash 6 I really hope they aren’t just reduced to being a clone. Honestly it’s sad to see that happen to any character on the roster. And I hope they get a final smash that isn’t a boring cut scene. I like that dynamo spike && final smash I’d give them would be everyone’s favorite, the stingray 😂

If octoling is a character, i imagined there final smash to be the same as inklings with the killer wail. But instead its the Pearl Killer Wail from both DLCs.
