Thanks for a thorough review. I'm seriously looking at purchasing the SR45. Update: I purchased the SR 45 in October 2017. I'm pleased to say its performance and reliability equals the expectations I had for it. The size doesn't bother me at all nor does the weight. Seems size and weight help reduce recoil impulse. It's one of the most accurate 45 acp firearms I've fired. Thanks again for your positive, professional review!
Outstanding review! I love my SR45 and it is my daily carry. With a proper IWB holster I do not notice the weight. I am a big guy and I can conceal it well.
Just got one of these last week and ran 120 rounds through it over the weekend. Zero jams or malfunctions. It seems to just work and be very accurate. Looking at a lot of comments on it, it looks like when it first came out there were quite a few problem child guns out there, and Ruger seems to have eventually figured out how to make the SR45 just work, because I don't see a lot of complaints of late with it. I do keep my magazine with 7 in it and one in the chamber for home defense, figuring that'll keep the spring from being too compressed over time and causing feed problems. If eight rounds aren't enough I'll just start hitting them with it. :) Great video.
Just to point out the Sr45 manual states to not dry fire the Sr series without a magazine inserted because off the magazine safety disconnect. Upside to that though is you can remove the safety disconnect if you wish.
My SR45 has been 100% very accurate. Just make sure the rails are oiled to ensure proper function. It's the same size of my Colt 1911, same grip angle, and it's like having a striker fired 1911.
What a fantastic video. Very well done, sir. I just nabbed one of these for $250 from a work friend. Feel like I stole it! Thanks so much for the breakdown and review!
As always, a well done review. I have the Ruger 9E, SR45, SR9C, SR40 and currently in process of acquiring the SR40C. These guns are as good as it comes. Triggers out of the box are crisp, on pull and reset (see hickok45's review of the SR40C). As far as 'too big to carry', not so. I easily haul the SR45 in a hip holster (I make my own), my issue is my car (C5 Corvette) is somewhat cramped so the big 45's can be bulky but still doable. The SR series is known to have light primer strikes and feeding issues but that is easily solved with Galloway Precision guide rod/spring and striker spring/rod. All my SR's have been upgraded with these Galloway parts so all load, fire and eject perfectly.
Thank you. Anything I have ever had from Galloway has been awesome quality. I tend to carry my Glock 26 most of the time but have carried my Glock 29 or even the G40 on occasion. If you are willing to make the right adaptations you can carry anything. Unfortunately many people want 1,000 round capacity but a gun that fits in a coin pocket.
I have no problem with concealed carry with my SR45, Sure its a little big but ill gladly deal with that for 11 rounds of awesome 45 ACP power!! I LOVE my SR!! I quit carrying my Glock all together after I got use to the SR. Good video by the way.
It's 10 in the magazine and 1 in the pipe. Many people, myself included, who Concealed Carry choose to keep the firearm in a ready-to-fire state. This results in a total capacity of the magazine, "plus 1". This is less relevant for range practice as you would normally not pop the magazine to top it off at the range (little value and one more opportunity for something to go wrong). So, anytime you hear somebody say + 1 you can usually assume is the magazine capacity and +1 is the chamber.
among the distinctive features is the 3rd set (or is it 1st) of guides like other Rugers of prior decades using the slide flange (w/ the guide rod hole) and the front of the frame making an inverted set of rails
I own the SR22 and it also has the mag disconnect. I actually like that feature and was wondering if all Rugers come with the mag disconnect safety. I know its also an option on the S&W M&P
The SR45 is an extremely accurate pistol if you do your part. I shoot mine really well. Even though I hate to admit it I just don't think the quality is there compared to my ppq, Glock, or other similar guns.
+MrHolster The magazine disconnect is actually relatively easy to remove, it is a component in the slide that can be removed by removing the firing pin and pulling the disconnect and its related spring out.
thats the same thing i said thwn i saw so many videos a out the gun malfunctioning springs breaking the magazine springs breaking failure to feed jamming issues the list goes on i heard the 40 and the 9mm is better that the 45
+Macelar Bun OK o have 2 Taurus pt845 and the first generation 24/7 pro 45 both hold 12 rounds and they shoot smooth I try to get the most out of new Jersey law..lol but yes I been looking at one for a while I have a glock 26 and I have shot the glock 21 but I do not like it it was the SF frame I hated it. The handle is to large. Thank you for your input. I'll try it out
I've been told that you can't take the slide out of lock back position without a magazine already in the gun. If this is the case, then how can you load the extra round into the chamber without loading one out of the magazine as well?
Happily it is not true that you cannot release the slide, all you have to do is use the slide stop/release on the left side (push it down) and the slide will release. However, the proper way to do the +1 (round in the chamber) does involve the magazine as you can damage the extractor by loading a round through the ejection port (the extractor will hit the round hard when the slide closes). The proper way to do this is to use a magazine with at least 1 round ("Barney Round") or a fully loaded mag, close the slide with the magazine inserted, then eject the magazine and fully load it and re-insert it. Beware that the gun is live and can fire once you close the slide so this must be done very carefully with your finger and anything else well away from the trigger!
Ruger says don't use the trigger to remove the slide, they built it and have reason why not to, have seen damaged sear mechanism on other firearms because people didn't follow the owners manual! Reason why Ruger's slide is heavier it's because it's cast and not forged, to be similar in strength to forged it has to have more mass. With investment casting, the parts need to be checked for internal flaws. Been a Ruger owner since 1989 and the SR45 is the first pistol I had issues with.
I'm 16 love shooting my dads SR45 has a heavy kick for me but I can hit a head from 25 yards and that's pushing it for a hand gun reason I said I was 16 I just started shooting a real firearms 2 weeks ago. BTW how far is your target 10 yards? also in case anyone ask I used .46 Winchester rounds
+gavin anderson my parents don't mind me out shooting them because if someone breaks in and I get my hands on the .45 the burglar is going to have a terrible last 5 seconds
We keep our target between 10 and 15 yards so that we can keep both the shooter's hand and the target in focus for the videos. I can tell you that this particular gun is actually even good out to 100yds. We were beating up a 100yd gong with this one at our outdoor range, so you definitely have picked a good gun. It is good to hear of younger people getting into shooting as that will help ensure it stays alive. Be safe and enjoy the shooting sports!
Check out our review on the DPMS Oracle 5.56/ It's a great rifle at a really good price. Ours has been totally reliable and we have had fun customizing it.
Thanks for the video. Loved it. I own one........however, it's in the possession of the local PD as my estranged wife filed for a restraining order on me when she found out I owned a gun. She said I was a danger to myself and started crying in front of the judge. Three year restraining order over doing absolutely nothing wrong. One year remaining. Welcome to Kalifornia.
I love the video but the sr45 is not heavy y'all catz just needs to lift some weights an get a workout in for real this gun almost have little to no weight
Thanks for a thorough review. I'm seriously looking at purchasing the SR45.

The SR45 is a nice gun and has been reliable, a bit too big and heavy for carry but great for range/home defense.
😊
love mine absolutely no problems at all wouldn't trade it for a glock
I totally agree with you!! Great Gun!!!
Same it's my daily driver
I had the SR40 and was amazing. Unfortunately had to sold it
Really easy to clean and oil
I really like my SR45 and have it on my night stand as a home defense weapon. I have a Streamlight TLR3 attached with an extra mag nearby.
+MrZonacat1 Sounds like a great home defense setup.
i have the exact same setup too
I have a sr45 can i use ets extended magazine for it its a 30 round but its .45 acp
Outstanding review! I love my SR45 and it is my daily carry. With a proper IWB holster I do not notice the weight. I am a big guy and I can conceal it well.
Thank you.
I've had my Sr45 since 2013 and it's and absolute freaken tack driver.

Great video.
Thank-you. Ruger does react very quickly when they find an issue with one of their models, the one in the video has been very reliable.
LincolnFStern yep...I put some of everything through mine with no hiccups

In my opinion, probably in all the new 45 pistols, this is the best one. Most balanced design.
I love this review, my SR45 has been great for me, as is life you can't please everyone, love mine !
Thank-you.

11 rounds? my father's only holds 10.

Hammer Striker OK yeah that's what I thought
10+1 rounds
among the distinctive features
is the 3rd set (or is it 1st) of guides
like other Rugers of prior decades
using the slide flange (w/ the guide
rod hole) and the front of the frame
making an inverted set of rails
I carried my SR 45 as my duty firearm as a armed security but had to qualify for it for duty use
What state may i ask? Florida and Maine dont allow for .45 to qualify
Excellent video. Very well demonstrated!
Thank you.
Super acurate gun i live in Tijuana and it keep it on my waist all year round !!!!im a glock fan but this 45 its a warrior on the streets
Never fired mine yet
I own the SR22 and it also has the mag disconnect. I actually like that feature and was wondering if all Rugers come with the mag disconnect safety. I know its also an option on the S&W M&P

Great video great gun I have one it works fine ..
+madman simpson Thank-you, we definitely enjoyed this one during it's time with us.
Mines accurate and no recoil plus no jams never i love it 😀
nice gun
Nice shootin'!!!
Thank you.
love my sr45 best security gun
I looked at this gun, it was priced right and had reports of being accurate but I just did not like the magazine disconnect.
+MrHolster The magazine disconnect is actually relatively easy to remove, it is a component in the slide that can be removed by removing the firing pin and pulling the disconnect and its related spring out.
thats the same thing i said thwn i saw so many videos a out the gun malfunctioning springs breaking the magazine springs breaking failure to feed jamming issues the list goes on i heard the 40 and the 9mm is better that the 45
+Macelar are they still on production? and if so I have not seen anybody online with positive reviews
I'll try it out
+Macelar Bun ho many rounds down range have you shot and what's the problems you ran into other than ammo
the overall length is more on the sr45 but it is thinner and way more accurate
You can dry fire without the magazine if you remove the magazine disconnect.

I am from the future and these are on sale for $199 at sportsmans warehouse.
I love mines it's all black and it's smooth
Hi good review great pistol what was the distance of the target
Thank-you. We usually are between 10 and 15 yds, which allows us to keep the shooter and the target in focus at the same time.
What cleaning kits do you recommend for cleaning this gun? SR 45?
I like to use Outers Nitro Solvent and Super Lube precision oiler.
Hammer Striker thanks for the reply . Took it apart to clean for the first time and was wondering what to use for lube on the slide . Great vid.
I can hit 25 yards because of the gun and hate to say it but I'm a natural at shooting
+gavin anderson my parents don't mind me out shooting them because if someone breaks in and I get my hands on the .45 the burglar is going to have a terrible last 5 seconds

+Hammer Striker thanks and next time I go I'll test 50 then 75 then 100. Also my parents are going to buy me a AR do you recommend any?
Check out our review on the DPMS Oracle 5.56/ It's a great rifle at a really good price. Ours has been totally reliable and we have had fun customizing it.
y trigger on Sr45 has play in it meaning I can move it to left…Is this normal on the sr45?
Can I put a laser on on my SR45
Yes, it would mount on that single-slit picattinny style rail.
sr45 will they make a sr45compact soon?
Rrroook Rook no
Thanks for the video.
+Matthew Hammar Thank you! That sucks about the order, hopefully you get it back promptly.
Get I t back and leave that ratchet place
What duty holster works for this?
Unfortunately we have not sought out a holster for it as we tend to use it as a range gun.
I found my carry gun
Resets are over rated unless you are a competitive shooter only shooting one type of gun!
I love the video but the sr45 is not heavy y'all catz just needs to lift some weights an get a workout in for real this gun almost have little to no weight
I prefer my p94 with less safety features
