  • GREEK MYTHOLOGY: How did Zeus Control the Gods? - Zeus' Confessions
This video contains the confessions from the king of the Olympians himself, set at the beginning of his rule. After the events of his first wife metis, Zeus must decide what king he must be, and how to control the flighty, all powerful beings in his family. How did he rule differently than his predecessors? How did he succeed where they failed? How was he different?
DISCLAIMER This story is based on greek mythology, but includes some artistic interpretations as it's a fictional story - it is a tale told from the perspective of Zeus - and no one is a villain in their own story.
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

The last video had me whipped into a "kill Zeus" fury....now...because of the exquisite storytelling and enthralling script, I want Zeus to win. For the good of all, we need Zeus to win.

Although that still doesn't explain why Zeus go after mortals women's. Their can't tell Zeus anything. Unless Zeus did it cause he still know that he can used their powers when their get older? Idk.🤔

Wow, just wow. We all know that Zeus gets laid more than Austin Powers and in sillier ways too, but that being his strategy of keeping both Hera and everyone else at bay and simultaneously creating a stock of progeny that by default would be loyal to him is a really interesting take. It’s not that he’s just a horndog(though, he is that as well), but he uses his biggest fault as a constant reminder to Hera that if he wanted to leave her, he could do it any day, he could even do it with a mortal if he so wished. He turned his biggest weakness into a strength, and that’s a dope way of seeing it. (even though Greeks probably just saw Zeus’ hornyness as a byproduct of his godly virility and manliness)

Before watching this video, I hated Zeus.
Now, after watching this video, my hatred for Him has taken on a nuance that I desperately needed, as someone who writes modern devotional poems to the Gods. I hate Zeus. But I respect His position and necessity.
Well done. Very well written and amazingly performed. This is not Zeus as the pre-Christian Greeks would have understood Him, but this is probably the best modern interpretation of Him I've ever seen. Maybe not accurate, but absolutely authentic.

I'm glad we see tht even though Zeus is very much his fathe'rs son in some aspects, even if only by his own private musings he knows that this is not purely a privilage and must be taken as a responsibility.
It's also quite fun to see that he had, indeed, skewed the lots. At least against Posidon.
It is interesting ot see these beings often personified actually behaving as PEOPLE instead of archatypes.

In our modern age, we see women as the bearers and bringers of life. This makes sense, however the ancients saw it differently. A field needs to be sown and the seed brings the life. With this reasoning, men, and by extension male deities, were seen as the creating force. The power of a god was expressed through his virility and Zeus was no different. It could be said that through his couplings he created the concepts associated with his offspring, like justice, the seasons, the arts, wine, medicine, kingship, and heroism to name but a few.

Love these with all my soul! My enjoyment of how you present the Greco-Roman myths is only matched by my excitement for when you cover less known ones. Keep up the good work, so far as you are able please.
I personally hope you eventually reach the Chinese myths, and the tale of Sun Wukong the monkey king especially. I would probably die laughing just hearing it.

Man i got say this is the best take on zeus i have heard. Hate to say it the Greek myths have always been a guilty pleasure on mine and nothing has infuriated me the modern-day take on zeus just look at Thor love and thunder. You truly made him to be a king to love honer and fear. You made him worthy of the title King of the gods. And I just can't wait till the other mythologies get going. And I got to say still love you on 40k as well.

      Thank you so much!
Greek society back then would have seen his infidelity as more of a comedic thing than as a horrible thing that our modern society frowns upon today - (And cheating is horrible!) - but we have always thought why would the people worship a god that isn't that good? It doesn't make sense
So we thought up how it could all work and we're happy that other people are enjoying take on the mighty king of the gods! Thank you for your comment and support !

I was watching a video where modern Greeks read ancient Greek passages to see if they understood them. One was the prologue to The Odyssey where Homer called upon the Muses, the daughters of Zeus, but the modern Greek read this passage as "Daughter of God" and their companion nodded in agreement and said, "Athena." Of all the children of Zeus, Athena is the Daughter of God, his most beloved, his second in command, and his prophecied successor.

Brilliant as expected nice one guys. I don't wanna sound like I don't love your content cause this is easily my favourite go to channel, by far. It did occur to me tho that when you've finished with this series I wondered if You've considered doing vids on like the Norse crew? Baldy would have a brilliant All Father accent and Lightbringer would crush just about all the Viking godess' voices..... Just a thought ....

      Hi Kevin,
We are going to move into most, if not all, of the mythologies as soon as we can. We are learning a lot as we go for this project, but our goals are large. And anyone thinking Baldermort would not want to do ODin and Thor, well, they don't know Baldermort at all then. :) Its coming. Trust us, its coming.

I'd always thought of Zeus as the 'GigaChad' who did whatever/whoever he wanted, just because he could (lol Swan).
I'd never even thought of this interpretation that he was cunningly Sowing his Oats to foster enough 'Baby Mama' Goddess allies to keep him from being overthrown so that their progeny wouldn't be culled like Scar tried to do with Simba. That's good!
Was this from material of the time? Some academic's thesis? Or did you and Baldermort come up with this analysis entirely on your own?

    • @livingmythology1405
      @livingmythology1405  8 месяцев назад

Well, Baldermort had a long long think about the King of the Gods, as he does. And he likes to make things logical, explain people's actions and intentions. He spent a LONG time mulling over why Zeus did what he did. Being a fan of 'The Prince' he looks at things sometimes a little unconventionally. So, although he would state that his hypothesis comes from a hard rooting in the mythology, this particular take on Zeus was mostly his. But then, he read a lot of classics in his youth, so its likely that he has taken from a lot of sources at the time possibly without knowing it. Either way, it seemed to ring true, so we went with it. Zeus was prayed to as a beneficial god. So we like to cut through what may have been later written in an attempt to demonize him. We are far from perfect, but we really do try our hardest to provide quality information and entertainment.

@@livingmythology1405 I knew it! Machiavelli was on the tip of my brain listening to this. (Not a bad thing. compared to some of the more 'might makes right' morality of more direct sources like The Melian Dialogue)

Uranus Cronus Zeus Dionysus.. those that used Eve and Lilith.
As a Hermes fan.. I can only tell you that it sounds like an ass who was a crony and afraid of ending up a drunk.
I guess nobody had the heart to tell him that he was his own worst enemy.
    Or hindrance unto himself.
