Honestly, wouldn't ever have thought about tipping a tattooer. I think there's an assumption over here that tattoo artists are self-employed, and that the price they set has already taken into account overheads like renting a booth/cuts for the shop.
Well the thing is a tip is just that. A tip for good or above good work. If your work is average or below-average no you don't deserve a tip. And tattooers are obviously different than like a waiter and a waitress that treats you like total crap and still expects a big tip from you. Because most tattooers are doing good work. And if you're happy with the work they did you should tip them. But a tip is not an entitlement it is not to be expected. And it just really irritates me that workers who do average or below-average work still expect to be tipped like they did fantastic work. I don't mind tipping 20% or even more if I'm extremely happy with the service. But if you did average service you're not getting a tip and you don't deserve one. Frankly I don't really care about bedside manner. I'd rather have someone who's a total d b4g and does absolutely fantastic work then someone who's really nice but does average work. And I tip accordingly
The Vice mini documentary on Ed Hardy was super interesting to me as someone who knows nothing about tattoos and assumed 'Ed Hardy' didn't exist and was just a name of a company. It was fascinating to learn he's such an influential and pioneering figure in the tattoo world and that licensing his name allows him to continue making art.
My tattoo artist has an Ed Hardy original (addressed to him) on his studio wall and it is so sick! I've stared at that piece for many an hour while getting my sleeves done and I really grew to appreciate the artist beyond the tacky licensed apparel
Wow huge Ta Moko, the guy is definitely proud of his Maori heritage. While you don't see heaps of people walking around with face tats in NZ, if you do it's not often this covered.

As @ziganamonroe1812 said, that is a big ta moko (traditional New Zealand Maori tattoo). Makes his face look really striking and kinda beautiful really. Although the tat does look awesome, I've seen much more symmetrical and crisp facial ta moko. However, a lot of these Maori tats are done in the non-machine traditional (kinda like hand-poke) way, so that could definitely make any wonkiness totally cool and kinda wanted/expected. I believe a lot of ta moko is about the actual process of tattooing with lots of family all around, and the patterns are all tribally/family connected. I've even seen quite a few ta moko process vids with both the family and the tattooee all crying - not from the pain but with the emotion of the cultural/spiritual connection of the process. I can't really talk too much on ta moko as I'm a New Zealander on the very pale end of the skin colour spectrum, so if there any true ta moko knowers here please feel free to correct me! 🤍

Tipping has gotten out of control. If you are the shop owner, and you don’t have to give a cut to the shop-then just charge what it costs. Tipping was created for waitresses making $3.00 an hour and people who have to give a cut of the price to the owner of whatever place they rent a chair/station at (like hairdressers).
Tipping culture in the US is crazy. Employees should be paid a living wage. If the employer can’t afford to, put the tip into the price of the service your company provides. Working people shouldn’t fear not being able to afford food or rent just because they have a bad/slow day/week at their job. (Also, labelled prices of products in stores should include taxes.)
Question: if you use chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid and physical like a sugar scrub multiple times a week would those affect how they age ? (Sorry if it’s a dumb question I’m just trying to learn)
Every since I was able to have a job I've prided myself on my generosity. I live on campus with a lot of homeless people and I give out $10 bills on an almost daily basis, I'm always the guy that'll spot you a pack of smokes or take a friend out to the bar or spot you $100 if you're short on your rent or something. But aside from a server I know is getting paid under minimum wage I've never tipped...like ever. Being generous and decent is one thing. It's another thing if you expect it and if you automatically charge me a tip without asking I'm calling the cops. We all got our principals.
I mean if you want a portrait the size of a quarter and for it to look good but who wants that i will say its impressive small fine detailed stuff is hard
I go to the same shop often for my tattoos. There are two artists that tattoo totally differently and I like both. I never had been asked to tip, they never pressured me for that. I do tip, always, because they already give me 450.00 tapout sessions. (Probably because i always tip.) Lol
I waited until I was 36 years old to get my face tattooed. I have my career and am set in my ways. Next is the whole head and I love it. But yes, wait. I paid for my daughter to get her shoulder tattooed to prevent her getting her face lol.
My last tattoo I didn’t tip. It was at a convention and she was a little overpriced imo. My normal artist I always tip, but he hooks me up and we’ve been friends 20 years
I had to *argue* with my fave tattooist (she's Italian, and travels around) to take her full rate for my last tattoo - she was trying to round it down. This was in the UK though
Yes I tip my tattooist, yes I'm American. I want my tattooist to like me. Do I think he's going to give me a shit tattoo if I don't tip him? No. But he's sticking needles in me. He can make it hurt if he wants to. I guess if you only ever get one tattoo from someone you can do as you please as to tipping but I prefer going to the same shop. They know me. So they know I don't argue about price, I don't tell them how to tattoo, I sit like a rock, and I tip.
I got 1200$ worth of work done last week and I didn’t tip. I know the guy, but I didn’t really think if he would feel like I was being a dick for not tipping. Y’all think I messed up?
I am 48 years old, I only started getting tattooed almost two years ago, I hav 8 tattoo's, 1 of which is on my ear & I love it ❤ I intend getting it extended to, onto the side of my face ❤🥰🏴
Fingers just don't take ink well, especially the knuckles and inside of the hand. The best blackout artist, or someone who's baddass at putting in colour in (if you can pack colour in the skin really well you can most likely do a solid blackout) will have to do a 2nd pass for sure to make it look decent. Maybe even a 3rd. I've seen a lot of people trying to black out their hands and it just doesn't look great. Also that f**cking eye tattoo under the dudes eye. Dear god I hate it 😂
I don't tip percentages I tip on scales. Under $500 I will tip a percentage. Over 1k, $100 flat. I think $100 is a more than fair tip given the amount of money I am already spending.
I tip because its "customary" or "expected" but not because I necessatily want to. When getting a tattoo you are paying hundreds of dollars for the artist to do the work and for their artistic design. I mean no offense at all, but I just dont see why a tip is "customary" or "expected" after all is said and done.
I've never tipped my tattoo artist... I also don't have any tattoos, but I like watching the videos.
Technically the truth I gotta give it to you 😂

600 for a tattoo and they expect a tip. Fuqq that

I'm in Canada, I usually try to tip around 20% depending on the tattoo
I’m in Canada too. Outrageous prices and tipping culture is why I get all my tattoos done in Japan. Plus I get an awesome vacation out of it.
I mean if you want a portrait the size of a quarter and for it to look good but who wants that i will say its impressive small fine detailed stuff is hard
the first tat healed looks like a crt filter over the tattoo
The first one looks like an etch a sketch
I have a neck tattoo and my left hand and fingers are covered. I didn't realize it was that big of a deal. I'm an archaeology archivist at a college.
P.S., regarding blacking out fingers: My knuckles are blacked out, have had 2 passes and need 1 more.
I go to the same shop often for my tattoos. There are two artists that tattoo totally differently and I like both. I never had been asked to tip, they never pressured me for that. I do tip, always, because they already give me 450.00 tapout sessions. (Probably because i always tip.) Lol
We love your videos ❤
I waited until I was 36 years old to get my face tattooed. I have my career and am set in my ways. Next is the whole head and I love it. But yes, wait. I paid for my daughter to get her shoulder tattooed to prevent her getting her face lol.
My last tattoo I didn’t tip. It was at a convention and she was a little overpriced imo. My normal artist I always tip, but he hooks me up and we’ve been friends 20 years
you should really do a vid on PinupPixie, she's getting her whole body tattooed to be an andriod I think it's really cool
after watching a lot of his videos, he would not like that lol
@The_Rekluse maybe lol
Early gang
The tattoo shop I got to they never ask for a tip even if I wanted to tip they wouldn’t accept it’s kinda cringe to tip on top of a expensive tattoo
i want these tattoo channels to do a video of the BAD tattoos they have done...
Let me show my palm tattoo every chance I get to talk with my hands
Dear god I hate it 😂
hell yea dude
I don't tip percentages I tip on scales. Under $500 I will tip a percentage. Over 1k, $100 flat. I think $100 is a more than fair tip given the amount of money I am already spending.
I tip because its "customary" or "expected" but not because I necessatily want to. When getting a tattoo you are paying hundreds of dollars for the artist to do the work and for their artistic design. I mean no offense at all, but I just dont see why a tip is "customary" or "expected" after all is said and done.
Lol I’m not tipping, we (Aussies) pay enough tax already and it’s included in the price (if the tattooist is smart)
