Naomi was using lots of topspin rather than her flat shots which made her errors less and kept her shots heavy. She was serving second serve in 140 kmh rather than her regular 120-130 range which was great improvement
It makes such a difference. I think hitting with a little more topspin is something a lot of the players on the WTA tour who tend to hit hard yet flat could benefit from.
@@bweb6 yeah flat hitting when it peaks is absolute stunning like ostapenko hitting against iga. But most times it isn't. Osaka has the strength to play heavy topspin game as well. She can balance easily

Naomi is looking amazing. Clearly she's working hard and getting better.
Started showing the glimpse of vintage Osaka. Her ball strikes are much more cleaner than her previous matches. Her competitiveness is on her way back. keeping going

What a performance! Definitely a key moment for Osaka this season. Her first Top 30 win in almost 2 years, and gets revenge over Garcia from the Australian Open loss. Her movement in particular looked really comfortable as opposed to the visible rust in Australia. Great to have Osaka on tour again 👊

It's great to see Naomi beat a player who she lost to earlier this year. Boost of confidence. 👍
Improvements she made. 1. Her return which was lacking in first five matches.. She was using topspin shots to keep them in rally and it paid off Garcia had to rally and lost in forehand duels. Osaka forehand is scary.
2. Her movement. Slowly her rust is leaving and she was returning way more balls and made Garcia play extra balls.
3. Second serve. Her first serve is weapon we all know but her second serve today was deep n big which didn't give free points. She was doing 140 kmh range which is faster than her regular range. Did score double faults but overall it paid off.
4. Topspin shots rather than flat forehands. She was Landing way more shots inside baseline. That's why less winners but also just 19 errors. Flat shots would've scored more winners but way more errors.
Great analysis! That summary resonates with me because hitting too flat/going for winners is something that I struggle from in my own game.

Naomi’s game worked here, shes mentally prepared, taking the 1st set boost her confidence. She also read caroline’s serve, hitting returns better. I hope she continues with this level.

I thought we'd seen the best of Osaka, but she's clearly working her butt off in training. Loved her defensive game more than anything, tried to chase everything down and gave Garcia no free points.
Looking more nimble on her feet. I know it's just one game, but already she's proving me wrong after AO showing.
U people r too harsh. Aus open was just six mnths after her delivery and she needed match practise. She lost respectful scoreline with just one break
@deepakmahajan170 in all fairness, Naomi's performances were not great before the baby. The year she's had off may prove to be a blessing in disguise as now she looks more refreshed mentally than she has in years, and her focus is back.
You're a huge Naomi fan and obviously draw positives on anything she does, but as mutuals, we can only comment on what we see.
Her last 2 performances have been very solid, but her AO performance was similar to her performances right before she had the year off. The brutal reality is in all sports, you're only as good as your last match, and in Naomi's case, her performances are looking solid again right now. 👌

The rust seems to be coming off from Naomi's game - she was moving well and the sting in her shots are back and it will only get better!! So happy to see Naomi getting back her game - that's great for women's tennis!
Naomi took a bagel from Collins in her last match (R1 in Abu Dhabi last wk), came back by storm and won this grudge match. This is a huge confidence booster for her, I can see her making a nice run here at Doha.
Normally the highlights show the points won by the winner of the match and on top of that one or two points won by the loser of the match. In this case, Osaka won the match in straight sets but the highlights show 14 points won by Garcia and just 10 points won by Osaka. Weird. 🤔
Actually osaka made Garcia play way more shots with her topspin. She scored less winners but also less errors. Garcia had like seven or eight more winners but osaka caused her so many errors with her power

I am so very happy for Naomi. I hope she will go very deep in the tournament. We all know that her low ranking is only
because she has not played for so long. It is obvious that she does not really want to play the lower level tournaments so
she is using her protected ranking to play the bigger tournaments. She will figure out how to work back in to fully fitness.

What I found surprising is that Garcia seems to have played well, while Osaka is still on the mend. Not a good sign for the French.
I mean, she really needs to give herself a year, but this is a good win for her. She needs to be patient with herself. I hope she can build on this though.
Yeah she said by us open she wants to hit form. But will be patient enough if she doesn't wins a slam this year. If she keeps up. 2025 slam will come

The field should be a little concerned she isn’t moving as well as Naomi in her prime but she is def moving better than the last few matches. That serve was top tier and the topspin was masterful

Naomi has a tough draw in tournaments this year. She needs one good tournament to jump up the WTA Rankings. She still needs some time to get back to the top, but she is playing better and better from match to match.

Naomi's service and strokes are as good as before. She just needs to work on her movement and regain the 2 or 3 steps she's lost over the last couple yrs. Given that she is still young, it should be very doable if she is up for it.

@@FlyingRacketthere is no big three in women tennis. Sabalenka is only threat at every slam. Elena lacks in slams and iga is no more big threat at non clay slams and has mediocre result in non clay slams since 20222
@deepakmahajan170 I didn't mean to compare them to ATP big 3. However, at this moment, these three women are reason to watch WTA (for the majority of their people). Maybe because their rivalries are intriguing. We desperately wait for them to face each other and give a spectacular match. Sabalenka has won AO, Iga, and Elena has lost only one watch so far. They are going to dominate again for 2nd year in a row. I want to include Coco, too, but her matches against them aren't very interesting, and she has a tendency to lose to players we don't expect her to.
@@rupindersingh9952 coco is bigger star than them in real world. None of others three are known to general public. Hoping osaka gets top level bcoz she is star

and she is probably worse against Sabalenka on fast courts and grass until saba's physical decline due to age.
