I have a Boxwood growing in a garden that’s been mostly ignored for 15 years. I’m new to Bonsai and it will be the first tree I dig up. The trunk is wonderful and has great Shari. This video is wonderful motivation. Liked and subscribed. Please do a follow up video regarding potting and aftercare of this tree 😊
I will definitely do a progress update on this tree in a few months so please tuned! I am also going to do another video on a smaller boxwood, so please check that out when it comes out soon!
Thanks as usual for the interesting content. I'm analogously working on a ligustrum having pretty much similar features and getting a lot of satisfaction.
Please Dr Chang when you switch tools let us know which tools your using and why and where your cutting. Are you leaving a stub or flush cut? Thank You…>. ❤❤❤
Love your videos I was wondering about my bonsai mix I’m using potting mix scoria and perlite it seems to work but pls tell me if you have tried it or is it going to be i problem down the line with my trees i have tried lots of potting mixes and i have lost of old trees i don’t want to kill them ps they drained very well thank you
Scoria is a lava rock…content may vary depending where you buy them from. If it works for you, great! If it costs you a lot because it is marketing, switch to ordinary lava rock which will work similarly. A mix of scoria and perlite is really no different from hydroponics. Watering has to be precise in watering and fertilizing. I have not grown bonsai in either lava rock or perlite, or just watering. Please share your experience with the BH community so we can learn from your methods!
That is a beautiful tree. As a matter of interest do you think that buxus (the extensive root pruning triggered this question) is a species for which propogation is likely to be successful using root cutting techniques?
Thanks! I have not tried to propagate boxwood by roots cutting, given it is not a tree that suckers. Suckering is usually a good indication. Cutting is easy with boxwood. Please let us know your experimental result to share with the rest of the BH community., I’d appreciate it!
@@bonsaiheirloom I was at a Huge Garden recently and saw a "Rainbow Eucalyptus" Tree.. It had a Huge/Beautiful rainbow-colored Trunk.. I'm thinking to find one, or get a Cutting, & grow it out... Have you ever seen one??? Amazing!!😳😍
The box is going to be amazing in your hands.
Thanks Joe!
Now you’ve got me wanting to dig up my c. 2004 boxwood hedge in front of my bay window!! LOL!!
Go for it!
I'm looking forward to see the next steps of this work! Thanks for sharing your work with us!
You bet!
What a beautiful specimen. Thanks, keep growing

October 2023!
You are awesome! I wish I could be your student. USA
You can be a student by watching my videos! If you ever have any questions, please feel free to comment it and I will do my best to answer!
What period of the year was this done ? I’m always confused as when to dig up bonsai material without killing the plant!
This was done in the fall in October.
Are the large pruning shears Falco do they have wire cutters at the base. It is so hard to find good tools. Thank you.
Most of my tools are generic brand name. If it works, I will use it! No need to buy tools that are exclusively for bonsai.
