When we were kids we always replied when unsure about where we were going on holiday that year " to Ketley Sands". I always thought that was due to the large sand pit on Ketley Rec. So I learned something new today.
Thanks - so pleased you liked it! Now N-Z... well been working on it for ages, then we had a baby and then COVID gets in the way of filming the finishing touches! I have 80% in the can - I really must finish it! I will probably look much older in it by the time I have done it!
Thanks Neil - glad you enjoyed it. I had so many ideas for each letter so I picked a C and a G that I thought might not be so well understood. I need to finish the second half of the alphabet and when I do I will be interested in your comments.
@@AnthonyFrancisJones Yes Ant very interesting gained some knowledge. Also I might add very well presented. That segment on Corbetts of Wellington Very interesting Abe the saucepan radio.👌
@@neilwilliams2409 Thanks - that's very kind - the Corbetts are coming back in the second half of the alphabet... I felt a bit mad filming drain lid covers! As you point out there is so much more to say and so many other areas to visit - I had a long list for each letter - would love to do it all again but it is amazing how long it takes and if I am not sure of something finding primary sources rather than regurgitating unchecked stories. What I wanted to do most of all is share why Telford is such an interesting place as I have done with some of my London films. Now I must finish the second half....!
@@AnthonyFrancisJones your not wrong. It is everywhere.I appreciate it takes considerable time and effort so many thanks. I loved studying the industrial revolution. So your video took me back to places I know well. Look forward to the follow up video.
My neighbour worked at everready and suffered with her lungs due to chemical exposure so did their cousins a lot of people had health problems from breathing in the chemicals used in producing those batteries
Interesting to hear Barbara. Times were different then and it is really interesting to hear people's stories. As far as I know no mercury batteries were manufactured there thankfully.
@@AnthonyFrancisJones yeah it was well known that many women who worked there developed lung problems I was offered a job there when I left school but turned it down because of bad health problems I'd heard about
@@barbararichards8421 thanks - that's interesting. Funny that it is all a housing estate now and people who are new to the area would never imagine what hive of productivity was down that little road!
Yeah I remember when the place was demolished and the locals saying that the ground was contaminated and would need cleaning up before anything else could be built there. Personally I'd not live there I know what's under the ground.
Sorry I just want to try to learn Welsh and practice from time to time. Lol. It's a difficult language to learn but my ancestors might have been Welsh. I know my 2nd great grandfathers name was James Welsh Kemp. One of my 4th great grandmother Sarah Gosse Kemp was the great aunt of Sir Edmond Gosse. Not sure if you've heard of him. I never heard of him until I researched my paternal grandmothers ancestry. Her great grandparents the Kemps came from Poole Dorset England in the 1830s to 1840s
@@2380Shaw Facinating - you have a poet's blood - Welsh, not easy to learn but for the literature alone worth the challenge. Close by to here in Oswestry (still England) you hear lots of Welsh spoken especially by older people.
Telford is not Ironbridge look at a map . I was once in Mexico 🇲🇽 and somebody asked where are you from I said Telford they replied traffic lights and roundabouts lol
Thanks Nicholas - did I say that? You are of course right. It is in the Unitary Authority of Telford and Wrekin. Whether you can say Ironbridge is 'in' Telford I am not sure!
Thanks Andrew - I have hunted for primary sources and seem to keep getting: 'officially opened by George Raxster, Chairman of Shropshire County Council, on 18 October 1994'
@@AnthonyFrancisJones yes, your right, i just looked at a copy of the Shropshire star i have from 1997, i got it mixed up with the Jackfield & Coalport Memorial Bridge.

I grew up in Telford from 1980 - 2008. It has some fascinating history. Nice video, now to find the next one!

I'm from Wellington and did not no some of this history thank you for doing this video I've learned some thing new..
Thanks very much for taking the time to comment. Yes, there are so many interesting things to see in this area it's knowing where to start!
I have not been to Telford, but I do now know something about it! As always, very educational and enjoyable watching.
Glad you enjoyed it - it was fun and hard work to make. I am finishing off the remaining N-Z bit over the next few weeks - might take a bit longer...
Really good video!
Thanks Andy. Glad you liked it and I guess you know quite a few of the places. Do watch Part 2 as well.

Hello friend how are you doing at the moment?
I'm suprised it's not part of Wales. From what I understand it's close to the Welsh border
Yes, close and boarders moved all over the place over the years but sits in its own unitary authority within Shropshire but it is not a county!
