You are right Michael - it was / is planned. In fact I plan to make a while on the ground series on the tub boat canals but I have become a bit bogged down in some projects based on the BCN which are much nearer to home. Its pencilled in for the winter of 2023/4
I'm compiling a list of canal tunnels and in the absence of other information, based my 104 metre length of the Shepherds Lane tunnel one the 1902 map. Is your measurement of 50 yards base on a document?
Hi Robin - I cant find a reference to the length and I may well have been confused by the possible length of the tunnel at the foot of the incline.... Having walked the area I would say 100 yards is more likely.

great video. i live in ketley, theres a road called the incline,i was at the old canal today, i have found 2 of the old ketley incline coins in this area,,the stretch behind the ketley hall used to be an old wall with huge iron hinges, always wondered what they may have been?
Thats certainly the line of the track but I dont think anything physical survives apart from the Tunnel and that fragment of bridge. Where did you find the tokens?

Andy really great video, I am in the process of creating a walking tour of the exact route, I have completed the shropshire from Coalport to Southall - I have filmed the Coalbrookdale branch, But would love to walk the Ketley canal with you some day - my channel is Telford Ultimate Guide - be great to collab some day. That would be fun. Did you know that there is an underground tunnel in the garden of the winch house at the top of the Coalbrookdale Incline? I went down it about 10 years ago.
I cant say I know for sure, but as the canal served Ironworks at one end and collieries at the other its a fair guess that the local watercourse ran red either with iron ore or more likely red clay as extracted in Potters bank. THis is only a reasoned guess ....
@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 Thanks Andy for that it’s always made me think where these names come from. My grandad used to have a scrap yard at Cows Wood ,that’s another name I was intrigued with. . And when the scrap yard went for housing development ,mine pits were found and even a small railway cart I presume for carrying coal was found. I love history like this ,I was watching your You Tube clip on Ketley and I found it very interesting. Can’t wait for the next one. Keep up the good work. Take Care. Xxxxxxx

@@debrapeel5140hi Deb I used to love going to the back end of the scrap yard from the old fields from the farm. Seeing all the old cars stacked up with trees growing through them was epic. If only I had a mobile phone like I have today the footage would have been amazing to watch now. Lucky still to have the memories. Remember also drinking water from the water fountain over from the church. I also remember some bunkers or shafts in the woods by mossy green I used to go in too.

The Derby /Reynolds family were very successful and attracted a lot investments from other Quakers.
Ketley bank(or coal pit bank) was where I used to live from 77 to 2000 .
A very historic if completely unrecognised location.
