Point #2 is pretty much true when you realise the sheer size of Pakistan's population, but in relation to point #1 Pakistan wouldn't be considered overpopulated if it hadn't missed the opportunity for a Green Revolution. Pakistan turned the Indus Valley, it's largest blessing, into a liability, by ignoring farmers and letting the agricultural sector rot while the army and predatory land lords were given all sorts of priorities.
Also I can confirm point #3. Most Pakistani cities are divided into three parts: the "cantonment" (military elite), the elite neighborhoods (civilian elite) and the inner city/slums (everyone else). You can actually see how stark the class divide is in Pakistan by simply looking at satellite images of cities like Lahore, Islamabad and Sialkot.
My family is privileged as we come from Clifton, an "old money" neighborhood in Karachi with malls and skyscrapers, but in the poorest parts of the city, there isn't running water...nearby the navy is busy building 2 conventional submarines at the port even though the country already has 8... the only reason there hasn't been a revolution is because the generals of Pakistan have already weakened civil society to the point that it's impossible to fight back.

For the past 20 to 30 years, Pakistan has focused all its energy and finances on the issue of Kashmir. Now climate change is making parts of Pakistan inhabitable and the government as no money. History is bound to repeat itself if you don’t learn from your mistakes. If you ask a Pakistani what happened to east Pakistan you get very vague answers, which means the military gov does it’s best to suppress the bad things the military does or has done in its past! What does that mean, that the normal folk don’t get to know the bad things the military gets away with! I hope Imran khan comes on top of this! People are dying, inflation is rampant, the economy is dead in the water but the political establishment only cares about the power struggle. Half of the reason the situation is so bad is thanks to untimely removal of Imran Khan from the office which was followed by a government with no political mandate. What has ruined people's lives isn't just corruption, but their own short-sightedness. One of the most critical issues I learned about Pakistan's past that led to its current condition is that people kept pushing political leaders to focus on near-term issues without any regard to long-term problems. In order to keep their support, politicians would abide by the demands for years and decades which eventually lead to this current outcome.

@@OverTheVoids see that's fair but I feel that a large part of the reason you have people looking at near term issues instead of long term issues in countries like Pakistan is because the standard of living is extremely low plus low levels of education, both of which the government may intentionally keep that way to retain control of votes. When a large percentage of the population is near poverty, they are worried about getting through the next day not the next few years, and so a politician promising to give them greater benefits right after they are elected even at the expense of future debt and prosperity is voted in. Low education levels also plays a role since they don't know much and are easily persuaded. I understand that people are at fault for their voting choices, but at the same time I feel that if a lot of us were in their shoes, even though we may believe otherwise we would most likely do the same as them. It's hard to comprehend unless we've been there.

It would have been nice to call the politician out by asking what communities to visit so that you can see the money being put to use. I guarantee you they don't give you a single one. They'd sooner spend the aid money on fattening their pockets and repairing/shoring up their own communities.

    • @BigBoiiLeem

Yes, there is corruption in Pakistan. There is corruption almost everywhere in the world. You do know we don't just have to fork over money, right? There are myriad other ways we can help (i.e., food aid, medical assistance and airlifts, vaccines and treatments for waterborne illnesses, logistical support, etc.). More to the point, even when we do "give" these countries money for disaster relief, we hardly ever just "give" them money. We usually create no-interest loans that *do* get paid back. In the grand scheme of things, the amount developed countries spend on aid makes up an absolutely tiny proportion of government spending. If we decided to stop aid just because some of it will be wasted, then we are selfish, stupid, and short-sighted.

As a pakistani, the problem is that most the governments we've had are extremely corrupt and when you the houses they live in, the cars they drive and a the food they eat, you have to wonder if there's any hope at all. The disparity between the provincial governments is as such that if u come to KPK or Punjab the situation won't be as dire because the provincial government gives a crap about it's people to an extent. But Sindh is a cesspool of corruption and crime and will remain so as long as the current provincial government reigns. We are a corrupt nation this corruption is endemic from the grassroots to the top and unless a proper revolution in which rivers of blood is shed does not occur, reports like these will remain and we as a nation will always be struggling.

There is one major problem with your notion: the Army (also known as the Nexus or Establishment) of Pakistan would lose their power if they invested in the betterment of Pakistani society. By focusing funds towards the military, the Pakistani military can ensure that civil society stays weak and they stay as the powerful ones on top, pulling the strings behind every election and watching feudal families play out their psychotic rivalries, using the country's withered economy as a chessboard.
For the past two decades, the Pakistani Army has been bombarding the Northern Areas in hopes of keeping the insurgency well-alive, so that when the Army steps in and the rangers clear out the terrorists, the Army can take credit and clean their tainted image, but that was the past. They told us the Indians were our enemy. Then, they told us the Taliban were our enemy, but today, most Pakistanis see General Asim Munir as the real enemy.
But what ordinary Pakistanis do, feel, think or say does not actually matter! The mass protests following Imran Khan's ousting were useless in bringing about change; the new puppet government even barricaded the capital with walls of containers. Today, Imran Khan is being arrested. This is the world we live in. The strong prey upon the weak.

If you live in a country with limited resources, the answer is not to reproduce fervently; it's actually quite the opposite. After a certain point, no matter how much help and aid is sent, it wont be enough to create impactful change, simply because there are simply too many people involved to allow for the help to be substantial.
