  • Nazish has been stuck inside the same four walls in Karachi for 12 years. She's in Asia's largest asylum, a place not just for mentally ill women, but a dumping ground for Karachi's unwanted, inconvenient women. And their numbers are growing: originally housing just 400 patients, 1700 women are now crammed inside.

This is so utterly heartbreaking to watch because there seems to be no hope and perspective for these patients just because of society’s view towards the mentally ill and the role of women in this society! It shouldn’t have to be like this… I am so glad, being a woman I grew up in a western country!

Saddest documentary that I've ever watched. That the ones who are better are not able to go out and make an independent life for themselves reflects on the society and country.

It feels so crazy to keep them there against their will. Dr. Shabana and Hira can totally manage their own livelihoods. Let the out! This is imprisoning them against their will.

I can understand your perspective, but an alone women in Pakistan is not safe. Even if they go out willingly they won't find any job at all to sustain themselves. And then end up on the streets , then the cycle continues. Even if it's hell this shelter it is still better then becoming homeless.

This is very typical not only of some Muslim societies but, of a lot South Asian countries also. Sadly, women and girls are not valued the same as boys. Islam teaches that women have rights, the right to marry, or not marry. The right to property, to work, and have a education. Islam also teaches, women and girls, are to be loved and protected. Male and female are equal. But, as we see, time and time again religion fails. Or makes the issues worse. Corrupt Imams and scholars push the abuse of women and girls. Culture, and religion now have become interrelated. Pakistan 🇵🇰 you can do better than this. Muhammad Ali Jinnah is rolling in his grave. I can understand poor families doing this. But, shame on the wealthier ones doing this..

This is common practice around the world. women and girls are treated like objects. In the western world it's called pimping or polymy . I am surprised these girls are not used for organ transplants. I can't wait for the A.I. replacement. There are so many Young men around the world who want to transgender over to females. Female reproductive organs can transfer to a male. and A. I.microchip can be implanted to a male's brain. And there you have it a perfect woman!!!!

Edhi has been a very legendary NGO in Pakistan 🇵🇰 for years. Their an all volunteer organization that serves Pakistan's most poorest and vulnerable members of society. I'm not sure but, I think the founder of Edhi was a wealthy elderly gentleman who gave ALL his wealth to serve humanity in his country. The motto is "Serving Humanity is the spirit of All Religions"..

Is it is so bad in the big cities, what is going on in the countryside? That Muslim culture, so family oriented and so respectful towards the old, and so orbiting around god, ets, etc (as they would want you to believe) is a simple shit-hole.

There should be better living conditions. Each woman should have her own room. Living in such conditions like hen's cages can worsen mental condition. Even a normal person can lose sanity.

The whole society is poor that unable to take care of old, weak and disabilities. The government should open more caregiver jobs. Social welfare should provide assistance to families in need, then poor families would accept their loved ones.
