  • You might have heard me speak about the different 'types' of communication in my videos before. And if you have, you have surely heard the words 'asynchronous' and 'synchronous' being used to describe the types of communication. But why is it important to delve so deeply into communicative styles? Why is it relevant to take things to far back to basics?
Blackboat has been working with companies on improving their communication performance for many years and we notice the same problems coming up time and time again. Sometimes these problems can develop into very complex issues, if not addressed correctly, but at the core we very often find, that the type of communication used, simply wasn't appropriate or effective for it's purpose.
This video is designed to help you understand the different types of communication styles and how we can decide on the appropriate tool for the appropriate situation.

Christoph Magnussen is one of the crew members and founder at Blackboat. A digital consultancy specialized in New Work and Cloud Collaboration. He is an entrepreneur since high school. After graduating from University of St. Gallen (HSG), he co-founded a mobile phone reCommerce company which grew from 1M to 31M in revenue in less than 5 years. To scale the business, he wouldn’t just add manpower. Instead, he was obsessed with increasing individual productivity through latest online collaboration tools and new work methods.
This new digital setup triggered many requests from fellow entrepreneurs to support them in building the same environment in their companies. This is how the idea for his company Blackboat was born. A tech-focused company designed to help leaders increase team efficiency by leveraging cloud tools and fast communication. Blackboat helps you identify your requirements and choose the cloud solution that suits your needs. Additionally, we will support you in implementing these solutions such as G Suite, Office 365, Bettercloud, FireEye, Slack etc. and build a scalable setup that goes beyond the standard off-the-shelf product from these providers.
Christoph is also a keynote speaker, and he shares his experiences, thoughts, and ideas about Digital Transformation (Digitalisierung, New Work), Team Collaboration, Leading Virtual Teams, #EndOf90iesIT #OntheWaytoNewWork.

Could you share the source of the studies you mentioned about reading 4x faster than writing and speaking 2x faster than listening? It would be very useful!

What about the bottom half of the graph? How does this correspond to the ladder steps in quadrant 1 and 2?

@@christophmagnussen Thanks for your reply. In the vid at the 2min point shows; WRITE || LISTEN wanted to get some examples of how you utilize these areas in dissemination communication to the end recipient. I personally know what this entails, but wanted to see how you do write and listen in your professional career path.

Great video but I have to disagree. IMHO video and personal meeting are the most efficient. I don't know why ppl are so crazy about these new chat tools (Teams, Slack). Don't get me wrong they are great. But they far from an ideal tool for communication. They are rather great for chatting and ramblings, and quick status updates within the team.

Hey Pavel we have very simple rule: the more emotional the topic the more synchronous the channel. Just check our the video about meetings from 2017 and the one from Conor Neill and myself about the 6 Pager meeting from Amazon. Not all meetings are efficient and chat tools are super important these days...
