There's literally psychological studies on how hating groups deemed as 'acceptable targets' sooths a conservative's mind whereas proof their hated groups have... nuance, variability etc causes intense anxiety and cognitive dissonance.
OP was gay, so they hated him to sooth themselves. OP's brother became jobless, so they hated him too. If the story is real, it is at least consistent in characterising conservatives.

No huge loss honestly, like one user said the brother would of no doubt made up some story to get OP arrested if left alone with the kid.
