Lucy Arnez is fabulous. Such an underatted and underutilized actress. Never understood why she didn't get more work and bigger projects over the years.
I was from Boston and met a young woman who lived a street bordering the Brooklyn Bridge in Bay Ridge in a Fanueil Hall nightclub. I drove down to NYC with tickets to this play and watched a Saturday matinee of this play in theatre district. I had forgotten about the play but enjoyed this escapade in my younger days
The story goes that Arnaz was so heartbroken over not being nominated for a Tony that her mom Lucy took her for a carriage ride through Central Park. Watching this clip, I have to wonder what the judges were thinking.
They're Playing OUR Song (one slow chorus) is sung by Sonia and Vernon at the end of this scene at Le Club and again by the whole cast during the curtain call. The role of Sonia in the Australian production (1981-83) was played by two time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.
The lyrics are: "Who would have known That two years ago when Leon asked ‘Can’t lovin’ be fun?’ Who would have known Can’t Lovin’ Be Fun Would be sung by everybody under the sun"
Who would have known, that 2 years ago when Leon asked can lovin be fun. Who would have known, can't lovin be fun would be sung by everybody under the sun.
"Who would have known that two years ago When Leon asked, 'Can't lovin' be fun?'... Who would have known 'Can't Loving Be Fun?' Would be sung by everybody under the sun?" In case it's not totally clear, "Can't Loving Be Fun?" was the name of her hit song.
who would have known That two years ago When Leon asked "can't lovin' be fun?" Who would have known "can't lovin' be fun " would be sung by everybody under the sun!

Who would have known
Can’t Lovin’ Be Fun
Would be sung by everybody under the sun"
💯🔥
Nice to see Glenn Close in the audience enjoying this play, long blond hair right in front of camera in the last scene.
Are you sure that’s her?
@legsllybryan. Thanks, I just thought it was unusual that the actual song title was not in the lyrics.
I didn't realize Robert Klein was.a singer.

sorry didn't see the reply below. Great performance!!
@sassiestkitten1 Thank you very much, I just could not understand that section of the song.
Could someone please provide me with the full lyrics of this please.
@aflman2 In the lyrics does the title "They're playing OUR song appear anywhere? Both the characters keep singing they're playing MY song.
What are the lyrics between 3.33-3.46??
I don't think so. I think *our* is just used in the show title.
thank you!
