"Tomorrow we'll discover what our God in heaven has in store" will always be my favorite line of this song, it's ridiculously powerful and then they all join in together to sing it, it just makes me cry.
I can never watch a Les Mis on RUclips without seeing some argument break out in the comments. It says all the more about the musical that people will never stop to defend their favorite depictions of it. While I do wish I could see less arguing in the comments, it makes me smile that this is such a powerful show in that way
I just played a concert last Sunday with Michael Maguire (Enjolras, who won a Tony that night). His voice is still stunning ( and so is he) even though he is now an attorney in L.A.
It is a hit! Has been a hit in London for 27 consecutive years. It's been off and on Broadway a lot in that time too. This is the original Broadway cast at the 1987 Tony Awards. There are multiple productions around the world and a touring company around the U.S. So yes, it's been a hit for a good long time!
Yes Enrique, I agree. It takes experience in live theater to be able to appreciate moves like this. In the first place, topnotch choreographers and stage directing were hired to provide the best moves and acting for the casts of this greatest musical ever. That given, there's no point to make them look stupid on stage, it was well thought and rehearsed to fit to the song and the drama.
I love this OBC!!! I have to say, I didn't recognize them until Eponine started singing... she has a very recognizable voice that I love. And so chilling, as it rises above the ensemble of miserables with "One more day I'm on my own..." *shivers* Love love love it!
They may say that Les Mis is overrated, but I think it deserves all its recognition. I get goosebumps every time I hear all the songs on this musical like At The End Of The Day and One Day More...
I have yet to see this play live, this was the first song I ever heard from it and the first 10 seconds just blew me away. Bonechilling. omfg. I'm in love with this play.
I believe this was around 1988, when Les Mis debuted in NY. It won the Tony, along with Colm Wilkinson (Valjean) and Frances Ruffelle (Eponine). After hearing her sing On My Own in a radio ad, I got tickets right away. It was the best show I had ever seen, I laughed and cried; and saw it 3 more times. I think Colm and Frances made their roles hard acts to follow. Many others were also excellent, esp. Judy Kuhn (Cosette). I also saw Miss Saigon twice, enjoyed both; but the time with Lea Salo
I wish I could have seen Les Miserables the way it originally looked on stage. I just saw the 25th Annv. "updated" touring show, which was great, but I feel like I missed out on a piece of history. At least now I know what "One Day More" looked like. Thanks for posting.
colm wilkinson the legend who can never be beaten as vajean and lea salonga is the best person to ever play eponine my opinion of course saw colm is concert in ireland and wow i was blown away he could sing the phone book and i would still be moved by his voice :)
I have considerable vocal training, and have appeared in both musicals and operas. While she isn't my favorite voice, I think it works for the character. I've heard others that I prefer, but I believe hers works. Anyone with versatile musical training knows that the perfect, pretty voices don't always have the best impact.
Cont'd Lea Salonga owned that role, I don't think anyone else came close. I count Broadway among the best things in life, and am grateful that I live nearby, and get to see good shows regularly.
I remember the first time I heard Frances Rufelle's voice I didn't like it at all at first then as I got used to it I came to love it she has such a strong voice and it gives a youthful quality to Eponine that I love.
Frances does such a different rendition of Eponine (and that may be cuz she was one of the first to do it....) and i can really feel her emotion and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Enjolras here, his voice is so powerful and it gave me chills :D
I'm so old school, no one will replace the original Broadway cast. (I'm really getting tired of all the Frances hating! She is the original and still the best!)
I would have started clapping when Maguire came out with that fiery "One more day before the storm!" I still watch that and think "Yes! like a fuckin boss Enjolras!"
I'd have loved to have seen Wilkinson and Mann live on stage as Valjean and Javert in this original production. I'm sure they have a filmed version of it tucked away in the archives of the NY library. Maybe someday they'll give in and let it be seen.
i remember auditon for this in high school.....i did to play the In-Keeper because he was bass and funny...but ended up playing Javart and i have to admit, playing Javart was so much more fun to play than the in keeper
Tim Curry never played Rum Tum Tugger. Terrence Mann originated that role on Broadway. Curry originated Dr. Frank in 'Rocky Horror', and Mann played Frank in the Broadway revival in 2000. They once bore a vague resemblance to each other and have similar voices.
I think it's because Frances has such a different voice. Most people will either hate it or love it (kinda like Daphne Rubin-Vega, the original Mini from RENT).
Amazing!! Hard to believe but today is the first time I've seen this vid with the original B Way cast. Terrrance Mann as Javert....still Phillip Quast is the definitive Javert in my book. If I'm not mistaking I believe the gal who's Cossette here also did the role in the 10th anniversary concert. Colm Wilkinson forever!!!! Can't wait for the movie version in December!!
I happen to love Ruffelle's voice :D It's distinct :) I think she was a sweeter, softer Eponin whereas Barks and Salonga were grittier. I like them all really.
"Tomorrow we'll discover what our God in heaven has in store" will always be my favorite line of this song, it's ridiculously powerful and then they all join in together to sing it, it just makes me cry.
The emotions and singing of these people are just, goose bump making, i mean the acting is just os fabulous its nearly painful.
Frances is so gooood. Defo my favourite eponine. Has anyone noticed that Javert always gets the best cheer? Ive got to admit he is awesomeness
Frances is my idol! She is the one who gave me confidence to sing out and loud. I seem to be pretty good at it as well.
She is such a great human!
I can never watch a Les Mis on RUclips without seeing some argument break out in the comments. It says all the more about the musical that people will never stop to defend their favorite depictions of it. While I do wish I could see less arguing in the comments, it makes me smile that this is such a powerful show in that way
I love how the cutting loneliness of Eponine's "one more day on my own......." rises above the voices of all the other singers, so chilling.
I just played a concert last Sunday with Michael Maguire (Enjolras, who won a Tony that night). His voice is still stunning ( and so is he) even though he is now an attorney in L.A.
One Day More is the most touching and high energy song in Les Miserable you cant help to be happy and cry at the same time
It is a hit! Has been a hit in London for 27 consecutive years. It's been off and on Broadway a lot in that time too. This is the original Broadway cast at the 1987 Tony Awards. There are multiple productions around the world and a touring company around the U.S. So yes, it's been a hit for a good long time!
one day more is probably one of my favorite song like ever!!!
Love this original Epionine. This was great. Thanks.

Can I just say how absolutely amazing the ensemble was. At the end of the day gave me chills!!!
I love this OBC!!! I have to say, I didn't recognize them until Eponine started singing... she has a very recognizable voice that I love. And so chilling, as it rises above the ensemble of miserables with "One more day I'm on my own..." *shivers* Love love love it!
Ooh! I wish I could have seen this on TV, but alas! I was a year old when Les Mis was at the Tony Awards.
Also...Terrence Mann
And powerful. I didn't used to like like it... but the more I listened to it I started to warm up.
so mad at myself one of the most complex and well loved musicals like ever and ive never sin it is it reeli as heartbreaking as they say xx
They may say that Les Mis is overrated, but I think it deserves all its recognition. I get goosebumps every time I hear all the songs on this musical like At The End Of The Day and One Day More...
Frances is amazing. I love Sam and Lea as well, but something about her portrayel really sticks in my head.
She created it - end of!!
I love Les Mis so much. It will always have a special place in my heart. I had got chills listening to this :')
Any actor who plays Enjolras will undoubtedly give me butterflies, just something about that red vest that gives me chills
This cast on the cd is MUCH better than the movie.
God, what energy!
I genuinely don't understand how people don't like Frances Ruffelle here. She is legendary and my personal favorite eponine. She killed it here
oh my god save me when i watch the film..i might pass out from all the awesomness
this is my absolute favorite song from Les Miz. the choral is just amazing. no showy dancing and all, but them standing there, singing.
That marching is probably the most ingenious choreography ever.
Chills every time.
I just keep replaying Eponine's part...
over and over again...
so chilling!
it is my dream to play ANY role in this musical! it's such a fantastic show!
I have yet to see this play live, this was the first song I ever heard from it and the first 10 seconds just blew me away. Bonechilling. omfg. I'm in love with this play.

it's so chilling to hear the audience applaud well before the song is over.
Beautiful.
I wish I could have seen Les Miserables the way it originally looked on stage. I just saw the 25th Annv. "updated" touring show, which was great, but I feel like I missed out on a piece of history. At least now I know what "One Day More" looked like. Thanks for posting.
I was in Les Miz and the march is by far the hardest choreography ever but it is amazing
I feel like it makes them look as if they are storming down a road, metaphorically and literally. It was a great element:)
And that is how you cut an insult into pieces by using logic :) You are a genius.
Still THE best musical. Ever.
colm wilkinson the legend who can never be beaten as vajean and lea salonga is the best person to ever play eponine my opinion of course saw colm is concert in ireland and wow i was blown away he could sing the phone book and i would still be moved by his voice :)
I agree with you, Michael Maguire is my favorite Enjolras. He had the voice, the height and the looks. Props to him!
God, Michael Maguire looks young here! Amazing! One of the best Enjolrai ever!
The way Frances holds Marius here is just heartbreaking....
With any cast One Day More is still an EPIC song!
I have considerable vocal training, and have appeared in both musicals and operas. While she isn't my favorite voice, I think it works for the character. I've heard others that I prefer, but I believe hers works. Anyone with versatile musical training knows that the perfect, pretty voices don't always have the best impact.
this gives me chills
You are too funny! I am laughing out loud! I saw this at the Baltimore Symphony last night! I can't stop laughing!
A nice compilation of various scenes from Les Miserables' Broadway performances...
Love Enjolras in this performance. And the interactions with Gavroche. Heroes!
stunning job!
France's Ruffelle makes the most beautiful noises I've ever heard.
eponine's voice is perfect.
Are you kidding? The 80's were colorful and optimistic. It was a terrific time.
Frances Ruffelle's voice is the perfect mix of strength, whininess and desperation for the role. One of the best Éponines in my opinion...
Fantastic!!!!
This show seriously needs to come to Australia.
I actually love the box step. It adds color and grandiosity to the song when you're in the audience. :)
Loooooove this. Thank you for uploading! Eponine is kind of creepy at the beginning, lol.
chills man
after i figured out she was in there i did. I love her. Her and Samantha Barks are my all time favorite eponines. ^_^
Cont'd
Lea Salonga owned that role, I don't think anyone else came close.
I count Broadway among the best things in life, and am grateful that I live nearby, and get to see good shows regularly.
I'm in love with eponine...
colm wilkinson your only man...
Thanks!
Whoa, I LOVE Eponine!
Finally, someone who agrees with me. Thank you.
I remember the first time I heard Frances Rufelle's voice I didn't like it at all at first then as I got used to it I came to love it she has such a strong voice and it gives a youthful quality to Eponine that I love.
Frances does such a different rendition of Eponine (and that may be cuz she was one of the first to do it....) and i can really feel her emotion
and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Enjolras here, his voice is so powerful and it gave me chills :D
It's Michael Maguire. The same who played Enjolras in the 10th anniversary special.
I was going through tony performances and came across this one and was like why not?
I'm so old school, no one will replace the original Broadway cast. (I'm really getting tired of all the Frances hating! She is the original and still the best!)
the best...ever!!!!
I would have started clapping when Maguire came out with that fiery "One more day before the storm!" I still watch that and think "Yes! like a fuckin boss Enjolras!"
Goosebumps!
I love Eponine's voice in this :D It's so her! And Judy Kuhn FTW!
This was amazing!
Terrence Mann is awesomeness. Mann as Javert is beyond that. : )
That's the Original FRANCESS RUFFULLE and she won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in this role!
Terrance Mann - he was also the original Beast (beauty and the) and Rocky Horror for the movie.
To settle this down, they're both great... Character-wise: Frances; Vocal Performance-wise: Lea
I cannot believe Rum Tum Tugger ("Cats") and Javert are originally played by the same person!!! Terrence Mann is amazing!
That explains a lot, the Anniversary Concert is the definitive cast.
I never thought I would like another Enjolras, but this one's really good!
Thank you! Somebody understands!
Absolutely. It's a shame they didn't give cameos to more of the originals. I'm happy Colm has a part, though.
this is going to happen again this year y'all. I cannot wait!
I'd have loved to have seen Wilkinson and Mann live on stage as Valjean and Javert in this original production. I'm sure they have a filmed version of it tucked away in the archives of the NY library. Maybe someday they'll give in and let it be seen.

All I can say is: Les Miserables...
Colm Wilkinson is pure perfection
Thank God
I think it's because Frances has such a different voice. Most people will either hate it or love it (kinda like Daphne Rubin-Vega, the original Mini from RENT).
Amazing!! Hard to believe but today is the first time I've seen this vid with the original B Way cast. Terrrance Mann as Javert....still Phillip Quast is the definitive Javert in my book. they're amazing... don't really care what year they're from, they're good...
CHILLS!
Yeah, the one in the yellow dress to be super exact
I happen to love Ruffelle's voice :D It's distinct :) I think she was a sweeter, softer Eponin whereas Barks and Salonga were grittier. I like them all really.
I love this! I wish Marius could've been a little louder because he definitely got drowned out :(
Gooosebumpps..... sooo amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
