The point here is the EU have already done a Canada deal....so it cant harm the single market, customs union, or it would not have been done? The UK starts from a position where are rules and standards are either the same or exceed EU rules & standards...like Canada, we may wish to change over time (as will the EU).
      The point here is what would work better for the UK? Being subject to ECJ and who knows what future rule changes by the EU, means a WTO is preferred as it would be a level playing field compared to an EU do as your told deal.
      May I also point out that for years the EU has been printing billions to buy sovereign national debt (quantitative easing) and at some point the Euro will collapse if it continues......plus there are a number of countries that could default on their debts (Italy for example), which again could cause a massive economic shock that ALL EU countries would have to suffer.
      Being out on WTO means the EU could not change the rules to force the UK to help bail them out. Look at UK membership cost verses being a third country, which is cheaper. The down side for the EU is that tariffs will put the price of their goods above that of other countries that have trade deals with the UK.....meaning a loss of trade, unemployment etc...
      All the UK has to do, is say no to any interference with UK sovereignty......as there is nothing we need from the EU.

      @Marius Periwinkle look up the Canada deal it covers 90% plus of goods and WAS put forward by Barnier. My point exactly is that it is NOT membership of the single market or customs union.
      The EU did a deal with Canada, so it cant be bad for the EU - so why not the same for the UK? Answer the EU seeks to make the UK a vassal state unable to compete, unfortunately for you, we dont and wont sign up to being told what to do....

    • @alanedwards6491
      @alanedwards6491 4 года назад +1

      @Marius Periwinkle I'm interested in HOW you think the UK will undermine the single market?
      After all if Canada changes its rules or standards then there is a mechanism to agree with the EU or end the deal....

    • @alanedwards6491
      @alanedwards6491 4 года назад +1

      @Anthony Burke Because eventually you will see the error in your opinion.....most of us know where this is going, WTO and give it 12-24 months and we will see who is proved right, either WTO or a Canada style deal, but either way UK sovereignty first and foremost....

    • @alanedwards6491
      @alanedwards6491 4 года назад +1

      @Anthony Burke you are entitled to your opinion.....but what is Brexit? More importantly what is it that people voted for. They voted out of the EU and that includes single market, customs union, ECJ ....basically a return to a sovereign nation...
      You should also know that the EU does not have any of its demands agreed with any nation outside of the EU.
      So where does it leave the EU? It has no legal way to enforce their demands....

      He is. The figures he quotes on the Haller Institute's report are not taking the loss of business to British companies into account. That is, the 12.000 unemployed in the UK vs 400.000 unemployed in the EU are merely based on the unemployment caused in the UK because of EU businesses losing market share in the UK. He also forgets to mention that for Germany the 100.000 unemployed would have meant a 0.24% increase in unemployment. The corresponding figure for UK unemployed, in case of no deal (based on the same databases) was 950.000. But one cannot cure stupidity.
