      Luna, I think it's wonderful to have videos, but the comment are so helpful too, aren't they? I think we all learn from each other and I love that we can see how we all struggle with the same things in this creative world. I appreciate your comment and time to watch.

    What a great way to bind. It gives all the freedom you need but not the wobblyness of the binding per signature. Thanks a lot!

    I'm about to sound so cheesy but I cant help it. I've been learning from RUclips tutorials about junk journals for a year now. I have learned many things. This past week I somehow lost the spark, and the creativity that I normally have so I've been scrolling through video after video, trying to find inspiration and It actually did the opposite. Im not at all bashing anyone who creates these tutorials , today It just seemed that I found the ones who either fumble through it, talk continuously about their private lives, or dont say a word through the whole thing. Michelle, You SAVED THE DAY!!! seriously you did. You are straight to the point, explain things very well, and your voice is very calm and confident. Im so happy I found you....or maybe you found me. thank you so much!🤩🤩

      Luna, this comment is so encouraging to me and I thank you truly for sharing your thoughts with me. I am certainly not a professional video person, so I can sometimes be a bit clumsy, but I do try to encourage people because WE CAN DO THIS, and sometimes we get stuck, but it's worth it to keep trying because in that we find our style, our preferences and what we love. I've changed as I go along this journey and I find the more I try the closer I get to finding MY style, My favorite type of journals, and it's so fun! The best part is sharing it with others and chatting under these videos with others who are also finding their way. So if I was an encouragement to you, that makes me very happy and I hope you will find other things I share that give you confidence to keep creating. xo

    Love the card board series. Especially this one. I like junk journaling 2 be fun and relaxing. Too many videos with too many tools make art daunting for no reason.

      I like to craft on both sides of that spectrum… when I have energy and want to use up art materials I can be up for a challenge HOWEVER I agree sometimes the prettiest things can be simple and done with ease. Kind of like life. Thanks for the comment and watching.

    Thank you for showing how to do this no sew technique. I make signatures with a mix of art papers to take on holiday with me, so I have one ‘book’ with lots of options for using different mediums, this would be a great a way of compiling my travel sketches all together as I finish each signature.

    What a great idea, a sample book to keep samples in....very clever. I loved watching your process and its so nice to have someone who isn't so fancy pancy but just tells it like it is. It's a creative process and very freeing knowing its not perfect. The cover is so adorable, so thanks for sharing.

    • @MichelleRaeLandry
      @MichelleRaeLandry  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for watching and commenting. It is freeing to know that things don't need to be perfect to be exactly what we need. The process is as much why we do it as what the end product is so enjoying that aspect is good for our mind and soul!!!

    Thank you, this is so much easier and faster than the awl-and-sew method. I liked your perfectionist moment, too. Not everything has to be perfect, but there are times we want things to look "finished". Also glad I have a chance to use up my stash of crochet thread... I don't crochet 😂

    I made my first junk journal after finding you last night! This tutorial is so easy to follow! Thanks so much for being easy to understand and not worrying about perfectionism. It makes it easier for beginners to not worry so much about making mistakes. My first journal turned out great! I’m excited to follow along and learn more. On a side note, I bought a sewing machine a couple years ago and used it twice. I do not know much about sewing but my adhd brain said I needed it. Do you have videos showing the sewing machine processes you use for making journals or just any sewing tutorials? I feel like I would understand your teaching style more than some other videos I’ve watched!

    I like this binding method. I've got a mac and cheese box waiting in my kitchen. I don't have a lot of pretty papers, but I've got plain printer paper, graph and binder paper. And I could cover it with brown paper bag. Or even glue on bits of old phone book
    Some cracker boxes hinge open at the bottom. I guess if i want a landscape journal... I think maybe it was Wheat Thins?

    • @MichelleRaeLandry
      @MichelleRaeLandry  Год назад +2

      The best junk journals are made of simple papers. You can try coffee dying or avocado dying some of those simple papers just to add variety. Some other things that are great to cover the book with if you don't have pretty paper is recycling Paper Gift bags (often those have pretty patterns), wrapping paper, even magazine images. I think using what you have is so creative and satisfying. Best of luck to you!

    Thank you for the no sew journal tutorial! So easy, and perfect for the 'idea' book! I really love the way a no sew looks, with the gathered threads, and button. I've only made one journal, so far, and had the worlds worst time getting the sewn in signatures to come out even. Some were too far up on the spine and some too far down. I had to resew them three times over, to get them all right! Was so frustrating, but I did keep at it! Yay me! Finally got them even! I just made a book out of a mac n cheese box, and covered it with faux leather. Thinking I'll try this no sew method on this one. Thank you so much for sharing! I think this will be an 'idea book', like yours, so my samples won't get lost all the time.

      Lizzy, I confess, I HATE sewing in signatures because I can never get them like I want. I'm not that good at it, but I LOVE no sew bindings because I can easily fix anything I don't like, I can put paper in and out AND I love how it looks too! Thank you for watching, commenting and being part of the creative paper community! xo

    Thank you so much for this series. I attempted a smaller 1st junk journal and stopped because I got overwhelmed because my cover buckled and I chose way too many pages for my signatures. I love this simple binding method. I'm going to reduce my signatures down to 4 with 10 sheets each. And I'll also add a pretty button and some bling as well. Subscribed! 😊

    • @MichelleRaeLandry
      @MichelleRaeLandry  Год назад +2

      It’s so easy to get overwhelmed at first… we want to do “all the things” right? In the end a simple start will set you up for success. I tend to now adapt this simple spine to most of my books. Details make a Junk Journal shine… not complex bindings. I hope this goes well for you! Happy Crafting. PS- at first I made my signatures too thick and too few… it’s amazing how increasing the number of signatures but decreasing the page count in each one makes a journal look so balanced and even.

Thank you so much for you lovely comment.

    I absolutely love this cracker box journal!!! I am going to attempt one soon! I like to use material on my journals. Have you tried a box with material yet? If so, did it work well? Thank you for your channel!!

      Hi Tina! YES I've used cloth on the journal cover. Adhesive is the trickiest part as you don't want the glue to show, so I've used double sided tape and that worked well as well as light glue stick. I wish you the best of luck and I hope your journal comes out great!

    I love your videos, what kind of glue sticks do you use?

    • @MichelleRaeLandry

      Hi Veronica, I like the large Avery glue sticks because they go on smooth, but they are washable so I usually only use them when I'm using other glue as well. Otherwise I use the Scotch permanent sticks. They are about $12 for an 18 pack on Amazon. I bought the UHU once and I found that not only were they expensive but I didn't like how they applied and I wasn't impressed by them. I know they are popular but honestly I'm pretty happy with the two brands I use. Thanks for the question.

    This is so helpful thank you! Could I just ask how many sheets of paper you usually use per signature? Thank you 😊

    • @MichelleRaeLandry
      @MichelleRaeLandry  2 года назад +1

      AmyMaise I'm glad it was helpful. Page counts in my signatures vary, however I notice I average between 8-10 generally. It depends on the measurements of the book and the thickness of the paper. When I started out I used too many pages in my signatures and realized that a book looks better, and the pages flip easier with more signatures that have fewer pages. Books with 4 signatures with 8 sheets each look nicer in the end then books with 2 signatures that have 15 pages in each signature. When there are too many pages the pages don't line up right, need a lot of trimming and get bulky way too fast. I hope that makes sense. I'm not sure there is a firm answer on page count but as you go you will definitely find a count that you prefer. Thanks for the question.

    I can see that this video is 2 years old, but WHY did you never fix the blown-out LIGHTING?! The algorithm is still bringing the video up, so shouldn’t you still care that it is in-watchable?! I’ve never seen anything this bad before!

    • @MichelleRaeLandry
      @MichelleRaeLandry  5 месяцев назад

      Nan, realize this video has some problems, and I’m sorry, unfortunately I can’t fix the lighting in this video or I would have, Most people have still been able to find some value in this offering so I left it up. I recently made a new video that repeats the binding process in this video so those people who found this video unwatchable could get a re-do on the process- it’s my botanical ink skinny journal. I hope this will give you another option to watch and to be assured that the majority of my videos are watchable. 😅. It takes me hours and hours to make a video, no one is more disappointed to find out there’s a problem than me…. But I’m human so sometimes I have a mistake or issue. I’m just a regular person making free content to share.
