You know you are addicted when you spend your time when you are grocery shopping looking at the boxes for their size and quality, and not the contents🤣🤣🤣
This is such a quick, simple way to make junk journal. Thanks to this video, I was able to make a mini junk journal out of a spaghetti box in about an hour!
Oh Mel... this kind of comment is exactly why I want to make videos, to encourage people. YOU CAN DO IT! I know you can. I used to teach these kinds of classes in person (prior to the pandemic shutdown) too mostly adult women. What I saw was how people got stuck in their perfectionism, their need to create "pinterest" worthy projects. So much is expected of us that we forget to just play. I understand this because internally I am that perfectionist too. I have had that "if I can't do it well I can't do it" attitude... until I found journal making. The beauty of Junk Journals is that we can make something just for us, that is perfectly imperfect using what we have. I hope that you can continue your journey and allow yourself to make things that fill your heart, are full of pretty papers and things you pick up along the way and that you grow in your confidence. I believe in you!
Love this tutorial! I make journals out of all kinds of packages. I find myself shopping and buying things I don’t need or will even eat just because of the packaging 😂 I try not to be a hoarder and keep EVERY BOX or package that comes into my life.. BUT ITS HARD😂 .. especially when you see everything as what it could become… from ordinary to extraordinary ❤
I'm so glad my video calmed your nerves but more importantly I hope it gave you confidence! This process should be fun, & if we don't get too caught up in our expectations of being perfect it usually comes out even better. Best of luck!
Its the gathering of boxes ive have tons have not made a journal for awhile. Must get into it again i started journalling cos of covid an come across pam at the paper outpost lives in florida shes awesome im 70 this year an been in out hospital everything is fine go back in six weeks time take ou4 my app3ndix, i have a habit of put4ing nos among my writing 😆 🤣 it just happens, well love your tutorial kk ❤ from nz rotorua hi. So organized have awesome day
Great project! Thanks for showing us how to create a good project cover for our journals. I like to use the cover boxes from the Dove candy bars. They are just the right size for tags, bookmarks, pocket pouches, etc. They can fit inside larger journals or just be a nice stand alone project for a gift. Take care.🙂
Thanks for the kind words and the tip. I've never looked at Dove bars but you bet I will now! I love using packaging because 1. Its FREE....2. Less waste! I appreciate you watching and sharing something you enjoy using!
I just found your website while I was looking for videos on how to use boxes to make journals. I am SO excited to find your series on this subject! I am looking forward to your other videos!!!!!!
Welcome Welecome to my channel and thanks for watching and commenting. I hope that you find the series helpful and I'm so very glad you are here! Best of luck with your journal!
Hello, I just got done watching all of the videos in the box journal Playlist. I loved every one of them! All other box videos I've seen tells u too double the cardboard. It's great to see these videos since I'm so new to journal making.
Amy, thank you so much for watching and commenting. Everybody will have their own way of doing some thing and we all have our preferences if I was making a journal that I knew had to withstand a lot of use I might consider doubling the cardboard. However, I have yet to have a problem with you using a box as is I like that it’s flexible and it’s plenty sturdy for an art journal or a basic junk journal. I hope you have fun creating your own.
Thanks for sharing how to make a journal. I've got several journals all ready to sew in the signatures. I am moving and will get them done after i get setteled.
I was just searching for cardboard box junk journals and I saw you using a Market Basket box. I’m originally from MA. Demoulas/Market Basket is a glimpse of home. I even grew up down the street from some Landry’s. Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing! ❤😊
Hi im a complete beginner not got a clue where to start. Then came across yr video. Cant wait to get started. Love yr video. Subscribed and following you 😀
Hi Coco! So nice to hear from you…. I hope this series will be fun & funny! 😃 ( I’m sure I’ll do a few things that will make me laugh at myself) hugs back!
How do you alter the Box if you're only making a single signature, but it's too thick just to use cardstock cover.. what do you do with a second seam of the spine of a box since they all would be too wide if I only need a quarter or half inch spine? Would I need to cut the spine out of the box, cut to size and somehow tape it back into the front and back pieces?
You are not alone in asking this. I think there are a few ways to approach it… but I would cut the spine side directly in half and then stack them on top of each other and glue them with a good glue. This would make a strong spine and you wouldn’t lose the hinge of the front and back cover.
Hi Carla… if I had o it a single signature this would be my choices. 1. Take a cardboard box ( like a Mac n cheese box for instance) and cut the spine side down the middle and then glue one half on top of the other. That will cut the spine size in half AND make the spine stronger. 2. I’d use the front cover as is, score the spine to the thickness I want and then fold it so the old crease is on the back cubed. ( you will be covering it so it doesn’t matter much) and then trim the back cover to be even with the front. 3. Find a box with a super thin width…so the spine is very thin…look around the grocery slide. Maybe dryer sheets, ready cooked bacon, sometimes packaging inside boxes have off sizes. I hope these choices made sense.
I found a lot of stuff around my house that I can use to make my journal, accept for the eyelets for the spine that I see other people use and that eyelet pliers. CAn I use yarn to hold the pages to the spine? Or is there a certain type of string to use for the pages and the spine?
Hi Misty, sorry for the delay in commenting back. I always encourage using things you already have. You can really use anything for the binding, however anything that will stretch out over time will make for a loose binding, so I guess it depends how stretchy the yarn is. I don't know much about yarn - but I'm sure there are some that are stronger and stiffer than others. I like using elastic, that will give when I need to put in signatures but spring back to shape once the pages are in. I also like bakers twine. Really though it is your preference. As far as eyelets, I find that Hobby lobby has the Paper Studio brand on sale once a month, so you can find them pretty inexpensively. I have also found inexpensive eyelets and basic setters in the sewing section of many craft stores as well. Good luck and happy crafting!

Hi Peggy, I usually do use pieces I cut off to measure, but who knows why I didn't this time. When I'm filming it's hard to think about my words, my placement of items etc. and I'll admit I make some silly mistakes. If you continue to watch me I'm sure you'll shake your head more than a few times. LOL. Thanks for watching.
I do these journals, too. My son now gives me boxes from his food and says, "Here's another book" 😂
I envy people who can cut a straight line without measuring. Great tutorial! Thank you.
I do too… believe me when I tell you I can’t cut a straight line most days….perfectly imperfect is what I say. 😉
You know you are addicted when you spend your time when you are grocery shopping looking at the boxes for their size and quality, and not the contents🤣🤣🤣

Thank you Victoria for such a kind comment that really means a lot to me. I wish you fun and success with your journal making!
You can use the piece you cut off as a template rather than measure.. just a thought 🦋

I've glued 2 boxes together to make it stronger
Great idea! I appreciate your input and sharing your idea.

If you place the paper towards the edge of the box prior to cutting then you would only need to cut two sides instead of 3… just helping hun xx xx
My dt has plain gift boxes sold in packs of four. Consodering getting some
Sounds like a fun box to try, I love hunting for new boxes for journals! Thanks for watching!

Hi. I was wondering how you did the leather latch on the small journal.
I simply attached the leather with fabric-tac glue and it’s been fine.
Thanks for the question.

Thanks!
What would you do with the spine if you only had a single signature, but still wanted the support of the cardboard cover?
