I went to see these guys in Bratislava, they were performing at the church. I was standing there on the inner balcony. You could feel the vibration... and joy. Powerful and unforgettable experience.
Years ago I went to Alaska, and went to a performance by the Inuit indigenous people. I had the same feeling as you had. The joy, the energy were powerful too, and so uplifting.

I found this video over a year ago at a time when my life was going through a major transition. I was going to be a father, and at the time, I had no idea what to expect.. I can remember the first time I heard Odugen Taiga. This whole set was transformative, but that song in particular has stuck with me. To me, it conveyed a sense of place in the universe.. being rooted in a tradition.. existing in harmony with nature, and I thought to myself, "This is the world I want to share with my son."
My wife is due with our first child any day now and I am going through the exact same thing. This music is soothing my anxiety and making me feel that maybe the world will be okay. Thank you for sharing.

The first time i heard Tuvan music was when I saw a documentary of the blues singer Paul Penja, called Tuva farewell. Her listened to the radio and heard this music after his wife died and then became a first class throat singer himself even traveling to Tuva and competing and winning a singing gig competition. Fantastic film.
This is culturally significant to all of humanity. I know nothing about these people, where they come from, what they do, how they live but at the same time I cannot help but feel completely and entirely connected to them. Its beautiful.

WOW! Odugen Taiga is one of those soul elevating songs. It takes me somewhere calm and relaxing that I can’t get often anywhere else. A dream, a faded nostalgic memory, a past life/reincarnation? Who knows, but I feel like I’m on a tranquil hilltop overlooking a valley, forest, and lake looking up at the stars with the love of my life whenever I listen to this. Having all of the things I need in one place. Such a unique feeling.

I totally see the sunrise perspective, however, for some reason, I get heavy images of dusk and eventide, with the sunset turning into the dark greens, blues, and purples as the stars come out. It makes more sense that birds are awake in the morning, but I just see myself relaxing on a hill of grass at the end of a long but fulfilling day of work.

OK, I don't know how they do it, but this music sounds the way it feels to ride a horse, especially a long distance on an open plain. I say this having done this. When I was a kid, we lived in the high plains of the United States, in the part of Oklahoma that was once called the Cimmaron Strip. There isn't much out there except an endless plain of grass and the sky so huge and blue overhead that it seems like everything. When it was just me and the horse, I'd almost believe that I could ride forever, and that powerful animal loping along underneath me made me feel more connected to the earth and to all living things than I can ever possibly explain. Then I grew up and moved to the city. Nothing has been the same since.

I heard their song 'Ougen Tiaga' live over 15 years ago in a small theater in Montana, it brought tears to my eyes then and it still brings tears to my eyes today. Something very ancient flows through these men...I swear I was transported to a different time and place that night a long time ago. No other group has been able to do that to me that since then.
It's amazing the direct and explicit link there is between folk music and the culture they come from. Mongols relied on horses for most of their daily activities, and you can see how that translates as a recurrent topic in the songs hereby. Folk music is amazing, and it is a must for anyone that wants to understand the worldviews from ancient cultures. I loved this group, and this performance was more than amazing.
Tuvan music contains more about reindeers and the taiga than horses because they are traditionally taiga nomads not steppe nomads like Mongols but yes your point holds true. One of my favorite Tuvan song is called The Reindeer Herder's Song by Alash Ensemble you should check it out.

This music speaks to my ancestral soul. As an Apache, I only found out recently that there is linguistic evidence to show that the Athabaskan peoples of the Americas share much with the Ket people, a tuvan group. No wonder this music sounds so familiar to my soul, the sound of the ancestors to my ancestors.
I had the a similar thought a minute ago. I'm Western European, my ancestors have been here where I live for at least a thousand years so my situation is totally different from yours, but I have been to the USA and Canada, and heard and saw peoples of the First Nations sing and dance in their traditional way, and when I heard these four men sing and play it struck me how many similarities there are. It sounds so old and so connected to their land and their history.
"Chayra khoor" in Persian is "Chara khor" it means something that likes to eat grass. We usually use it Herds. It is intresting if the band is Mongolian these words have been come to Persian by Mongolians.
The music is foundational beautiful...their historical war no less or more righteous than anyone else's. Humans now need cultural peace and to defend our societal and share cultural peace. We should share every peaceful way of communicating from now on. No more war. No more fighting. No more exploitation. Just love

Makes me sense the horses and the horsemen on the far stretching grasslands of Mongolia and the rocky cold hills around, where the Huns know the earth and know the philosophy that only it's rooted culture can bring to it. It's so beautiful this deeply earthy folk music.

Saw Hunn-Huur-Tu a few years ago. They produce such a wonderful sound. One of the guys created a certain kind of whistle sound that doesn't seem to come across when you watch a video. Fantastic band
To add a bit more info for you… it is also sometimes referred to as ‘overtone singing’ and many other cultures around the world perform this type of singing from The Inuit in North America, the Xhosa in South Africa, China and many other places. It is beautiful, isn’t it?

Hence the term "throat singing" you use here is not defined clearly, i cannot disprove your claim entirely but "throat singing or more original term - huumii" used here in this video is very unique to this region aka Mongolia and Tuva and Altai Mountain and it is also safe to call this "Mongolian" by following reasons: Tuva and Altain mountain has been part of Mongolia since the dawn of time until russia annexed it around 1930 circa. No other region of world has this singing style called "huumii" here. All of the mentioned place plus many other culture around world have one form of throat singing at best whereas throat singing has couple of distinct styles you cannot find it elsewhere that's why it is called this type of singing is unique to this region(In this video, they uses 2 styles at most). If you have other opinion please prove this with visual and sound proof. I'll give you one example, people from china or tibet or elsewhere claims that throat singing is from china. Well, technically, it is true if we include the Mongols who lives in Inner Mongolian autonomous provinence of china, hence it was annexed by china, and tibetan chanting monks which i believe many people familiar with. Even tibetan monk chanting is influenced directly by mongolian throat singing hence historically speaking, Mongols and Tibet had a extensive cultural, economical and military relationship in the past. For that reason, soveireign state called Mongolia now is the largest followers of tibetan sect of buddhism called yellow hat which is sect headed by Dalai lama in the world. Even word Dalai lama is Mongolian word and was given by Mongolian warlord back in the day. Also, this type of chanting or singing is only practiced by monks in tibet not ordinary people, whereas throat singing is practiced by ordinary people mostly and that's why throat singing has richer in styles and techniques not monotone like monks.
I was so lucky to be a part of their concert in Trondheim, Norway. Fantastic experience! So humble and respectful in their approach to music and people! That said, I do enjoy the old, slower version of Odugen Taiga more. Still one of the best concerts I have attended!

I had travelled in Tuva to the Throat singing festival in Emay 15 or so years ago, and met these folks there. They are truly soulful people! It was wonderful.

I could hear and see nature so clearly and the first one riding the horse, I went from detached listening, to actually being on that horse and I could feel how much they love their horses. I then found them on Spotify and listened for an hour in an other worldly state of relaxation. Thank you!

It feels like nature made into poetry and music. And the deep throat singing makes the pain and suffering into harmony, and brings forth some sort of sweet sadness that heals the soul. The first time i heard Tuvan music was when I saw a documentary of the blues singer Paul Penja, called Tuva farewell. Her listened to the radio and heard this music after his wife died and then became a first class throat singer himself even traveling to Tuva and competing and winning a singing gig competition. Fantastic film.
This is culturally significant to all of humanity. I know nothing about these people, where they come from, what they do, how they live but at the same time I cannot help but feel completely and entirely connected to them. Its beautiful.

WOW! Odugen Taiga is one of those soul elevating songs. It takes me somewhere calm and relaxing that I can’t get often anywhere else. A dream, a faded nostalgic memory, a past life/reincarnation? Who knows, but I feel like I’m on a tranquil hilltop overlooking a valley, forest, and lake looking up at the stars with the love of my life whenever I listen to this. Having all of the things I need in one place. Such a unique feeling.
This song evoked such strong images of landscapes at sunrise for me. The bird song especially! Beautiful!

I totally see the sunrise perspective, however, for some reason, I get heavy images of dusk and eventide, with the sunset turning into the dark greens, blues, and purples as the stars come out. It makes more sense that birds are awake in the morning, but I just see myself relaxing on a hill of grass at the end of a long but fulfilling day of work.

OK, I don't know how they do it, but this music sounds the way it feels to ride a horse, especially a long distance on an open plain. I say this having done this. When I was a kid, we lived in the high plains of the United States, in the part of Oklahoma that was once called the Cimmaron Strip. There isn't much out there except an endless plain of grass and the sky so huge and blue overhead that it seems like everything. When it was just me and the horse, I'd almost believe that I could ride forever, and that powerful animal loping along underneath me made me feel more connected to the earth and to all living things than I can ever possibly explain. Then I grew up and moved to the city. Nothing has been the same since.

I heard their song 'Ougen Tiaga' live over 15 years ago in a small theater in Montana, it brought tears to my eyes then and it still brings tears to my eyes today. Something very ancient flows through these men...I swear I was transported to a different time and place that night a long time ago. No other group has been able to do that to me that since then.

It's amazing the direct and explicit link there is between folk music and the culture they come from. Mongols relied on horses for most of their daily activities, and you can see how that translates as a recurrent topic in the songs hereby. Folk music is amazing, and it is a must for anyone that wants to understand the worldviews from ancient cultures. I loved this group, and this performance was more than amazing.
Tuvan music contains more about reindeers and the taiga than horses because they are traditionally taiga nomads not steppe nomads like Mongols but yes your point holds true. One of my favorite Tuvan song is called The Reindeer Herder's Song by Alash Ensemble you should check it out.

Cant remember my first kexp video but ever since im hooked. Tinawiren and then huun hur tu. Both band i already knew them but seeing them on kexp is just a blessing. There is so much more to offer and they host gems that just blows your mind.

This music speaks to my ancestral soul. As an Apache, I only found out recently that there is linguistic evidence to show that the Athabaskan peoples of the Americas share much with the Ket people, a tuvan group. No wonder this music sounds so familiar to my soul, the sound of the ancestors to my ancestors.

I had the a similar thought a minute ago. I'm Western European, my ancestors have been here where I live for at least a thousand years so my situation is totally different from yours, but I have been to the USA and Canada, and heard and saw peoples of the First Nations sing and dance in their traditional way, and when I heard these four men sing and play it struck me how many similarities there are. It sounds so old and so connected to their land and their history.
It all comes back to the common source

"Chayra khoor" in Persian is "Chara khor" it means something that likes to eat grass. We usually use it Herds. It is intresting if the band is Mongolian these words have been come to Persian by Mongolians.

At about 29:00 in when their voices and instruments started mimicking/portraying their homeland and their lifestyle, knowing this was the song they said described the beginning of their culture, their people, their land and language, is when I started crying. I've loved your music for many years. I wrote to you, and you wrote back. You are so gracious! My ancestors were Mongolian. Never could figure out why we love horses so much and ride so well, like we were born on the horse. Now I know it is my honorable Mongolian heritage! Saw Hunn-Huur-Tu a few years ago. They produce such a wonderful sound. One of the guys created a certain kind of whistle sound that doesn't seem to come across when you watch a video. Fantastic band
The whistling sound is usually called “Mongolian throat singing”. They train themselves to sing more than one musical note at a time. Amazing skill!

To add a bit more info for you… it is also sometimes referred to as ‘overtone singing’ and many other cultures around the world perform this type of singing from The Inuit in North America, the Xhosa in South Africa, China and many other places. It is beautiful, isn’t it?

Hence the term "throat singing" you use here is not defined clearly, i cannot disprove your claim entirely but "throat singing or more original term - huumii" used here in this video is very unique to this region aka Mongolia and Tuva and Altai Mountain and it is also safe to call this "Mongolian" by following reasons: Tuva and Altain mountain has been part of Mongolia since the dawn of time until russia annexed it around 1930 circa. No other region of world has this singing style called "huumii" here. All of the mentioned place plus many other culture around world have one form of throat singing at best whereas throat singing has couple of distinct styles you cannot find it elsewhere that's why it is called this type of singing is unique to this region(In this video, they uses 2 styles at most). If you have other opinion please prove this with visual and sound proof. I'll give you one example, people from china or tibet or elsewhere claims that throat singing is from china. Well, technically, it is true if we include the Mongols who lives in Inner Mongolian autonomous provinence of china, hence it was annexed by china, and tibetan chanting monks which i believe many people familiar with. Even tibetan monk chanting is influenced directly by mongolian throat singing hence historically speaking, Mongols and Tibet had a extensive cultural, economical and military relationship in the past. For that reason, soveireign state called Mongolia now is the largest followers of tibetan sect of buddhism called yellow hat which is sect headed by Dalai lama in the world. Even word Dalai lama is Mongolian word and was given by Mongolian warlord back in the day. Also, this type of chanting or singing is only practiced by monks in tibet not ordinary people, whereas throat singing is practiced by ordinary people mostly and that's why throat singing has richer in styles and techniques not monotone like monks.
I was so lucky to be a part of their concert in Trondheim, Norway. Fantastic experience! So humble and respectful in their approach to music and people! That said, I do enjoy the old, slower version of Odugen Taiga more. Still one of the best concerts I have attended!

I had travelled in Tuva to the Throat singing festival in Emay 15 or so years ago, and met these folks there. They are truly soulful people! It was wonderful.

This music was so beautiful I was in tears. OMG! I could hear and see nature so clearly and the first one riding the horse, I went from detached listening, to actually being on that horse and I could feel how much they love their horses. I then found them on Spotify and listened for an hour in an other worldly state of relaxation. Thank you!

It feels like nature made into poetry and music. And the deep throat singing makes the pain and suffering into harmony, and brings forth some sort of sweet sadness that heals the soul. Living in a culture far from this doesnt seems to take away any power from the music, because there is something universal about it. Thank you very much

Трижды бывал на их живом выступлении, каждый раз - невероятные впечатления. Голоса и звуки из сердца Тувы, дыхание самой матушки Земли. Обожаю "Хуун Хуур Ту"!
