In principle I'm all for peoples' self-determination, an independent Azawad for Berbers, Moors Songhai etc., but I bet Islamic extremist rule wasn't and isn't any better for most people than rule from Bamako. Many extremists are foreign, if I understand that correctly, but domestic relations and visions for an independent state in Azawad still don't seem all that clear and settled. So I guess even ignoring foreign reluctance to accept the striving, there are some significant practical odds against a peaceful independent Azawad. Anyway, I hope people there can find a humane solution, and that the global community will eventually support their legitimate causes for self-determination, I guess this music will help a lot! Peace, bless you and all secular folks in Azawad!

"In 1980, Libyan ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi put out a decree inviting all young Tuareg men who were living illegally in Libya to receive full military training. Gaddafi dreamed of forming a Saharan regiment, made up of the best young Tuareg fighters, to further his territorial ambitions in Chad, Niger, and elsewhere. Ag Alhabib and his bandmates answered the call and received nine months of training. They answered a similar call in 1985, this time by leaders of the Tuareg rebel movement in Libya, and met fellow musicians Keddou Ag Ossade, Mohammed Ag Itlale (aka "Japonais"), Sweiloum, Abouhadid, and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni. All sang and played guitar in various permutations. The musicians joined together in a collective (now known as Tinariwen) in order to create songs about the issues facing the Tuareg people, built a makeshift studio, and vowed to record music for free for anyone who supplied a blank cassette tape. The resulting homemade cassettes were traded widely throughout the Sahara region." -Via en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinariwen
This is the best thing I’ve listened to in like five years, and it’s totally uncorrupted by western posturing or trends. Music should embody this depth of feeling and tradition in order to last.
Is it me only, or anyone else cannot help thinking of JJ Cale listening to this? Definitely an affinity when you listen to the guitar lines and rhythm.
Freedom fighters with guitars, drums & poetry. To Northern Mali what Dahka Brahka is to the Ukraine. Taking the root folk music & bringing it forth in a new & brilliant way. Love it.
Normally the RUclips algorithm is shit...but every once in a while, it shows me a totally completely unexpected gem. Now I'm going to have to listen to this for the rest of the week on repeat
You may hear these sounds while you are in the Sahara Desert (sud algeria north mali and tchad), and you may see lights in the distance...do not go, it is very dangerous, you may get lost there.
I had to subscribe to this station after the first two videos I watched from them were excellent bands that are more or less out of nowhere from where I am. By that, I mean they are introducing us to bands/people that you'd never hear of unless you are seeking it. We have a local radio station here 90.1 FM KFAI from Minnesota that runs programs which showcase people like this. I LOVE this. SO MUCH!

I have no idea what these funky guys are singing about but the music is great. That's what is good about music, it surpasses boundaries and welcomes all. Thanks!
Yeah, is more or less what Eyadou Ag Leche said too when the interviewer asked him how he unites the contrast between where the music comes from with playing for large audiences all over the world. It is not about the differences or about commerce, but about what people are looking for and what unites them, about humanity. The music is the same, too, wherever it gets played. It remains pure.

Im looking forward to visiting it once again in my life. Lots of love from an argentinian
@María Maroni A donde fuiste, a Merzouga? Er Rachidía?
@@yuccatree4298 Sí, fui a Merzouga!
Hello, warm greetings from Algerian desert
@@adambouzidi1833 Than you! Best wishes for you too! I would love to visit Algeria one day
So You also had to witness very dirty - full of thrash and plastic garbage towns in the middle ot this beautiful place. Morocco is full of contradistinctions.
Por sonidos como estos es que AMO KEXP, saludos desde México !!!
This music is so beautiful. I have no idea what they are saying but the melodies make my heart happy. Bless RUclips algorithms for introducing me to this band. Bless you KEXP for bringing world music to my world.
i am a phd student in geography and good music, this is ridicilousness, truly the number 1 music group band in the academic field. Keep on going
i just remembered my friend loeka comes also, the party is going
tinariwen my favorite band since ever love Algeria 😍😍 and I'm proud being Algerian ❤❤
Just love their unique rhythm and that bass is just spectacular. I've listened to all of their albums, love it!
It's official: This Tuareg music is the best I've ever heard by miles and miles. Wow.......
Love the ability of this channel to bring all the musicians spread over the globe together.
'Wittgenstein was a beery Swine who was just as schloshed as Schlegel' 😁😉
Wonderful. Make Music Not War....this group is shining the light and breaking down barriers.
to "Tinariwen" themselves..I really hope you will find your peace, your land, and your Tuareg way of living wherever you are in Africa, and I really hope Africa as entity will find its peace among all the nations and tribes inside and get united no matter of the differences, Humanity began from Africa and you are the world only hope right now as majority of the world is completely rotten, and the future changes for better world, will start in Africa, the most neglected and abused continent by the rest of the world.
I wish you a lots of strength, greetings from Macedonia
this is why i love music , the groove is universal
Algeria music
these guys are phenomenal. read into their backstory if you are unfamiliar with it. it is truly an amazing story... putting down their guns and picking up their instruments. thanks for a new tinariwen performance KEXP. much appreciated! :0)
They weren't a fighters brother, they are Touareg they didn't have any troubles or get into any war, they are from Algeria, well most of them
@@mohamedhamrat9793 any Touareg rebellions?
The resulting homemade cassettes were traded widely throughout the Sahara region."

Ben Weeks thanks for that, love them that much more!! 👌🏻👍🏻
excuse me, have you got any links about their story?
This is the best thing I’ve listened to in like five years, and it’s totally uncorrupted by western posturing or trends. Music should embody this depth of feeling and tradition in order to last.
? there's a lot of blues influence in this my guy.
@@mattman20132 Facts. It´s a good thing tho. All love
great band ! had the opportunity to listen to them last year in Ecuador
Is it me only, or anyone else cannot help thinking of JJ Cale listening to this? Definitely an affinity when you listen to the guitar lines and rhythm.
Cristina Navazo-Eguia Newton that's a great spot, I totally hear it now that you mention it.
the effortlessness and subtle guitar licks!
+1 on that, came here to say exactly this!
I had the same idea, J.J. Cale in the Sahara and Sahel?
well JJ lived in Escondido, it is kind of a desert too... :P
Their music picks you up, carries you away into the cosmos, and wraps your soul in peace.
Freedom fighters with guitars, drums & poetry. To Northern Mali what Dahka Brahka is to the Ukraine. Taking the root folk music & bringing it forth in a new & brilliant way. Love it.
Steve Garbarini yes!!!!
Steve Garbarini I'm going to quote you on FB and pass this along. wonderfully stated. thank you.
They are at the wrong shit hole.. once they seen the real world.. fuck the music!
What you say 👍
This was a dope band to wake up this morning to.
MarutoFighter same, im in the Sahara now
Absolutely bonkers to me that the guitarist and bassist both learned to play their instruments upside down!! Simply amazing!
I fuck with it, the song structure, and overall timbres these guys have is wavy asf. Will be coming back to this one.
These guys are so cool, music breaks all barriers.
Normally the RUclips algorithm is shit...but every once in a while, it shows me a totally completely unexpected gem. Now I'm going to have to listen to this for the rest of the week on repeat
The lead singer is such an amazing guitar player wow. Love this music
Had the pleasure of seeing them in Glasgow this past April, such an awesome show.
Imagine riding your bike and hearing this in the distance. Following the sound and arriving at a free outdoor concert. Blew my mind.
You may hear these sounds while you are in the Sahara Desert (sud algeria north mali and tchad), and you may see lights in the distance...do not go, it is very dangerous, you may get lost there.
Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you guys got Tinariwen to play! Thank you so much, KEXP.
wow wow wow wow in love with that sound. It's beautiful to ear and to watch. Merci pour la découverte

SO MUCH!
My love what wonderful music, my love, do not close your heart, that the world is full of this wonders.
Saudações da Amazônia brasileira. Estou encantado com esse som do deserto, musica tuareg que com sua beleza melódica une todos os povos. Viva os povos nomades, viva os povos originarios de todo o planeta.
🇧🇷
Why am I listening to this music over and over?? Because it keeps playing in my head when I'm sleeping.
I saw these live in Denmark in 2017 knowing absolutely nothing about them and was totally blown away by them. All around the world there is still amazing timeless music being created, it's just a matter of stumbling upon it!
I became a FAN after the first 43 seconds of this music..... AWESOME BAND. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴👏
This is lovely...their material just keeps getting better and better.
THIS BLEW MY MIND IT JUST DESTROYED IT MAN SO AMAZING SOOOOOOOOOOO AMAZING Greetings from peru

Saw them live in Oct 2019, Vancouver BC
An audio visual treat beyond words
They sound exactly the same as studio, kudos to their sound and light team
Post the show they were humble enough to meet fans, sign autographs and even sit at the merch booth
Do not miss them if there's a show near you!
I'm going to see them tomorrow night in Berkeley! Looking forward to it.
I have no idea what these funky guys are singing about but the music is great. That's what is good about music, it surpasses boundaries and welcomes all. Thanks!
They are singing a bout Sahara and touareg(blue man),freedom.
Love how this music makes you feel High without the drugs. Reminds me a lot of The Doors "The End " song.

A lot of people don't know but the doors used to go to Morocco. Who knows it influenced their music. ;)
My dad showed me these guys in 2010 or so, been in love with them and toureg rock in general. Insane originality and blend of cultures.
music is the humanity connection
Absolutely 100%! How can you now feel this? It makes he body and soul feel great
The instruments are made from animals and vegetation so its Earthy connection
nah dyde
Yeah, is more or less what Eyadou Ag Leche said too when the interviewer asked him how he unites the contrast between where the music comes from with playing for large audiences all over the world. It is not about the differences or about commerce, but about what people are looking for and what unites them, about humanity. The music is the same, too, wherever it gets played. It remains pure.
Exactly! This music speaks to the soul!
