I've now heard three symphonies by Boris Tchaikovsky, each of which possesses a remarkably different character from the others, but they are all strong, rewarding works with interesting things to say. The striking melodic contour of the First Symphony's opening theme is immediately engaging. The third movement's strident, tense nature seems to indicate a programmatic intent. It's in any case a very enjoyable work (and so are the clever graphics).

My thoughts exactly - the opening theme of the First Symphony is neither-nor, in-between, elusive in a way - but nevertheless beautiful.
Boris Tchaikovsky's symphonies belong to those works you can really discover only by listening to them again and again. Then they'll slowly reveal their secrets.

Brilliant symphony by one of the greatest Russian composers in the period following the death of Shostakovich.
