Dies it matter if the tip is up once it’s past the obstruction (i.e. enlarged prostate)? It’s still going to twist around once you let go. Wouldn’t it only be important to make sure the tip is up during insertion?

That coude for me was brutal. Had some trace blood. Think about it - a curved end going through a straight, narrow urethra. It may be that some can't get the catheter past the prostate. But a well lubed straight cath works fine.

I had a enlarged prostate couldn't hardly pee , so the nurses ended up putting a coude catheter in me. They started out with 12fr could not get it in, then 10fr same thing, finally 8fr went through and what a relief the urine started coming out. That was rough for a little bit.

Two people at bedside double the embarassment

Unfortunately, this is policy because of the infection risks. It's like if you are overweight and bedbound, you will need two people to do your care.

Thats bs.how come you only see one person demonstrating on vidoes then.dont see two people attending to a female.

There is no reason to have two nurses bedside for a catheter. If you can't do it solo, let someone else do it.

The reason is that is policy for YOUR safety. Why uneducated people like to argue about this is insane.

@@miamarvel616 my safety? Bullshit. Two women don't need to be there, period. If you're that bad at your job, find another profession. I've been catheterized and one nurse could easily handle it. 🤦‍♂️

@@Pirelli913 It's not best practice though 😂 Two nurses are for your safety from infection. Read a book if you're so confused about why it's supposed to be two.
And the nurses don't have to be women. Ask for a male nurse, of available. Why are you so mad? 😂 Hell, why are you here? Got catheterized once and think you know more than infection literature?

@@miamarvel616 Are you an RN or in any way care for patients in a hospital setting? If so, you have absolutely terrible bedside manner and no one should ever be so unfortunate to be under your care. First thing you did was attack and insult instead of trying to understand things from the patient's point of view. Next time, do better because you clearly aren't fit for this type of job. 😂😂😂
