Someone in the comments of I believe another video not a 128i but they mentioned on the 128i with just a few screws. you can remove plastic areas in back to give you more room. You notice how he pulled a gasket in the back to give him a little wiggle getting this out. Well when you start this pull the wiper blades and then remove all that plastic at the back area around the wiper mechanisms with like 4 10mm bolts. You will now have not a half inch like he bought with that gasket removal but like 6 inches that brings this from nearly impossible to an absolute piece of cake.
THANK YOU!!!! This video was PERFECT for my replacement of the leaking valve cover on my friend's #BMW128i and your info made it a seemingly #ZeroDrama replacement!! I did buy the replacement PCV hose but didn't need it and managed to break the coolant bottle hose which added an hour to go buy one from the dealer. I am creating a video of my replacement and will link your channel/video here on my installation video!!! #THANKYOU!!!!
It’s an external torx 8 don’t let one bolt stop you from doing it... the money that you can save doing it yourself can easily buy you a pretty extensive torx socket set on Amazon... having a good set of torx stuff is almost essential when working on many of today’s vehicles.
Recently had to top my oil off a few months ago, but it’s not leaking so I wonder if it’s burning it or catching somewhere. Is this why you did yours? I heard it’s common after 50K miles ish
Hi. I followed your steps. Very helpful. But the engine didn't fully start. It's like it tries to start, but the engine fails to eventually start. What did you say at the end of the video when you checked your work? What could be the problem? Did you say the valvetronic?
Do you have access to a code reader? It could be that you have to do a valvetronic relearn but it could also be something that wasn’t plugged in... at least reading the codes will get you in the correct direction.
Hi I am interested in purchasing a 128i and am planning on doing repairs myself. Do you think this is a good buy? I’m buying for fun factor but may want to commute in it as well
So this isn’t my car but I have driven it a few times and it’s pretty fun… the owner hasn’t had too many problems with it so I think it’s a good buy in those regards.
Seized gasket? Just gonna have to very carefully pry it up and off… maybe try using a razor or gasket scrapper to get in between the head and gasket and “cut” it away from the head
@@MattDoesStuff17 I was wondering how much work this replacement really requires since 2 shops quoted around $700. Watching this video certainly opened my eyes to how many steps there are that could easily add up to several hours, thanks!
@@MattDoesStuff17 i see stainless clip i dont have to press anything ? Just pull and fry ? Im on this step as of now……im stock did not see where u put ur screw driver if its on top of the fuel injector bar
Finally a video without useless filler and BS. Thanks for showing reassembly as well. I wish all tutorials were like this one.

man this saved my butt! thanks! and now we ll get back to not working on euro stuff
Glad I could help... this one is definitely kinda a pain
Ok. This might be beyond me but great video
Nice video man gave me a good idea
Quick question, I heard valve tronic pop. Do I need to do any type of resetting?
Excellent video, do you have any idea how many hours it might take to replace the Oil Filter Housing gasket which is apparently leaking on my vehicle?
It’s probably definitely leaking if you haven’t changed it yet… and it’s about a 3 hour job
I am thinking of doing this but the valvetronic motor has that weird bolt on the side

Amazing video! Will jump into it! Tks
Glad to help… lemme know how it goes
Did you end up completing the job yourself ?
@@ceej8794 not yet was fixing other maintenance first, this be next

did this fix your issue ?
Do you have a list of the tools that you used
I didn’t make a list but I’m pretty sure I marked all the sizes in the video
what light is that for the bay?
It’s a central lighting “underhood” I’ve had it for a long time so it’s not the led model but it still works great
How tf do you put it back in. That coolant line in the back is a pain the ass
Easy what 2k? Or?

Hey man any tips for getting the gasket unstuck from the head? My gasket is seized in the back left corner but the rest is free. Please help!

great vid... thx
Np glad you liked it 🤙
does your make any rsttle noise at idle... ? like from the valve train.
Not my car in the video but it does make some 🤷♂️ nothing unusual though
I cannot get the vacume hose off any tips?
Penetrating oil?
I end up prying it with a flathead
I got the smokes and the shops says this is the fix They quoted a 5hr job, how long did this take?
Been awhile but 5 hours sounds fair if they are torquing everything to spec and what not 🤷♂️

Hi! Besides the leaks and stuff has this car been reliable?
It’s been relatively reliable… I’ve done coil packs on it and a few other things… it’s not my car but I do all the maintenance on it.
Did u just fry the fuel injector connector and pull?
Yea just pry up on them and they’ll come off… just be careful as you go

I got a p00bc code when I did it still can’t figure it out
Think it’s probably time to check for vacuum leaks 🤷♂️
Probably cracked the back tube when taking off the vaccum hose on the very back of the valve cover near the firewall
Haha yea I’m getting a shop to do this. I don’t have the time to do this
