I don't think so. The Division is just a shooter RPG with a smoother multiplayer integration and gameplay that looks good at least in videos. And the graphics are nice. But I don't think it can surpass MGS V in terms of open world experience and storytelling. In the end a bit of shattered glass and illuminated smoke doesn't make a game.
Well, I don't know The Division's story, which gives MGS V the upper hand. I simply can't wait for both. Stuck on the DayZ/Rust gaming right now just because everyone's on it. Need to be put in stasis until this stuff is released haha
The two things you mention mostly go together in the best games. You can have the best talented 3D artists in the world if the rendering engine is poor, the game will be well below par.

Most of the tech is in the retail game. The downgrades are in the amount of geometry, the materials, and partially reflections. You can get a similar look to this in The Division using ReShade. The Volumetric Lighting, Particles, GI and Physics are all there.
The Division 2 w actually had quite a few improvements over the original, but they're not noticeable right away considering the different setting.

Personally, if I have to compare Cryengine with the Snowdrop, Snowdrop looks a lot better, IMHO! CryE. it's a good engine, but for me is a bit low compared to this. And I say again: imho!
Metro and CryEngine have nothing on this engine.

Just FYI I have had the original black xbox. The first xbox 360 and the xbox 360 premium and recently the xbox 360 slim edition (though I never use it) I also had the PS2 and the PS3 so yeh I speak from experience

Actually I do want the consoles to be on the same level and I was very disappointed when I first saw the specs of the X1 and PS4. I was planning on getting a PS4 until I saw how mediocre it was.

I agree Dustin. Technically we should stop calling a console "next gen" the day it is released, but for some reason it takes several years for the habit to die off. I think we just like to think of our cutting-edge tech as futuristic. Makes it more exciting.

Ubisofts last demo was running on a PC with a i7 CPU and a titan GPU so not many PC owners will be experiencing these exact same graphics at all.

Perhaps on the previous consoles, but because the Xbox One and PS4 both run x86 hardware (The same kind pc's use) porting over games is now much easier than it has been in the past.

They neutered it so that it would be playable on consoles and then they poorly optimized it for PC. Hell even the loading screens are bullshit since they are just for show, use cheat engine to speed it up even 10x speed and the game runs just fine... So what's the point in 30 second loading screens off of an SSD? There isn't.

Ubisoft build this amazing engine, in parts of the map that we don't actually have access to in the final game (brooklyn). Test engine on PS4/Xbox ONE, gets around 5fps average.
What other choice did they have? Go out and tell people that their engine was too powerful for current gen consoles? Potentially slowing down console sales/risking the sales of their games on console? The only thing they could do was "downsize" so that it is playable on consoles. The truth is current consoles simply cannot run this, and it's not Ubisoft's fault for trying to make the best engine they could when consoles can just about run 2 year old games at 30fps.
What you've just seen is an engine so advanced that they had no other choice than to dull it down because modern day technology isn't good enough yet. Unless you're on PC that is, and what percentage of PC gamer's do you think can run this hot piece of software?

***** When the first Gears of War came out on Xbox360, there was nothing at the time on PC that could match it. Until Crysis (and then Gears) finally came out on PC. I'm not saying PC couldn't handle Gears in 2006, but nothing at that time on PC looked "next gen", not on the same level as Gears.

Guy Brohski Doom 3 and HL2 were released before Gears. HL2 was then released on the 360/ps3 2 years after the PC release. Imho the game looked much better than Gears 1.

What sucks about nice graphics is that the interface will always block where we are looking most of the time.
Everyone was like *"DOWNGRADE!"* , but really, most of this stuff is still in the game.
The snow accumulation, the smoke and snowfall reacting to light, detailed car and environmental destruction, I think Nick930 best showcases how well the game holds up.
I feel like we don't give this game enough credit, thinking that just because it isn't EXACTLY the same as what we were shown that it's terrible, instead of just disappointing.

Welllll, its a ubisoft engine, also rockstar doesnt give a shit about pc users(well so far in any case,if/when the release 5 for PC we will see) so I doubt we will ever see these graphics in a GTA game....lol besides I read an interview where the devs where complaining about the loss of the 360 cause (paraphrased) "We just learned how to use the xbox 360" Soooo considering it took them ten years to figure out how to code their games properly for the 360 (and they still look like shit) I wouldnt hold my breath.(Disclaimer: I think GTA is a highly overrated game and would never play them....but to each their own) Edit: Puts on flak jacket *Ziiip*
newtechnoisgood GTA hasn't been the best looking games, but they are still among the most technologically advanced. They spend so long developing the games, so that by the time the game comes out the graphics are slightly dated, but the game is extremely polished, GTA V is a perfect example. Also, so much of the hardware is dedicated to the world itself, and the size of the game. They could run a much prettier game on PC, but it wouldn't run on consoles, thusly they tone it down to be multi platform. Now, with the next-gen consoles having dropped, and them being both insanely powerful and having an architecture very similar to PC's, we'll see the next GTA game looking amazingly much better than GTA V. And in GTA V, the only real problems about the graphics, are the character models. Everything else about the world is absolutely gorgeous and incredibly detailed. With much more RAM to work with on next gen, they can add far more interactive locations in the game world as well (far more houses and stores to enter). In addition, with a prettier city, and much prettier characters, we'll see a very beautiful game. As a final notice, games aren't about the graphics. Yes, i'm one of those who thinks that graphics are important, because a pretty game is a lot more fun to play, but it's not the most important thing. The most important thing is above all, originality and gameplay. Visuals come second, and GTA V is more than pretty enough to make the graphics rather unimportant.
Well I cant argue with you there, you are right the ps4/XBO are better than previous gen. So we shall indeed see. I guess to me graphics play a huge part, for me the immersion is destroyed if im looking at blurry stupid textures(with the exception of the original deus ex) it really breaks the immersion and game for me. I have never enjoyed the GTA games and my animosity towards them come from....they are taking away time from developing the new red dead, I mean come on!!! I just think that world is so much better than the gta series. Also I just hate that rockstar still cant make a port to save their lives, they are supposed to be this huge company and when I read that they are just getting to know what the xbox 360 can do, and cant even port their games correctly....that makes me think they are One only in it if its extremely lucrative, dont care about spending surplus to bring the game to everyone properly. Two have great ideas but wont even spend the money to learn how to properly code their games, I mean its taken them/been 10 years on the 360/ps3, and they seem to think that there is so much left to do with the xbox 360...wh..what? If they had spent any time on their pc ports they would have no problem moving over to code for the x86 tec inside the new gen consoles,every other company (that ive read) thinks that an upgrade is long over due. Idk like I said to each their own, lol and Im quite obviously the minority in my thoughts cause GTA V was/is selling like hotcakes. I like the Saints row series a bit better, just cause they dont take themselves so seriously, its an awesome combination. BiffyClyro4Life PC generally runs stuff better, but if somethings ported to PC then it rarely comes out right. Some games just arn't meant for mouse and keyboard and alot get shitty online play.
Very nice. 1 thing I noticed though is the cars in the game have glass headlights, but, these days they are usually plastic. Very good effects and it brings games closer to realism in some aspects.

This looks crazy. Other game engines have similar features but one thing for sure that Snowdrop has the leg up on 100% is the material shaders. Going from snow, slush, rain, and dry is awesome. I can only imagine what the terrain system is gonna be like.

Dont think so, in fact it might be the other way around tbh cuz NFS Rivals runs at locked 30 fps on PC while it runs at 60 fps on both PS4 n XOne. Its down to the developers too, but i'm pretty sure a dedicated platform with 8GB RAM, a good cpu and a decent graphic chip will have no trouble running the game at 60 fps 1080 since it isnt a launch game, devs should be able to squeeze more out of the consoles by then.

Consoles have the game bottlenecked at a point that it can run "smoothly" whereas on a PC you can push your hardware to its limit using a game such as The Division. You can not run multiple monitors off of a PS4. You can not run the game at 1080p on console let alone 1440p or even 1600p. Needless to say, this showcase was rendered on a PC not a PS4 or Xbox One.

I would bet it comes out with several physic bugs. What Ubisoft has currently shown, here in the Video and on E3 is exactly the same piece of map. So as we know from such engines we can expect extremely funny visible bugs. But well thats nothing new to such engines, and if they will patch it out in a decent time ... Id buy it anyways. Incredible when I first watched this it was like my high end pc , running a superclocked gtx 780 with acx cooling from evga screamed I want to run this game right now. Me I can't wait to play it for the first time and experience next gen graphics the way they should've been for years.

by the way: GTA V release on PC is very obvious as long as there will be a version for next gen consoles. And the funny thing is :) Most PC Gamers I know have a PS3 too and can play GTA V ;)

The Dev probably showcased the engine on PC like any other devs,( Unreal etc )

I'll be straight up honest, this game looks absolutely stunning. I've not seen a game of this detail, ever. I've always thought that the true test of next-gen fidelity is in the detail and these folks here have done just that. Hard work and creativity will pay off dividends. Bravo!!!
