It may seem unbelievable but these last three minutes are why I started watching POI in the first place. I happened to turn on the local station and saw this bit. I wondered why some rich guy would want to track two other people through a watch that he gave them for helping him. And why here they so paranoid to check for a tracker? I certainly tuned in the next week and quickly caught up on previous episodes. So glad I caught these three minutes.
I just started a rewatch. Wow has this show held up! The conspiracies and moving chess pieces and shifting loyalties and moral gray zones. The cinematography and editing are amazing! Elias. HR. Forgot what a badass Carter is! Bear!! This would have been a spectacular movie trilogy or even better edited down to a 13 episode like Netflix/Marvel show (no fillers).
So this is why the Machine eventually recruits Pierce... Throughout the show we see both Team Machine and in particular the Machine itself turning threats into assets: Fusco, Carter, Root, Elias, Hersh, and Control were all enemies of the main characters at some point that were turned to work for them. this is the same with Peirce - he was a threat to Finch, so the Machine monitored him and when the time was right, recruited him.
A lot of people credit Finch with imbuing the Machine with a conscience and high regard for human life. True enough, but I think it was Mr. Reese and how he never really gave up on people like Fusco, Elias, Shaw, even Carter after it looked like she set him up...who gave the Machine a sense of don't write off people too quickly. As John did, observe and recruit as needed. This is how Reese utilized Fusco, Zoe, Carter, Elias, Root and Shaw. Finch evolved...at first he wrote off the irrelevants lists and simply reset the Machine to focus on threats to national security. ONLY when Nathan was killed and it was revealed that he was one of the Irrelevants that the Machine had identified and seemingly offered up for some kind of intervention did Finch mature in his ethic and decision-making. Finch began to realize, just like how he observed that Jessica had been another identified Irrelevant who perished absent intervention, was someone special to Mr. Reese, that he was terribly wrong to disregard the Irrelevants Lists. While the NSA had its to do list based on threats the Machine identified as endangering national security, Finch undertook to tackle at least some of the Irrelevants identified by the Machine. It should be noted though that it seems the Machine identified specific Irrelevants to Finch...at least some of these people are those who would factor in the end game against the burgeoning threat that became Samaritan. At some point, the Machine began to use the alerts it sent to Finch as a way of building a network of assets to fight against Samaritan. I think had Season 5 been a full 23 episodes, we would have seen more of the previous Irrelevants playing a role in the final match against Samaritan. Unfortunately, the season was nearly cut in half.
Control & Hersch were never apart of Team PoI. They just happened to be in a situation where they shared a common enemy in Vigilance & were willing to temporarily work together. Though, Control did have enough oddities she was noticing occurring round her to be in a situation where she was willing to look further into intel provided by Team PoI for herself which led to her taking actions to attempt to stop the Correction & one can look at that as another timeframe of working with due to having a shared enemy. Hersch, didnt survive Greer's false flag op involving Vigilance to have the option tho.
@@StupidBadyXD and remember: "Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?" Guess Finch (or maybe Nathan?) had The Machine study Lincoln...
@@StupidBadyXD Finch has killed the Machine for less... The machine is not supposed to look out for anyone, but everyone... Then you realize, Finch always had Admin Access..
just rewatching the series again...it's uncanny how many of the side character, some one off's like Logan here, and some like Agent Stone, wound up in House of Cards and other acclaimed series. Show will never get old
Check who is directing and producing. Sometimes they bring along friends or actors they trust. Albert Popwell was in 4 Dirty Harry movies, always a different character. Bank robber, Pimp, radical, then Harry's friend. Someone liked him as a friend or actor. He was a good actor. RIP
After rewatching PoI, I got the real feeling that the Machine was the one lobbying for the saving of The Irrelevants. Even though Harold was reluctant to, and somehow fearful about the Machine's self-developing "conscience", prompting Harold to erase the machine's OS and restart every night and wipe out the irrelevants list every night as well, the machine not only found a work around, it persisted with communicating the irrelevants! I got the feeling that Nathan's conscience and abhorrence over Harold's seeming disregard for the irrelevants lists somehow compelled the Machine to develop methods to save as many irrelevants as it could. Hence, Team Machine 2.0, Logan, Joey and Harper!
Although this post is 10 yrs old I am just now watching this series...So many actors were involved with this series that had major roles in major series and or movies after. By the way, I did a quick Bio research on the actor that plays Reese...He actually was an elite high school basketball player and was recruited and played college ball for 1 or 2 years at a small college (wish the Machine would remind me what college that was)...Anyway, he's 6'4" or so and has a nice form on his jump shot...considering he did that in a suit...
Notice how not even the machine was able to hack the device or trace where it’s coming from. The only person to be qualified enough to replace finch (probably what it was thinking)
It's adorable how Reese seemed a little hurt that Finch broke his "gift." lol Also, you'd think Pierce Logan would be just grateful enough to the POI team for Root to recruit him in the current fight against Samaritan.
i was hoping for that too. to see some of the old "numbers" come back and "return the favor" somehow. i never thought it' d come true but, once it did, i was blown away! 👍😉 the one number i miss, though - and was looking forward to see again - was Jenrika (the little girl from s03ep5); but seeing Logan, Joey and Harper? that was awesome!!!
Love watching JC play basketball! And poor Reese in the park scene, he has so many layers of clothes on because of the cold, he can't even bend his arms! LOL
Jim and Michael both commented on how tough it was sometimes in NYC filming in the winter. In NYC, the tall buildings form artificial canyons, and channel the wind, producing a nasty wind-chill
This is actually puzzling. Pierce has massive wealth, technology, cunning, and we know he's part of The Machine's anti crime via a phone number unit in another city. Yet by the last season, it's still the Finch Team which is doing the heavy fighting. I see no reason not to involve the Pierce Team as well. Am I wrong?
Well for one thing, look at the team layouts, as team Finch has some of the best warriors in the world, and a supergenius, so they would make up the vanguard of The Machine’s forces, while Pierce’s team would buy time, draw attention away from Finch, and waylay samaritan, while also being separated so if one team is destroyed the other continues
@@tomothy1625 i think if they wanted to restart the series, its possible for them to use the second team to unfuck parts of the last season. Have it be a simulation but then, since it failed with one team the idea of needing a second team comes into play in the episode where finch messes up and gets spotted. There is no other show like this and frankly, people stopped watching TV cause its just a bunch of the same shit now-a-days
You are wrong because Pierce doesn't have a way to be invisible to samaritan's eyes. Him being involved in the big fight would probably just put him in grave danger. Samaritan can basically empty all his bank accounts if it wants to and Pierce is no longer a threat.
