I often read comments comparing the pillows to Blur/Oasis/Weezer and even Nirvana sometimes, am I the only one that feels like they sound the most like Elliott Smith? He would've loved them for sure.
Uhm is the song of this has taken some insipration from Nirvana's Lithium, the verse part of it has some pattern and the oh yeah similar to the yeah in lithiums chorus part.
i tried explaining this point to a couple pillows fans over youtube once.... they had no clue what i was saying and totally missed my point. Good to see someone who can hear the similarities between Coxon and Manabe. The sound and structure of the song itself is very Albarn/Coxon.
I had a feeling awhile ago that they were heavily influenced by the shit that was going down in UK in the early 90s. Charlatans, Blur, Ride, Stone Roses, etc. Manabe's style screams Johnny Mar.
1996 ESP Ultratone George Lynch model (modified). The minihumbuckers were replaced with strat single coil pickups. the pickups were layed out similar to a tele configuration. The bridge pickup is slanted. He used it from 1996 - 1999 and then soon after he later gave the guitar to former Noodles member Junko.
Actually, the pickups were replaced with two Fender single coils one one is a telecaster at the bridge position and the other is strat pickup at the neck pickup. You can get something similar to this setup with a used Squier Classic Vibe tele. With the exception of the CV 50s white tele, pretty much all of their CV models can get you there. The main reason is because the neck pickup in these teles have a 42 gauge wire and a nickel-silver cover. Essentially it is a strat pickup in a tele-sized pickup body because of the 42 gauge wire.
