    Love this! I just did this on my ZJ d44 and it had the little bit of play after aswell but it was because I didn't think to put the races back the exact way they came off. OOPS! Like you said, it really is an exacting process. Your vids are awesome. I've learned a lot, so thank you for making them :)

    I currently have a 2012 JKU Sport with 3:21 gearing. What all is needed to install 4:56 gears in my D30 front/ D44 rear setup? I have watched many of your videos. You always do a great job of explaining as well as showing what you mean. Where are you located?

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  9 лет назад

      Orange Crusher you need 2 gear sets, 2 master install kits, and the tools seen in this video and the know how to install them.

    What is the part called matt that holds everything in the press? Cheaper method than having to buy a clamshell puller as well. Thanks man

    The guy i bought my jeep off said he changed the gear ratio? I dont like it. I wanna put the original gears back in. I think it originaly had the 3.07 setup. Can i just buy the 307 assembly and swap it straight out without having to pop any bearings out or do anything that requires crazy tools and procedures. All i have is wrenches and such... not much time

    • @SmokeyBear363
      @SmokeyBear363 5 лет назад +1

      youll need different carriers for 3.07's ring and pinion will be lapped together so youll have to check pinion depth and adjust backlash. youll need a dial indicator, micrometer to check shim thickness, something to remove the pinion nuts since they are torqued to 350+ ftlbs to crush the washers. torque wrench, dial type torque wrench for pinion preload and common sense. id just leave the gears you have on there. doesnt take much time but you have to know what you are doing. 3.07 is a shit ratio honestly. common for jeep tj's. if you have bigger tires id just live with it.

    I need the rear end replaced in my 2000 Cherokee. My pinion is bad plus other bearing bad. Im wanting to take out axles, housing an all out of my 2000 cherokee and replace it with another complete housing axels an all. Unbolt u bolts drop it all. What modal jeeps will inner change. I know i have a Dana 30 in the front and its good and a Dana 35 in the rear thats bad.. My rear gear ratio is 355. What other jeep rear ends will inner change and i will be ok with my front end dana 30

    Running the D30 on this jeep that your putting so much time into? Thought you said in one of your vids that any hard wheeling and they will break, just curious. Figured you'd go with a set of D44's.

    • @boomstickkid
      @boomstickkid 10 лет назад

      its honestly not really worth it to put a d44 in an xj, atleast in the front. for one its alot of work. there are no "bolt in" d44 axles. which means you have to cut and weld new spring pads, and control arm mounts. and hopefully you find one with the right lug pattern you want, otherwise youll be swapping knuckles/hubs to get the pattern you desire. in the end youve done all this work and all you really gain is a bigger ring and pinion, sure, the shafts are a little bit bigger, you still have the same u joints. if youre going to put in a d44, buy one someone has already done to their xj... they are probably moving to a 60. if you are going to tackle it from scratch, you might as well just get a d60.

      Guinelle1 Wait a minute, the Rubicon TJ had 44 fronts that were a direct bolt in to an XJ or MJ I thought? The 30s were all interchangeable, the only real difference is the TJs had a low pinion front.

    • @boomstickkid
      @boomstickkid 10 лет назад

      PFCLeist yes sorry, forgot about rubicon fronts, they are LP and, really they arent a "true" 44 it has the same size shafts as the d30, just more splines, and the same u joint. not worth putting a rubi 44 in, unless you get a super good deal on it

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  10 лет назад +1

      I said that about the d35. the d30 is actually pretty tuff but besides that, this is a daily driver... not a hardcore rig.

      31s are not very far off stock size tires. You dont need to regear it.

    Hey Matt! I'm hearing the exact same sound in my 2001 cherokee sport in the front end. How would I diagnose this problem? I would like to do what you're doing but I'm fairly new to working on cars. Do you think I should attempt this? Also, I don't have the Dana 30 axles everything is stock. If you think I could handle this, where should I start? Thanks

    • @bleepinjeep

      tools required makes setting gear sets a pain. if its you only vehicle count on it being down for a day or two if a shop does the work. if you tackle it yourself and have purchased the tools well give yourself a few days,some moral support,a great deal of reading/research. be willing to step away when frustrated.

    if my stock gearing is 3.73, do i need new carriers if i go 4.88?? d30 d35

    • @canalesivany
      @canalesivany 6 лет назад

      jeepguy you don’t need carrier, only 3.21 need a new carrier

    • @MrMrsregor
      @MrMrsregor 5 лет назад +1

      Dana 30 = One carrier for 3.54 and higher and a different carrier for 3.73 and lower (ratio)
      Dana 35 = One carrier for 3.31 and higher and a different carrier for 3.55 and lower (ratio)

    you should never tighten a pinion down with an air gun, that nut has a torque spec so you don't bind up your bearings and burn em up

    • @cdwalkman8401

      Never saw any reason to tighten anything past hand tight. Never ever ever ever.

    wen we re gear dose the bearing size change?

  • @retiredppd

    that torque wrench is not accurate, buy a click style wrench.

    • @madmacc040
      @madmacc040 9 лет назад +7

      actually beam and dial type are better for this type of maintenance. You cannot measure pinion preload and and/or carrier bearing preload with click type torque wrench. As for accuracy well click type torque wrenches are quite sensitive and cant get knock out of cal.
