I had the privilege of seeing Queen LIVE in Florida in 1977 (Senior year of High School). It remains the best single concert I have ever attended. The energy pulsating through the crowd was almost overwhelming. They performed for 2 1/2 hours but we would have stayed forever. I'm thrilled that so many young people are discovering this amazing group of musicians -- it just proves that truly great music is timeless.
Freddie had such charisma, no one could command an audience like he could. Freddie never had singing lessons, and he could and did cover every genre of music you can name, including opera. He did an entire album with Montserrat Cabale.
Freddie Mercury: the greatest singer, songwriter, musician and frontman of all time! Freddie was pretty much self taught ( except for choir at Boarding School). Brian May jokes that when they first got Queen together, Freddie wasn't the great singer we know now. But after less then a month of being able to listen back to the tapes of his singing, he became the Freddie we know. The raw talent was there, Freddie just had to figure out how to use his incredible voice. I highly recommend the live version of White Queen and You Take My Breath Away. They will blow you away!
Dani Atkinson White Queen Live At Hammersmith Odeon 1975 to be exact. Queen is the only band in history where each member wrote a #1 song while part of the same band. The band is composed of 4 very talented musicians, although John Deacon, bass, would be first to admit he doesn’t sing, the other 3 were singers. Freddy often said he wasn’t the leader of the band, just the lead singer. The other 3 were happy to let Freddy be the focus of the band, but they all contributed to the music. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Queen isn’t part of Freddy Mercury....Freddy Mercury is part of Queen. Don’t underestimate the rest of the band 😉. Freddy was the GOAT of front men though!
When Freddie and Brian performed, “Love of My Life” live in Brazil, Freddie had the whole crowd singing so loud that they almost drowned him out. He wasn’t just the greatest rock vocalist of his generation, he was also the greatest entertainer on stage as well.
The greatest frontman to ever grace the stage. Brian (Guitarist) could have fronted any other band he wanted, and Roger (The Drummer) could have done the same. They were a family and they protected each other (Freddie Mercury's final days, an eighteen-minute documentary shows), and even when they parted ways in 1986 after the 1985 farm aid (they stole the stage) never lost touch. Truly amazing.
It was really a blessing when I twice had the opportunity to see them live in concert in Vienna, Austria - I will never forget that extraordnary performance they gave. I always liked them as a school kid. And now I even love them more than ever before. I miss Freddie, his talents, accurancy and awsome melodies. Having you and Freddie the same size on screen next to each other instead of small screen in different parts of the screen, this is how all video reactions should be viewed, the best i have seen.
Enjoyed your comments. So hard to believe this was 39 years ago! We are lucky to have so many of their performances on line - you can choose a genre that suits your mood on any given day. One of my personal favorites is White Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon from 1975. I'd love to hear a singer's perspective on his voice in this. It's truly stunning that four musicians could sound that good in a live performance. Haven't seen anything that compares. Haunting and beautiful.
I had front row seats for Queen (May ‘74) who opened for Mott The Hoople in The Urís Theater NYC. This was their debut in the states. I owned their albums but was totally blown away by the way Freddy owned that crowd. That show (Mott was really not off a new album at the time) still remains among my top 5 R&R lifetime experiences and I’ve seen hundreds of shows. RIP Freddy. We miss ya.
This is my favorite Queen song and fave performance of this song. Freddie wrote this one and has said it's his favorite to perform live. Great reaction!

Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest lead singers of any rock band and he was such a showman on stage. If you want to explore more of their music, I have suggestions of several of their best songs for you to react to. They are "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Are The Champions", "We Will Rock You", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites The Dust", and "Under Pressure". As an Elvis fan, I think you'd really appreciate "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". It is a rockabilly-type song that Elvis would've recorded. Also, Freddie sings this song in an Elvis-style vocals. Freddie had no formal training in singing or music. Some piano lessons in boarding school but he could not sight read music at all. If he heard a song once he could play it and he composed in his head then took it to the piano. His education was in design but he preferred music as did the others in the group. All have college degrees, Brian May the guitar player has a PhD in astrophysics, Roger the drummer a degree in biology and was in dental school when he opted to do music instead and John the bass player has a degree in electronics. Talented band to be sure.
Brian May does not just have degree in Astrophysics as a small aside either. He wrote a thesis on space dust (there is a review of this available on youtube by Doctor Becky Smethurst of Oxford university), and consulted with NASA on their New Horizons probe.

now you know why Queen is Queen on of the best Bands of ALL Time with the biggest Singer/Frontman of all time no autotune and no classical vocal training of anykind.
Something as simple as him saying "ok let's do it and the crowd just erupts" he was once asked "what is your favourite instrument Freddie his answer the crowd baby" pure genius.
You can hear Freddie practicing his operatic voice in "Exercises in Free Love" He could hit just about every note from the bottom of the keyboard to the top. He was a vocal God. He detested lip syncing. He and the band were always better live than recorded, because they were better than the editing machines. Even on the rare occasion Freddie's voice cracked....he still did it in tune...lol. He has been recently nicknamed the human auto tune, since they didn't have back when he was singing. He wouldn't have needed it anyhow 😀
Exercises In Free Love is not really opera, it is countertenor. If you want to hear Freddie singing opera you have to listen to Ensueno - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe ruclips.net/video/vZ7OLCPsiiE/видео.html.
@@DaniAtkinson When they were on Top of The Pops (a British music chart show that used to give you the top 40 pop hits every week) because they all had to lip sync, he used to mess up the lip sync. Like not singing into the mic, or not sticking strictly to where he would sing on the backing tape.
Gotta love Freddies trademark half mic stand. I wish I could find the concert when his mic stand came apart and decided to just use the top half of it. He always just used it this way since.
Can see you appreciate not just his voice but Brian on lead guitar and roger on drums. Please check out white queen at hammersmith Apollo. Yessss.. please check the 1976 version with just Freddie and the Piano, then the studio version. You'll see how very versatile his voice really was...truly the G.OA.T. R.I.P Freddie ,thank you for sharing your wonderful gift.
Hey Dani..... Thank you for your reaction to this song. I loved Freddie when I was a teen and I love him even more now that I am 64. I miss him and am sad that he is no longer with us in real life, we can only visit his recordings, which are wonderful, don't get me wrong. I heard one person comment on this video and it stuck with me because in its simplicity, it is true. The post read, "Freddie wears a shirt with Superman on it; Superman wears a shirt with Freddie Mercury on it." I thought it was soooo cool. Thanks again, Dani. I enjoyed it. Take care and be well. Peace.
Dani React to Barcelona; He is singing a duet with a opera singer which is superb. I hated we lost him so early. You'll reach 10,000 before you know it. Thank You thank You Very Much.
Always great to see a new Queen fan. Freddie Mercury was not trained. He had a band in school but he didn't sing, he played piano. He got to grade 4 piano but got bored with playing other peoples music. He could hear music and play it perfectly on the piano. He taught himself guitar as well. It is interesting you noticed that he can sing above the band because Brian May had his guitar turned up to blasting so Freddie had to have his mic turned up louder. Freddie gave 110% every concert and expected those around him to do the same. The drummer, Roger Taylor and the guitarist, Brian May harmonize beautifully with Freddie. For early Queen watch White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975 and You Take My Breath Away Live in Hyde Park 1976. To hear Roger Taylor's operatic voice listen to In the Lap of the Gods Live at the Rainbow 1974. Enjoy Queen!
Greetings Dani. I saw Queen live back in Oregon 1980 and it was the best concert I have ever seen. The album "another one bites the dust" concert. Freddy sure could sing back in the day and he had a horrible death. I am also happy you have been paying tribute to my favorite performer of all time, namely: Elvis. You rock and thank you for your reviews:)

This was Freddie's (vocalist) favorite song. He adored sharing it with fans. It was inspired by Aretha Franklin, his idol. The falsetta voice that you hear is Roger Taylor (drummer).
@@DaniAtkinson once you delve into their back catalogue you will find some stuff you won't believe, their smooth backing vocals are just beautiful! they were'nt just a hard rock band belting out loud music on stage, they have a lot of very delicate and intricate stuff too, they cover every style of music and on some tracks do jazz, vaudeville and opera! even if you dont review them i will give you some songs to listen to at home and see what you think of them? but do the studio versions first! love of my life, seaside rendezvous, bring back that leroy brown and just because brian plays a jazz band on his guitar good company! enjoy dani xx
He was not classically trained, he was trained as an artist (you can see lots of his artistry in the logo he created for Queen and many more examples) he was the Leonardo of music and art.
In the years 1977 to 1982, I worked part time at the Montreal Forum, the place where this show was filmed. As an employee, I had the opportunity to see all the shows and hockey games presented at the Forum. So I had the chance to see this show with a stage pass, it was the 2nd time that I saw Queen live at the Forum. I also had the chance to see Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Moody Blues, The Woo, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Nazareth, and many more, plus countless of hockey games The best job of my life. I was working on the night shift to prepare the arena for the shows (floors, seats and stage), and after the show to undo the set-up for the hockey games.

I was VERY fortunate to see Queen live, and Freddie was the puppet master who pulled our strings at will, and we followed that master all night long. I will store those memories for my whole life...
May I suggest that you react to his WHOLE concert at Wembley in 1986. This may have to be broken down into 5 takes but I guarantee to you that you will be mesmerised not only by the vocal range but also the fact he seems to be able to sing any genre of music. The anthems of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ & ‘Innuendo’ (studio versions) are testimony to that fact. His duet with Montserrat Caballé, ‘Barcelona’ is pure magic.
I detest lip syncing also!!!
No opera singer ever said he can sing like me but I can't sing like him.Pavoratti said that of Elvis. May they both rest in peace.
Gotta love Freddies trademark half mic stand. I wish I could find the concert when his mic stand came apart and decided to just use the top half of it. He always just used it this way since.
you
will never see our hear any thing like Queen ever again and beloved Freddie
Can see you appreciate not just his voice but Brian on lead guitar and roger on drums. Please check out white queen at hammersmith Apollo. It’s more progressive rock and the instrumental mid song is 🔥 that and you take my breath away Hyde park you will appreciate. Then of course there’s live aid maybe the most famous performance and music set of all time. Queen 👊🏻🇬🇧
Freddie 🎹🎼❤️, Brian 🎸❣️, Roger ❣️🥁, John Bass🎸❣️. Phenomenal band ... nice reaction will come back for more ... Love of my Life ... no vocal training at all. Ahh you are classically trained ... go see his work with Monserrat Caballe ... yes the incredible opera singer !!! Barcelona and others
@Waggish Feline
check the song exercises of free love :) but maybe u already know the song
@@thanksmr.obvious6427 one of my absolute favourites 👍🌹and also Rachmaninovs Revenge - early version is my preference but many like the later version. 💐
Hi Waggish, so glad you enjoyed it and hope you will subscribe for a ton more!
I will definitely be looking into your suggestions :)
I saw Queen live 3 times and could never get enough of their performances. Saw many great bands of the 70s and 80s but they were at the top.
Loved your reaction!! Please react to You Take My Breath Away (live Hyde Park 1976). Freddie, his piano playing and his voice - all gorgeous. He will take your breath away! 💖👑
Yessss.. please check the 1976 version with just Freddie and the Piano, then the studio version. You'll see how very versatile his voice really was...truly the G.OA.T. R.I.P Freddie ,thank you for sharing your wonderful gift.
Great reaction! You should check out Queen - You Take My Breath Away (live in Hyde Park 1976)! Cheers!
Thank You
thank You Very Much.
Hi Richard, I definitely will add that one to my list! And thank you, thank you very much for being here!
That song is just fantastic! Goosebumps!
What a legendary talent Freddie was.
I now know what Mick Jagger meant when he said, "You don't get many like Freddie."
Great reaction great performance ,such a great band live please listen to save me ,I'm sure it's from this concert in Montreal beautiful song ,I love the live stuff but certain songs should be heard in the studio version purely for the harmonies no technology back then just raw talent ,try take my breath away official beautiful ,thank you stay safe from Liverpool UK
Freddie was one of a kind - THE GOD OF MUSIC !!
Freddie was a total legend
Cool reaction Dani
LOVE HOW FREDDY SINGS THE WORDS I CRY AND WHAT YOUR DOING TO ME IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SONG MASTERFULL!!!
Love your reaction to this, spot on. This was a very tragic loss to music at a young age. Queen was truly one of the best live bands ever, can engage a crowd like no other. If you want more check out the Live Aid concert in full, about 20 minutes.
Goosebumps time!
RIDICULOSLY GIFTED.
Queen, my very first live concert at MSG 1982...Freddie opens up with Jailhouse Rock wearing a black leather jacket.
Wow, how awesome that you got to see him live! I am definitely going to find footage of that!
Are you sure it wasn't, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love?" It was a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, rather than a cover of one of his songs.
@@nicholashylton6857 I’ll never forget, it was Jailhouse Rock..he also performed Crazy Little Thing.
@@oneafter9095 Whoa! I would have loved to have seen that! But being a small boy back then, more interested in Saturday morning cartoons and Star Wars action figures - my musical tastes were suspect.
This was Freddie's (vocalist) favorite song. He adored sharing it with fans. It was inspired by Aretha Franklin, his idol.
The falsetta voice that you hear is Roger Taylor (drummer).
Every one of those "backup singers" has a master's degree in something other than music and the guitarist Brian May has his PhD in astrophysics
He had a doctors degree in astrophysics
Freddie was the only one who didn't...
Dani, that's why Freddie is the GOD OF MUSIC !!!!
More Queen!!
Yes for sure!
I saw this tour in 1980 at MSG in NYC, I was 13.
I also had the chance to see Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Moody Blues, The Woo, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Nazareth, and many more, plus countless of hockey games
The best job of my life. I was working on the night shift to prepare the arena for the shows (floors, seats and stage), and after the show to undo the set-up for the hockey games.
There will never be another.
No voice training. Just raw talent. Watch live aide. The ride will blow your mind
Now you are an even more highly esteemed youtube reactor than you were before. :D
All self-respecting reactors have to have this epic masterpiece of a performance on their list. :D
I was VERY fortunate to see Queen live, and Freddie was the puppet master who pulled our strings at will, and we followed that master all night long. I will store those memories for my whole life...
That was worth the entrance fee alone. Epic.
keep in mind, Live in 1981 pre auto-tune. whoever the sound engineer was did an amazing job. this sounds like it could go straight to vinyl.
the whole thing is live. everything
All Dead, All Dead by Queen is a personal favorite!!!!!!
Saw him in 1977. Amazing Performance
Freddie was a natural talent.some piano & guitar lessons but that was all.one of greatest entertainers of all time!
You will amass a great following from fans of Queen
Talent personified no Enhancements needed
Hi, Dani, awesome reaction. You should check out White Queen (A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975). I think you'll really dig it. Freddie's voice and piano + Brian's lyrics and guitar is honestly mesmerizing. It gives me shivers every time. And, of course, check out any of their live numbers from Wembley (or anywhere, really). You honestly can't go wrong.
Dani, You MUST SEE this entire performance. If not on your channel, then just for yourself. There will never be another Freddie Mercury.
Queen is amazing, and Freddie was a once in a lifetime performer. Just beautiful!! Perhaps you would like to check out Save me from the same concert. A whole other song! Much bless dear ❤❤
...I Really Liked Your Reaction To This...My All Time Favourite Performance By Anyone EVER..."Freddie Mercury Is Without Doubt The Greatest Singer Performer Showman Of This Century Easily In My Opinion... I'm In Total Agreement With Everything You Had To Say & Like Myself Your Genuine Appreciation/Awe Of Queen/Freddie... Gone Far Too Soon But NEVER Forgotten 🥰😥... Queen Is Loved By An Entire Planet With Music That Reaches The Masses & Generations To Come...In A World Fallen On Such Scary Uncertain Times THANK-YOU For Bringing A Lil Smile To My Face With This Video... If you want a treat watch Queen live at Wembley , it shows all of Queen’s talent!
Greatest single song live performance ever . Live Aid in 85 considered to be greatest set live .
