I sure miss your videos of all fishing you 2 do & the collaborations with Fisherman's Life. I hope all goes well and you are still fishing and working in Alaska.
Hey man. You probably don't remember me but I stayed at the Chinook shores lodge and went fishing with a friend of mine a couple of years ago. I just wanted to say that you inspired me and I am now a deckhand in homer alaska. Thank you very much.
@HahThatsWhatSheSaid what pollutants?? In Hawaii we eat some raw seafood. Unless your ocean is polluted that nothing is living or barely living in it I’m sure it’s ok. Sea salt if originally dried ocean water
Look like box crabs to me ??..had too Google them..I learned something new.. Puget Sound king crabs are larger than the similar brown box crab, with an average size of 6-10 inches. ...
Good stuff guys!!! All I could think of the whole time is "SAVE SOME FOR MATTS".... LOL.... You should definitely parboil some, and freeze it up and send it to him, or wait for his next visit to let him try some. While your add it, send me some down here in Miami too!! 😉 👍 Thanks for the upload.
Hey man , I too am a free diver / spear fisherman down here on the Oregon coast. The water up there is really clear ( looks cold as hell ). Where you were diving , it looked for the most part pretty shallow. May I ask about where in Alaska you were.? Diving for those type of king crabs has always been a dream of mine. Thank you for this video!
"The Puget Sound king crab is known to live in the subtidal regions along coasts which means it is part of a diverse community of marine life that interact with each other to create a dynamic environment. This species is in a position where it must catch prey and avoid predators in order to survive and thrive. L. mandtii is known to consume sea urchins and other invertebrates, such as starfish and sea cucumbers.[1] By controlling sea urchin populations, more seaweed and kelp will show up since there will be less invertebrates that consume those primary producers. In turn, the seaweeds and kelp conceal the Puget Sound king crab from its predators in the sky, such as pelicans and other birds that consume marine life. This is an example of a changing cycle within this community because a disturbance or change any species population could alter the rest of the community altogether. L. mandtii is becoming more uncommon in the areas it used to thrive in. Part of this is due to increased use of fishing nets of different sizes which the crabs get caught in and brought up.[6] The Puget Sound king crab has been put on the protected species list by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department which means it is not advised to catch and collect this species. " Just Sayin.
Great video! Never stand on that little shelf next to the transom. It’s not designed to hold you and you could easily fall into the water and the motor prop will chew you up if you are in reverse. I am thinking this is likely one of the first times you have operated a small boat like that.
That first crab that he opened dock-side, I would've added gochujang(Korean chili paste), garlic/ginger, sesame oil, shochu(Korean alcohol), chili pepper powder/flakes & marinate 2-3hours....
You are from the Puget Sound area? That's where I live. Been crabbing for over 25 years here and I've never went for rock crab. And there's no limit for them here in Puget Sound?
The reason why I gave you a thumbs up ! Is because, you returned the female crab 🦀 to allow the repopulation of their species, I don’t like to watch people who make bad decisions! Good for you!
It really depends on the weather. Water conditions are good if we do not have a lot of rain the day before you go, if has not been super hot and there is no algae bloom, and if it is not too windy on the day you go. 😃 Best of luck to you I hope it’s an awesome trip! 👍🏼
If you're not in a harbor with all of oils and "other stuff" that gets into the water from boats and people... just grab a bucket of seawater for the boil. No need to spend money on salt. "Because that's how we do", here in WA State. (Besides, it's sea salt. According to people that make such claims, sea salt is better for you)
OMG do you sound naive. Maybe you’d like to erect a little privacy tent for them? Adfg sets the rules for harvest fully aware of breeding and life cycles. Grow up.
If that soft crab was soft enough that you could tear it's shell with two fingers then you totally should of kept it and deep fried it!!!!! Imagine being the first ever to eat and cook a softshell KING CRAB hahaha

That is badass!!
5:14 to what are you referring to when you said “yes they are beautiful “?
The crabs, duh Kappa
@@spinster4000 i think there's something else that's more beautiful then the crab 🦀 😂
I really glad you included the cooking part. I'm so jealous watch this. Very cool.
You added salt from a can to water to boil the crabs? You just came out of the ocean! Call me crazy but we just use sea water to boil them.
You don’t get all the dissolved pollutants if you use treated water and food grade salt.
Two smart people on your hands here....
@@pold4837 lol

because usually when you boil with water from the ocean, the meat tends to stick to the shell more
No one can resist crabs ♥️
Amazing country thanks for your vidéo
I really enjoyed this you guys! I even learned somthin' new today! Cheers! Where can you purchase the big Crab Steamer??
Look like box crabs to me ??..had too Google them..I learned something new..

Those crabs look like the monsters I used to fight on a Harry Potter PC game lol
You really need an orange road cone with glass on the big end for viewing the bottom from inside the boat
Good idea. Would have been a huge help having one.

He kept another female though

@Kristine Gunnels thank you
Almost Home Vacation Rentals is a great option in Ketchikan.
The "crab shit" is the best part of any crab!

What month did y’all go in to get these crabs and scallops?
“It looks nice enough to eat”,🤣
Amazing..king crap👍👍🤔🤔😚💓
Good catch
Next time cook them in the same water you pulled them from it works good with octopus
Wish we would have. Great idea to try with octopus. Have you cooked octopus often? We catch them occasionally.
Yah. I spent most my life on the big island. That’s how Hawaiians cook.
The highest quality productions for fishing videos! Keep em coming.

It’s been a year since your guys posted a video. Did you quit you-tubing?
These crabs are very expensive in Japan. You're lucky to just be able to pluck them out from the water.
It was special finding them. Cheers!
Never seen king crab with such short legs
No air tasks allowed?

Looks like you're taking breeding pairs. Not how I would roll.
OMG do you sound naive. Maybe you’d like to erect a little privacy tent for them? Adfg sets the rules for harvest fully aware of breeding and life cycles. Grow up.
Someone should report them
Read the “about” before you judge
