      +GhostPirate6 I'm not sure where your coming from or why you keep insulting Tom Baker. Did he do something to you personally or insult you? I respect all the actors who have played the role (I would never go on there videos just to leave negative comments ). But Tom is definitely popular. He won the fan poll again last year for favorite Doctor in the official and biggest Doctor Who magazine on the planet. A lot of his episodes had the highest ratings in Doctor Who history (that's from the BBC). He was the first Doctor to make it big in America with his episodes being shown thru out the U.S. on PBS. On BBC America he is the only classic Doctor shown on there network on a regular basis. Lastly Tom's Doctor is the only classic era Doctor that is sold by Pop figures and that you can find at "Hot Topic" and "Barnes & Nobles" stores. Like I said I like all the Doctors but if you don't like Tom then why watch this video?

    • @colinmcphan
      @colinmcphan 8 лет назад +17

      +MMODoubter That was a great Doctor Who moment. I'm not saying that because Tom's my favorite Doctor or that I love Liz and Tom so much. I just love the chemistry so much between them and the deep friendship and respect they had for one another. I love when Sarah slaps at the Doctor during and after he has pulled her out of the duct. Tom and Liz had that unique big brother/little sister relationship with just a hint of romance. "Ark In Space" is a great script and episode that holds up well even though they didn't have much of a budget for special effects. An excellent script and two very fine actors in Tom Baker and Liz Sladen along with a great Producer, like Philip Hinchcliffe, show what magic can be achieved in Doctor Who. God bless.

    • @colinmcphan
      @colinmcphan 8 лет назад +19

      I pretty much prefer all of Toms looks as the Doctor. I mean Tom just had the height and figure to bring out the best in clothing. Having said that this is my favorite look as well. Tom comes off (especially in his Doctor Who days) as a guy who would prefer casually clothing and looked great with the more casual look. I get the feeling Tom himself didn't like tight clothing or things around his neck. I noticed he would rub his neck a lot or pull on his collars. He admitted at a 1984 convention that he liked to sleep or relax in his apartment in nothing but his Birthday suit if you know what I mean 😆

    When Romana had returned in the form of Lalla Ward in Destiny of the Daleks, I thought the plot line, as written by Douglas Adams, was rather silly in the way they handled Romana's regeneration, like shopping and trying on a new dress or in this case a new body. Don't get me wrong, I love Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, but the Lala Ward's Romana introduction was typical Douglas Adams humor you can get away with in H.H.G.T.T.G. but lacks logic in Doctor Who. I thought it would have been better written to have the Key To Time effect Romana's transformation and since Astro was one of the segments, some how explain Romana's likeness to her.

    • @eurodara

    •  5 лет назад +1

      It is more likely Romana had to regenerate after the torture from the Shadow and she was holding off collapse.
      The changing of bodies was a parody of Tom Baker changing clothes in Robot

    • @zacmumblethunder7466
      @zacmumblethunder7466 5 лет назад

      @ I saw the changing of clothes scene again for the first time in 40+ years (still can't believe that number!) and was reminded that that was when I decided I would never like his Doctor. It was his delivery of the speech about homo sapiens in The Ark in Space that changed my mind. Jon Pertwee is my Doctor, but I have never been able to imagine him making that speech.

    • @zacmumblethunder7466
      @zacmumblethunder7466 5 лет назад

      @ Yeah, I'd seen the three Doctors, which was never going to show Hartnell at his best, and loved Troughton. But Pertwee was my Doctor and I was determined that nobody could replace him. I sort of reluctantly grew to really like Baker. But I still cringe at the clothes changing scene!

      Linda Taylor Back in the day when Tom went on as the Doctor it became a crazy worldwide event. It was crazy, but oddly, it was not easy to watch the episodes here in the U.S. Tried to view every past rerun here in the states on the local Public TV station at the one time they came on during the week. We didn't have immediate access to any new BBC TV at all. The evening local Public TV station broadcasts were "our only hope" as Princess Leia would say. I always knew that when we watched Dr. Who in the U.S., it had long been viewed back in England already. It felt like the studio tapes had to be sent by boat across the Atlantic first. But it was worldwide craze with Baker. A Tom Baker craze in Europe and Asia. Posters, toys, etc. If you wanted any toys/merchandise here in the U.S. it had to be specially ordered from overseas. Much more product marketing and merchandise here in the states for Dr. Who today. If you want new Dr. Who merchandise today, no problem.
