Both my mother and father, served The Branch of the Armed Forces of the United States. Yep, I was raised by Marines! I love this ensemble! Thank you, BachnerTrpt!
I used to play Sousa marches in high school band. And it was always fun to play American marches. We did it quite often because we had an exchange program. Cheers to our neighbours south of the border! Thank you for sharing.
Throughout my family history we served in all branches. My grandfather was a SeaBee, my great uncles were Marines. I had another in the Army Air Corp during WWII. This music personifies what it means to be an American. ~S~
I was fortunate enough to play this piece in the late 60s under the brilliant direction of the late , great John B Robbins. Magnificent memories indeed. Thanks very much...Oh and Semper Fi
Of all the military marching tunes I've ever heard - and I have heard my share over the years - this stirring song, performed in THIS STYLE by THIS BAND, must surely rate as one of the very best. Of course, Sousa having composed this grand piece - probably his best march-composition of all - has much to do with its widespread appeal. But this version makes me want to go enlist .. right here on the spot !!
I have photographs of my late Father carrying the National Colors of the 3rd Marine Division on parade in 1945. The Marines don't hand their flags to just anybody, you have to EARN the right to carry them. Whenever I hear this song, I think of my Father.
All politics and militarism aside, this is one of the greatest American marches EVER written!! Take a good listen to the TRIO section just after the drum solo.... Four distinctly different voices: Bouncy tubas behind a trumpet bugle call, next, a bunch of tweety tweaky woodwinds grace notin' all over the place and ending with the glorious 4th voice counter-melody belted out by the trombones and baritones!! All voices completely different yet syncronous. Certainly one of Sousa's favs & mine!!
2.10 minutos a 2.25 minutos era la cortina musical del noticiero de Radio Mitre de Argentina durante los 60 y parte de los 70 , cada media hora "Dos Minutos de Noticias" decia el locutor sobre esa cortina .-
This was the Audio Daily Double clue in the category "Composers" from July 19, 1991. The clue was "He wrote the following while employed by the U.S. Marine Corps:" The question is "Who is John Philip Sousa?"
Six bits has always been one of my favorite Sousa Marches! Thanks for putting this up! Semper Fidelis from a former Marine born 10 Nov! Oh, it's called six bits by us USMC Band types because it was Sousa's 75th march he composed.
Honor Courage Commitment are the core values of the navy as well, it was constantly shown while i was a NJROTC cadet at my high school, it was plastered onto the wall and every time i walked into the base, i saw those 3 values, Semper-Fi stands for the faith of the USMC's courage as the first to go in and the last to come out. 2 of the 3 cadres were from the navy and remind us of those values.
played this one and just about every other JPS march and I agree with my band teacher.. If you want to find the best trumpet player, play 6 JPS marches in a row.. the last one left standing is the best
I really like this version - as well as the Washington Post March. They have excellent fidelity and punch - just what a good march should have! Thanks!
Come On You Greens! American viewers may not be aware that Semper Fidelis is the tune that accompany my beloved football (soccer as you call it) team onto the pitch. Sends shivers down the spine.
the men in ww2 who fought, this song was around ya. But the sad part is the men died, and i asked my buddy who hitler was, and he said is he a movie star? Brought tears to think we fought and died, and no one know's ANYTHING.
@Korban3 Consider that Sousa was a composer of the Romantic period and try to put aside the patriotic trappings. The music has a beautiful dynamic and counterpoint.
Aw yeah. I was 3rd Cornet as well... During Cadet camp. I swear to god, Every time as well - my lips would fall off. Then we'd launch into a British march.
I remember playing this in my school concert band... I played the 3rd cornet piece and every time I'd play after the drum solo, my lips would feel like they were about to fall off... XD
I'm Canadian, and at first I had a real apprehension for listening to American patriotic songs... then I remembered that Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture is a RUSSIAN victory song, and so I guess if I can enjoy a Russian patriotic song, I can enjoy an alies' patriotic song. You yankees have great music; cheers, friends!
@Mortechai I believe it's called Thor's Helemet (because it looks like a viking helmet I guess). Oh and by the way I didn't know that off the top of my head It was a comment on another video with the same picture.
United States Army "This We'll Defend" United States Coast Guard "Semper Paratus" -Always Ready- United States Navy "Honor, Courage, Commitment." United States Marine Corps "Semper-Fi (Fidelis)" -Always Faithful- United States Air Force "Aim High...Fly, Fight, Win" US Navy SEALs "The only easy day was yesterday." Salute to our troops. Until the end
I cannot believe that people do not like this march. I love listening to it and enjoy playing it. Music like this is to be respected.
I was in the US Navy, and I'm presently in a marching band. This is the best march ever.
Throughout my family history we served in all branches. My grandfather was a SeaBee, my great uncles were Marines. I had another in the Army Air Corp during WWII. This music personifies what it means to be an American. ~S~
Semper Fidelis is a fantastic march: a work of art!
I was fortunate enough to play this piece in the late 60s under the brilliant direction of the late , great John B Robbins. Magnificent memories indeed. Thanks very much...Oh and Semper Fi

I played this song at my concert. If only we were that good...

Simplemente extraordinario.
Thank you......from Thailand/Chicago.
Honor, Courage and Commitment is actually the core values of the USMC. The Navy has no official motto.
I love Glenn Miller and all, but Sousa has to be one of the best composers of American music.
Esto es Deeeeeepooooorteeeeess en el reeecueeeerdooo.
I played this in the late 60s under the direction of the late, great John B Robbins. What exceptional memories. What a blast!
Our music centre played this for our Paris trip that has just recently happened, We even performed this at disneyland.
