Sometimes overlooked are the beautiful counter melodies in the lower brass in Sousa's marches, especially in the euphonium section. The pieces just wouldn't be the same without the counter melodies.

I NEVER TIRE OF HEARING THE SEMPER FIDELIS MARCH~I LOVE IT!
Wow… The trumpet section playing that amazing feature. Intonation was nearly flawless. Absolutely Incredible!
Eversince i heard the SEMPER FIDELIS....I could not help playing it over and over again...as i do...i try to analyze the mind of JPSousa...how he put the melody .the scoring...the variety of instruments to play the musical notes which are just so indescribably beautiful!!...i could not help beam with pride as i watched the cadets at West Point parade in review to this march of Sousa...Oh Lord...what great music from your divinely gifted son...whose musìc is our legacy forever...Thank you Father....Amen........FM

This is how it should sound - period.
Played by the Marine band at Sousa's grave every birthday on November 6. Marvelous.
Who's the guest trumpeter on the left?
That is John Hagstrom, 2nd trumpet of the Chicago Symphony, and former principal trumpet of the Marine Band.
@@Tigerwarhawk shouldn't he be wearing the uniform since he was a former member?
@@jessecohen4517 I have no idea what the military rules are, but this is a great sight to see and hear!
@jessecohen4517 once you are out/retired you take off your uniform
John was a guest artist for this concert. He was no longer enlisted, so he wore his Chicago Symphony concert "uniform." Great to see him here!
