My most favorite march is "Stars and Stripes Forever" because my mother played the piccolo part. I remember her practicing that part over and over and to this day I can sing that part. It never fails to bring me to tears. As I'm a professional violinist, I don't get to play that part but I always hear it and think of my mother.
Sousa was a master. I may go visit his grave today. He wrote the Illinois March for my Alma Mater as he loved their marching band, and left most of his belongings and archives to them.
I attended Sousa jr. High school in WASHINGTON D.C. yep played a lot of these marches in marching band, favorite phrase from director damn TUBA, ( ME) TOO LOUD!!! evil snicker from tuba. lol😂😂😂😂😂😂
In fairness both Herr Capt Souza & d Beatles may still be relevant by yr2200 but for d future music afficionados i wl dare predict d beatles songs wl b much more recycled... jst hoping d great Nostradamus sides wt me. 😅😊
Dude was indeed goated with the sauce. The etymology of the former sentence will doubtlessly be lost to time. Give it 50 years and literally nobody will be able to decipher it.
Ironically, Sousa didn't like to march! After leaving the Marine Band he was more interested in concert performances with his band.. The Sousa Band only marched one time. That was for the Sesquicentennial Exhibition in Washington, DC. in 1926.
That doesnt quite make sense in that none of Sousa's marches are concert marches - The concert march is along the lines of the sherman bros or strauss - where you might seat what we now call the concert band with the house strings and perhaps the novel brass or woodwinds (things like bassoons, English horn, etc.) If the house ensemble had it and there was a part for it. The custom dating from the first vieneese school was that string sections didnt travel with the exception of chamber strings which were borne out of street performance.
1967-1970 I played in 3 Marine Corps base bands...67-68 EL Toro 3rd MAW band...68-69 1st MAW band in DaNang, S Vietnam 🇺🇸🪖🇺🇸... And 69-70 Camp Pendleton CA with the band there. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 SEMPER FI 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I agree that both Invincible Eagle and Black Horse Troop are really good marches on their own, but they also aren't as well known or popular (I had not heard of Black Horse Troop before) even though I am a huge sousa fan. Thanks for the comment ❤

What a finish! I had to turn the volume all the way up. I remember playing some of those many years ago. Still enjoy them. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
When I hear music like this , I feel proud to be an American woman...from Fort Worth, Texas...
Sousa has to be one of the greatest composers in history...from Fort Worth, Texas
YEAH JACK TAR!!
Hope it does well in Sousa’s March Mania 2024 :)

We played a lot of his marches in high school and I loved them!
@annetuttle560 same! Last year in high school we played Manhattan beach for assessment
In the year 2200 the Beatles and Taylor Swift will be long forgotten but Sousa will be played as much as ever.
Real
Amen to that!
Wanna bet?

military friends..
Greatest Of All Time. I have grandsons
Marine band kept it pure, Bless them!
Sousa is the best of them all
I actually like it when the marches get very quiet, and then are followed by a forte passage.
Ik! It's literally the best part!

But what was his pt score?
Uno de los compositores de marchas marciales más famosos del mundo en dejar un importante legado en la extensión de la palabra.
A great week for this playlist
His father was from Seville, Spain. My City ❤
Love the snare drum rolls with the symbols

Recuerda mi época de juventud que integré la Banda de Música en el Bachillerato y tocaba Saxofón Barítono
Toco el saxofón alto
Just love Sousa!
Thanks for watching
So many ways to march to Sousa...
All the flourishes
The best ever
Best of all time! :)
Ever heard of Kenneth J Alford, think he wins this one!
It's a tie!
Dr. Sousa
All Souza did is great
Thanks so much for posting. My only surprise is to Jack Tar among the ten rather than, say, Invincible Eagle or Black Horse Troop.

JP SOUSA tinha o umbigo em Portugal.
Definitely not a Spanish composer
@@peternotarfrancesco2614 Spanish, i who wrote Spanish? I wrote Portuguese. Yes, he was of Portuguese descent. SOUSA.
Love Sousa indeed! Best marches ever! Drats to those who will mess with darn near perfect (John Williams can rot in a dark place))
Semper Fidelis IS the Official March of USMC! Souza wrote it and you forgot about that stating most of these were performed by US Marine Band!
Duhhh:Sousa
Whereas Liberty Bell is the Official March of MPFC
I wasn't sure which band performed the gladiator march, but all the others were for sure the marine corpse

What was his pt score, though?
Sorry i'm unfamiliar with pt score
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Will we ever get over Monty Python's use of "The Liberty Bell" as their theme music??? I can't even listen to it anymore.
Ни одного русского марша. Ставлю (-).
Semper Fidelis is not on the list???? Sousa was a Marine! C'mon...........
@timvarnadore2892 it's for sure top 15 though
