Crop rotation is a little hit-and-miss -- it's for sure a bummer when you get no-yellow, or a ton of yellow -- but it's WAY more fun to run than boring old harvest. Lots of tradeoffs and minor gambles you have to make, and it's often not completely obvious what the right move is (which is great). I wish the ~50% no-wilt thing was standard and harvest just worked like this all the time (without having to spend a div a map on a scarab, and was just tuned accordingly).
And it is also worth noting that you have a 60% chance to keep the purple plot, to potentially upgrade the two remaining yellow plots. 5 blue plants already more or less pays for the investment.
@@simonbelmont1539 With access to 60% chance to not wilt, CR should be head and shoulders better than normal now. I can empathize if you hate the variance and the mini game, but CR is insane with the imbued harvest craft.
I spent 15 thousand hours in the game , I've seen many guides, but this one is definitely the best. I have plans to return to Poe after skipping 3 league, so thank you for your work ;)
Love the educational content! There will always be guys like me that take several leagues to really “get” POE, so mid-league is every bit as valuable as the league start prep stuff. Moar!
@@ghoste000 Tujen is everything yes. He gives raw divines/chaos/annuls when you trade with him. And a ton of useful bubblegum currency thats very potent on leaguestart. Not to mention, it gives basically any other mechanics, fossils, breach splinters, contracts, etc. Rog is also broken on leaguestart, after that I ignore him completely. Gwenn is kinda uselles and Dannig gives more Tujen artifacts and coins. The coin itself is 4c. If you keep trading and trading you pretty much get your money back and convert artifacts into divines. Speaking of bubblegum currency, alterations rn are 5 for 1c. Tujen gives a ton of alts. If you stack them in bug bulk thats a lot of money. Also chisels, everyone needs chisels.
@@ghoste000 Being so lucrative comes with a downside tho. You must play a character that's tanky and ignores a lot of mods. Cold dot/RF/any other dot build and mines/traps are the best when it comes to this mechanic, because they are either tanky or blow the mobs before they spawn ( or both ). My cold dot trickster can stand in the middle of a juiced expe with deadly mods and my hexblast miner blows up the entire screen on mob spawn.
Just a small tipp for fighting bosses: I always had a hard time with especially yellow boss cause he wouldnt phase sometimes. Work around: When he spawns stop damaging, he wont do any fancy attacks then, but just follow u to autoattack u. Pull him to a bit more open space then unleash ur dmg to insta phase him. His phase needs space around him, if he doesnt have space he will start to glitch/not phase. With enough space the averge boss fighting time is reduced dramatically.
Any map with regen can (ie. Consecrated Ground) be rough/impossible to phase too -- unless you drop a Frost Bomb! I always have one in my inventory that I can swap in if I'm farming harvest bosses.
@@NotYourBusiness-bp2qn There are absolutely mods that prevent you from phasing the yellow boss. I've got plenty of damage for Harvest (50M+) but phasing the yellow boss on consecrated ground can still be hard. Not sure why you're being a dick, just trying to provide a helpful hint that's worked for me.
@@chriscarollo7816 50M is plenty enough to phase the yellow shit stain no matter the mods. When he bugs out he stops taking damage, I think that's what is confusing you.
Watched it twice now and wanted to comment based on your parting message. Technically I've only watched it about 1.5 times now because I only watched the later 2/3s each time. Once to run the cornucopia strat and again to double check if I was doing anything wrong and to switch to the imbued strat. I wasn't doing anything wrong nor was my expectation of the cornucopia strat vs the outcome misaligned. Just wanted to double check myself. I originally subbed because of your Frostblink Ignite Witch and basically emulated your Crucible builds to much enjoyment. What I really wanted to say though was that I found this piece you made particularly high quality. There has been a massive shake up that has caused an expansion of farming strats this league. I found it hard to find any content that covered an overarching strategy like this. From the medium end of T16 strat and went through it's progressions into T17s basically. A lot of content and tools developed by the community only accounted for T16 or Uber Boss farming. So I found this piece well made and well suited for what we needed as a POE community.
42:30 I think you need to choose purple or blue where yellow is lowest. for example the top right have 5 yellow tier3, and the middle right have 2 yellow tier3, So you will get more yellow life force if you not lucky like in this video
This was my main farming strategy for a while and the reason I was able to farm and pour a good amount of divines into the build I was playing. It’s insane how profitable this really is
Can't wait to try this. Have been thinking of running harvest for a bit now as I'm semi-ssf but I just always hated having to zoom into the harvest "world" and then back. Also I find necropolis league to be actually really funny, I think it's such a shame that last season, affliction, was so good and necropolis started out so 'poorly' in some sense. Would love for people to try it out, not sure what you guys think?
The problems with necropolis league are multifold. - crafting league. Which much of the playerbase doesn’t care about - the players that do care are annoyed by the tedium - many small annoyances with the UI - T17’s being poorly balanced (too much loot, too difficult for the average player. Awkward place in progression) - scarab changes making many comfy familliar strategies unviable. It took several weeks for this to really be figured out - The economy is *weird*. Which is good for some, bad for others. This due to the T17’s and power of necropolis - the lantern needing atlas investment. Which might’ve been fine on its own if not for the very awkward placement of the nodes - and of course: the many bugs and unintended interactions that still haunt the economy. Personally i’ve been enjoying it a lot. The wacky economy and for the first time making a build from scratch have made it real interesting. But i’ve also interacted way less with the necropolis mechanic than I hoped. The lantern also is near entirely neglible
I've been doing this strat for a bit however i've altered it and found the increase to be substantial. In the atlas i force the harvest and keep the scarab slot open and i use it for delirium, i complete the map get all the quant shrines then return to the entrance hit the mirror and kill everything to the harvest hop inside and do the process, roughly getting between 10-30% more quantity from delirium. (More Rippy for sure).

B2b is honestly broken in t17, but its not for everyone. Its more like a rich get rich situation, or strong builds are rewarded, which imo is fine and balanced. There is no reason to remove 1 singular node on the atlas tree just because a lot of builds cant use it. Just keep it for those who can.
Hey there, Just a quick comment :) You should definitely keep on doing that kind of atlas strat vids. Really in depths, still straight to the point, and not an excel spreadsheet video either as we can see so often from other content creators... :p Time stamps really spot on as well. I know harvest a lot more than essence for exemple, so i skipped quite a few bits in this vid without lacking information. Watched the essence one through and through since i don't know that mechanic as much. Maybe an expedition vid next? My mates pretty much all go for that early league, seems pretty strong... :) Cheers 😘
@subtractem Your guides are always well done and very informative. Do you happen to make league challenge guides ? I've been stuck, and a how-ro from a high level player like yourself would be invaluable. I got like 8/40 challenges so far for this season. Granted, I started really late because of working a lot but I would benefit from any good tips in a guide.
I've done them in the past but haven't for a while. Unfortunately they take a lot of work (the videos often go over an hour) and perform very poorly. What I would recommend is search on the Poe Reddit for the challenge guides that people make. There is usually a Google doc that has a ton of detail.
Would be interesting to see if dropping searching the quant alters as well as the Imbued scarab, going for pure crop rotation speed farming. A lot lower investment and quicker maps. I can’t see it being better but might be better for weaker builds
Great guide But a little note. The colors for the monster in the plot are their Tiers not their rarity. Vivid watchers never appear as T1 or T2 because he is a T3 monster. And doing crop rotation its far easier to see that T1's have rare monsters
are you sure that pack size affects the number of altars you get? Do you have a source? Because I suspect you get a chance to roll an altar once per pack, regardless of the size of the pack
My results with crop rotation without awakening scarab 200 cr 8mod maps: (avg) Y:2316,11 | B:289,38 | P:374,39 ||| 80 cr 8mod maps with awakening scarab (avg): Y: 5783 | B: 1083 | R:1500. It takes about 1 minute more to run this map. The scarab cost's 1div ( u can't buy for 100c if u want to buy more than 5), and price of harvest juice is dropping. It was 16div for a stack of yellow a few days ago, and now it's almost 13.5 div.
I don't understand the ppl complaining about "dead league". Theres less ppl playing but still plenty. I don't notice anything, except prices for some things being cheap as they exist in abundance.
The one thing I don't understand for gambling on a plot wilting: From what I can understand, doesn't it upgrade when you choose to actually harvest the plot, not when you select which to keep? So couldn't you pick the yellow plot, and if the 60% happens and the purple for example doesn't wilt, you can then pick to harvest that purple plot before the yellow you selected and still upgrade the yellow without actually risking anything.
tip and question here. first tip the bossing strat. The bosses dont phase at times bc they dont have enough room to do so. so drag them while fighting them and you will be ok. second question, do more alters drop the closer and earlier to doing a full circle. i feel as if after 5 to 6 maps of exarch or eater that the alters become much less common tell 5 or 6 maps are left then they show up a bunch. does anyone know?
Despite the blue altars giving quant, I dont agree with taking them. You gotta clear the map first in order to see 1 or 2 quant altars. And then you have to go back and enter the grove. You are better off just rushing to the harvest, maybe kill the boss if you really want and leave. I played with blue altars as well before, but its so annoying. Rarely you enter the map, you find an early quant altar and then you find the harvest. Also taking harvest chance is very point efficient and lets you use another type of scarab. You took niko and shrine nodes which play no role into this ( so wasted points, wasted farming power). Traded a scarab slot for some speed, you can just move quickly without those.
It really depends on the map but with something like Jungle Valley with a fast build it really doesn't add more than 30 seconds or so to the map and on average you're going to average about 70% quant per map. That is absolutely worth the small time investment. The harvest chance I can concede if you prefer that but since I so strongly prefer the Crop Rotation strat with the Awakening Scarab that point is moot in that case.
@@subtractem I farmed harvest in the last 5 leagues or so, I played the same exact map or dunes. Or other fast maps. I agree its a small time investment, but its still an investment. And its rly annoying in practice if you do it for a long time. Clicking the altars and going back to the harvest is just weird. And sometimes you can get 0 quant altars too, so there are inconsistencies.

@@ElMotorr You notice the difference, but if you farm a ton of maps very fast, going back and forth in that map results in less maps played, so in the long run you probably lose money... and lose your sanity. I did the same with expedition, because it works in the exact same way and its not fun to fish for the quantity and then go back to pop the expedition. And if you get 0 quant altars you feel like you cleared the entire map for nothing.

I know its 1 month after video but I think people still should know, sometimes the upgrade of plants bugs and you have to leave harvest or map and go back again to update the amount of monsters that the plant will spawn. I hope GGG will fix this because its really annoying.
There is a lot of good points in this video, but i don't agree with the conclusion - "crop rotation the best strat". I tried it on maps with 250+ quant 3 times and get mediocre results, like only 4.5k juice per map. Whlie in regular map you can easily get 2.5k with no investments whatsoever (only 7c scarab and 8mod map). If avakening scarab will costs 40c - it will be good, but for 100c it definitely overpriced.
I've been mixing Harvest in with a strongbox strategy for most of the league. No crop rotation for lack of points though, will have to give that a go I suppose.
@@AdzdevCrop rotation is suprisingly far away from some of the other harvest nodes. Depending on how he routed and what extra stuff he grabbed I can see it happening

Hi when including the HArvest nodes in my atlas and putting a tier 16 map into the device with a harvest scarab, the map cannot be activated. It says "map is of a different base type"
Harvest scarab is very cheap and there aren't many good scarabs to pair with harvest anyway so it is more optimal to use the harvest scarab and invest the atlas points in more quantity.
Im not sure that the cornucopia strat deserves as much of a downplay. Ive ran it pretty sollidly for about a month and it has really good returns. Im talking hundreds of divines and im a filthy casual who is loving having a bit of cash to throw around
The returns are fine but in my testing with current scarab prices the profit margin is just way higher on average with crop rotation. This can easily change if the awakening scarab gets more expensive.
The real question here is why would you use a Harvest Scarab when the Horned Scarab of Awakening allows u to get the Imbued Harvest that gives you the sacred groves 100%
I did a lot of cornucopia harvests and a bit of crop rotation .. I just wanna input my experience: Cornucopia is incredibly rippy, especially the yellow boss, I had a max block SRS Popcor necro and was able to survive him most of the time, but with some altars you can just get OS'd very easily and lose the entire harvest, depending on when u click the boss .. on that node, how to I get tankier against the yellow boss? I don't quite know why he one shots so many, even rather tanky RF chars etc. Regarding the Crop rotation .. i had streaks of like 5 maps+ where I need up barely making +/- 0 .. but the big payouts where sweet .. for slower builds cornucopia is definitely more reliable in my experience :) Cheers!
From my experience, yellow boss can oneshot you in only one case - you take a lot of extra dmg and reduced resistances. Otherwise even 400+ extra dmg as random element doesn't kill you. So reduced resistances really scary, other things not.
Me to myself: You should try new mechanics instead of always going for the same. Try something different than harvest and not expedition. Maybe beasts or ritual Subtractem: Hey harvest is mega lucrative this league!
I always wanted to try farming Harvest early league, but I can barely see a difference between the light blue text and the white text (and I wasn't even aware I had difficulties seeing some colors XD). Do you know if there is a way to change the colors or to make the difference more noticeable ? POE is an excellent game but I feel like it has some accessibilities issues, even for something as simple as colorbindness :/ I'm open to any tips... I'm not a HUGE computer tech and play on a laptop
You could look into using something like reshade or the Nvidia overlay filters to boost some colors. You can also memorize the names of the higher tier monsters so that you can tell at a glance as well. I'm with you on Poe having bad accessibility issues. Would be nice if it were something they put some effort into.

The Tier 3 plants look quite a bit bigger/different than the T1 and T2 plants in the plot, especially blue plants. Yellow T3s have bright yellow fruit compared to T2's orange fruit. Purple plants are the hardest to tell apart, but the T3s have more distinctive whiter thorns. You'll also become familiar with the names of T3 plants, especially Vivid Devourer, which are both annoying (burrowers) and dangerous because they can drop loads of pineapple mines.

My data:8,26/h (200maps) without awakening scarab and 8/h (60maps) with scarab. Without awakening scarab: 0,55div/map (4 minutes), with awakening scarab 0,68div/map (5 minutes) (scarab is 1div). Yellow juice dropped from 16 div to 13.5 div for stack, scarab is 1 div. Idk how ppl are making money with it. Maps had 305% quant in average (form 260 to 358 quantity).
Pffft Oshabi is a joke compared to Atziri. Atziri always has physical and elemental reflect, so if you don't have immunity to those then you have to play the fight carefully.
The problem with these guides is that he is running numbers in the end of an league which very few are playing. These numbers will not represent league start and the first 2-3 weeks. Sometimes it takes even 1 and a half month before harvest juice really starts to see value. Id say the best value if ure running harvest is to use the juice urself to craft fractured items with reroll or make chaos res rings or whatever items the metabuilds will need.
I literally say this in the video. The entire purpose of this guide is to live for hopefully multiple leagues and teach the mechanic, not as a one time thing.

But my point is that its a horrible strat for leaguestart, selling 30-40k juice at the start per div is straight up a waste of time, no one does that and its pretty rude suggesting people doing so. A bit more elaboration on harvesting in a leaguestart scenario would be more fair, how u could instead use the juice to craft or rerolling currency etc.
I also specifically say I would wait until at least week 2 to 3 before doing this strategy. I explicitly say that this isn't ideal right for league start.

Expedition is still the most lucrative mechanic in the game. The stacked deck hit is nothing.

I absolutely despise the color palette to display the monsters. Dark grey, light grey, and light blue?!?!? Why on earth would you do that?

I heard delirium doesnt affect the harvest. Only altars.

B2b is honestly broken in t17, but its not for everyone. Its more like a rich get rich situation, or strong builds are rewarded, which imo is fine and balanced. There is no reason to remove 1 singular node on the atlas tree just because a lot of builds cant use it. Just keep it for those who can.

@subtractem Your guides are always well done and very informative. Do you happen to make league challenge guides ? I've been stuck, and a how-ro from a high level player like yourself would be invaluable. I got like 8/40 challenges so far for this season. Granted, I started really late because of working a lot but I would benefit from any good tips in a guide.
I've done them in the past but haven't for a while. Unfortunately they take a lot of work (the videos often go over an hour) and perform very poorly.
What I would recommend is search on the Poe Reddit for the challenge guides that people make. There is usually a Google doc that has a ton of detail.

Would be interesting to see if dropping searching the quant alters as well as the Imbued scarab, going for pure crop rotation speed farming. A lot lower investment and quicker maps. I can’t see it being better but might be better for weaker builds
Great guide But a little note.
The colors for the monster in the plot are their Tiers not their rarity. Vivid watchers never appear as T1 or T2 because he is a T3 monster.
And doing crop rotation its far easier to see that T1's have rare monsters
are you sure that pack size affects the number of altars you get? Do you have a source? Because I suspect you get a chance to roll an altar once per pack, regardless of the size of the pack
My results with crop rotation without awakening scarab 200 cr 8mod maps: (avg) Y:2316,11 | B:289,38 | P:374,39 |||
80 cr 8mod maps with awakening scarab (avg): Y: 5783 | B: 1083 | R:1500.
It takes about 1 minute more to run this map. The scarab cost's 1div ( u can't buy for 100c if u want to buy more than 5), and price of harvest juice is dropping. It was 16div for a stack of yellow a few days ago, and now it's almost 13.5 div.
Did you block blue/purple or block yellow?
I don't understand the ppl complaining about "dead league". Theres less ppl playing but still plenty. I don't notice anything, except prices for some things being cheap as they exist in abundance.

The one thing I don't understand for gambling on a plot wilting:
From what I can understand, doesn't it upgrade when you choose to actually harvest the plot, not when you select which to keep? So couldn't you pick the yellow plot, and if the 60% happens and the purple for example doesn't wilt, you can then pick to harvest that purple plot before the yellow you selected and still upgrade the yellow without actually risking anything.
No, once you click for the wilting step you are forced to click it again to harvest it no matter what.
tip and question here. first tip the bossing strat. The bosses dont phase at times bc they dont have enough room to do so. so drag them while fighting them and you will be ok. second question, do more alters drop the closer and earlier to doing a full circle. i feel as if after 5 to 6 maps of exarch or eater that the alters become much less common tell 5 or 6 maps are left then they show up a bunch. does anyone know?
The third color is red. They are the primary colors.

How does harvest juice scale with map tier? is it similar in white and yellow maps?
Despite the blue altars giving quant, I dont agree with taking them. You gotta clear the map first in order to see 1 or 2 quant altars. And then you have to go back and enter the grove. You are better off just rushing to the harvest, maybe kill the boss if you really want and leave.
I played with blue altars as well before, but its so annoying. Rarely you enter the map, you find an early quant altar and then you find the harvest.
Also taking harvest chance is very point efficient and lets you use another type of scarab. You took niko and shrine nodes which play no role into this ( so wasted points, wasted farming power). Traded a scarab slot for some speed, you can just move quickly without those.
It really depends on the map but with something like Jungle Valley with a fast build it really doesn't add more than 30 seconds or so to the map and on average you're going to average about 70% quant per map. That is absolutely worth the small time investment.
The harvest chance I can concede if you prefer that but since I so strongly prefer the Crop Rotation strat with the Awakening Scarab that point is moot in that case.
@@subtractem I farmed harvest in the last 5 leagues or so, I played the same exact map or dunes. Or other fast maps. I agree its a small time investment, but its still an investment. And its rly annoying in practice if you do it for a long time. Clicking the altars and going back to the harvest is just weird. And sometimes you can get 0 quant altars too, so there are inconsistencies.

@@ElMotorr You notice the difference, but if you farm a ton of maps very fast, going back and forth in that map results in less maps played, so in the long run you probably lose money... and lose your sanity.
I did the same with expedition, because it works in the exact same way and its not fun to fish for the quantity and then go back to pop the expedition. And if you get 0 quant altars you feel like you cleared the entire map for nothing.

TIL the boss encounter has a "100%" drop rate of the Sacred Crystal. I'm 1/12 this league...
I know its 1 month after video but I think people still should know, sometimes the upgrade of plants bugs and you have to leave harvest or map and go back again to update the amount of monsters that the plant will spawn. I hope GGG will fix this because its really annoying.
There is a lot of good points in this video, but i don't agree with the conclusion - "crop rotation the best strat". I tried it on maps with 250+ quant 3 times and get mediocre results, like only 4.5k juice per map. Whlie in regular map you can easily get 2.5k with no investments whatsoever (only 7c scarab and 8mod map). If avakening scarab will costs 40c - it will be good, but for 100c it definitely overpriced.
I've been mixing Harvest in with a strongbox strategy for most of the league. No crop rotation for lack of points though, will have to give that a go I suppose.

@@AdzdevCrop rotation is suprisingly far away from some of the other harvest nodes. Depending on how he routed and what extra stuff he grabbed I can see it happening

Hi when including the HArvest nodes in my atlas and putting a tier 16 map into the device with a harvest scarab, the map cannot be activated. It says "map is of a different base type"
Wandering Path Harvest was so much more fun for me, so sad they deleted it.

Harvest scarab is very cheap and there aren't many good scarabs to pair with harvest anyway so it is more optimal to use the harvest scarab and invest the atlas points in more quantity.
Im not sure that the cornucopia strat deserves as much of a downplay. Ive ran it pretty sollidly for about a month and it has really good returns. Im talking hundreds of divines and im a filthy casual who is loving having a bit of cash to throw around
The returns are fine but in my testing with current scarab prices the profit margin is just way higher on average with crop rotation. This can easily change if the awakening scarab gets more expensive.

The real question here is why would you use a Harvest Scarab when the Horned Scarab of Awakening allows u to get the Imbued Harvest that gives you the sacred groves 100%

I did a lot of cornucopia harvests and a bit of crop rotation .. I just wanna input my experience: Cornucopia is incredibly rippy, especially the yellow boss, I had a max block SRS Popcor necro and was able to survive him most of the time, but with some altars you can just get OS'd very easily and lose the entire harvest, depending on when u click the boss .. on that node, how to I get tankier against the yellow boss? I don't quite know why he one shots so many, even rather tanky RF chars etc.
Regarding the Crop rotation .. i had streaks of like 5 maps+ where I need up barely making +/- 0 .. but the big payouts where sweet .. for slower builds cornucopia is definitely more reliable in my experience :)

From my experience, yellow boss can oneshot you in only one case - you take a lot of extra dmg and reduced resistances. Otherwise even 400+ extra dmg as random element doesn't kill you. So reduced resistances really scary, other things not.

I always wanted to try farming Harvest early league, but I can barely see a difference between the light blue text and the white text (and I wasn't even aware I had difficulties seeing some colors XD). Do you know if there is a way to change the colors or to make the difference more noticeable ?
POE is an excellent game but I feel like it has some accessibilities issues, even for something as simple as colorbindness :/

You could look into using something like reshade or the Nvidia overlay filters to boost some colors. You can also memorize the names of the higher tier monsters so that you can tell at a glance as well.
I'm with you on Poe having bad accessibility issues. Would be nice if it were something they put some effort into.

The Tier 3 plants look quite a bit bigger/different than the T1 and T2 plants in the plot, especially blue plants. Yellow T3s have bright yellow fruit compared to T2's orange fruit. Purple plants are the hardest to tell apart, but the T3s have more distinctive whiter thorns. You'll also become familiar with the names of T3 plants, especially Vivid Devourer, which are both annoying (burrowers) and dangerous because they can drop loads of pineapple mines.
it's hard for me to tell the difference :) I usually look at the plants to see what shape they have.

My data:8,26/h (200maps) without awakening scarab and 8/h (60maps) with scarab.
Without awakening scarab: 0,55div/map (4 minutes), with awakening scarab 0,68div/map (5 minutes) (scarab is 1div).
Yellow juice dropped from 16 div to 13.5 div for stack, scarab is 1 div. Idk how ppl are making money with it. Maps had 305% quant in average (form 260 to 358 quantity).

The problem with these guides is that he is running numbers in the end of an league which very few are playing. These numbers will not represent league start and the first 2-3 weeks. Sometimes it takes even 1 and a half month before harvest juice really starts to see value. Id say the best value if ure running harvest is to use the juice urself to craft fractured items with reroll or make chaos res rings or whatever items the metabuilds will need.
I literally say this in the video. The entire purpose of this guide is to live for hopefully multiple leagues and teach the mechanic, not as a one time thing.

But my point is that its a horrible strat for leaguestart, selling 30-40k juice at the start per div is straight up a waste of time, no one does that and its pretty rude suggesting people doing so. A bit more elaboration on harvesting in a leaguestart scenario would be more fair, how u could instead use the juice to craft or rerolling currency etc.
I also specifically say I would wait until at least week 2 to 3 before doing this strategy. I explicitly say that this isn't ideal right for league start.
