Confronting an Internet Scammer

- If the refund scam is one of the worst types of scam, then deliberately holding someone's PC to ransom to force a victim into compliance must be one of the most horrible tactics these scammers can employ. But what is better than travelling to meet an Internet scammer face to face?

You mean the bank didn't wanna pay it back
@@zeze3305that doesn't make any sense to me, the bank wouldn't have to pay anything back if she got scammed. The money isn't their problem anymore when she took it out by her own volition...
@@cataclysm7256depends on the country I believe... in some countries, the banks have legal responsibility to return a certain amount if you get scammed/or there's a recession

@@thomasjones6216 I suppose they could be liable for damages if they didn't plaster enough warnings but I don't think any bank would forget to do that. My bank regularly sends me anti fraud reminders, "never share your info with anyone, always verify with us in person or on the number at the back of the card" etc. Of course, I'm not gonna fall for a scam like that but they have their bases covered. I suppose if their insurance covers being a complete idiot with your info/money then yeah they might probably see some of it back down the line, but I wouldn't count on it.
Must have been a weird as fuck scenario, getting some call from a British guy with a complicated story about an ongoing scam. Respect to the guy for taking it seriously.
The irony of the scammer wearing a “Being Human” t-shirt, a brand created by a Bollywood star who is well-known as abusive, misogynistic, violent, and killed people while drunk-driving, is too much for me to handle.
unironic that scammers idolized such a scum of the earth

How can you look at that little old lady and still go ahead and steal her money?
No souls, no conscience.
I honestly think that being horrible to them adds a whole new layer. You are stealing the money of the elderly, and threatening them, cursing at them, scaring them? Insane.

I nearly couldn't control my rage. That is unspeakably disgusting
This guy is basically a vigilante hero . He helps people without them even knowing it .
Yeah, Jim does important work.
If we are going off of definition, he IS a vigilante and a hero.
Jim + SE CYBERSAFE = No more Scammers (SAFE)
He is doing mildly illegal acts (remotely controlling pc without permission) without the permission of the police (which is why he hides his face, I think) so he literally is a vigilante.
He is the best. I wish they could just shut down this foolishness. I get calls all day about car warranties. All day! One guy bullied me hahahah.
This should be on TV, on every station, to educate about the danger of scammers.
100% good idea
He was on TV. The BBC did an episode with the evidence that Jim gathered.
I am in full agreement with this statement. There should be a documentary about all this.
Maybe the Game Show Network could produce a regular show like these, some kind of competition.

These scammers are evil AND stupid. If he can “prove” that he can take all of her money but just as an example and then send the money back, why not take the “refund error” money back then?
They have the power to completely zero out a customers money in their back, however they can’t just take back the mistake instead of needing gift cards or sending actual money.
And yet the scam works, so maybe they aren't so stupid after all.
What they are, though, is _heartless._

Patricia also likely knew it was a scam before she went to the bank given that she said I'd tell them that it's for a car loan.

pychologically those statements make sense tho. he is telling his victim that he could rob his money, while also telling him that he does not want to do that and just wants the money he sent too much by accident back, without going an illegal route, which makes the victim trust him.
i mean, why would someone go that way if he could just take all of the money anyways?
obviously, this requires the victim to be pretty gullible and have little to no tech knowledge, which is also the reason why many of the victims of those scams are elderly people.
If you mention this, they will say, that they can only take all the money, not only some of it.

Saving as many victims as you can.
Love what you do. 💘
It saddens me that people don’t get suspicious with “don’t tell anyone about the refund or me”. And the fact that people don’t know banks are protected by the federal government
Ikr?! Like that would send major red flags
Wait until you're old and senile.
@@jinxterx oh I know. I know it’s not their fault. It’s just a part of the age and technology barrier. It’s just sad it happens.
@Dalton Roadhouse Maybe, but I doubt it. I know a loooooottt of 20-40 year olds that still know absolutely nothing about a computer. I think I they’ll still exist, but be less common as there will be less money in it for them.
@Dalton Roadhouse - it will be new technology and new scams. Well before the internet there were 'snake-oil' salesman and postal/phone fraud.

Absolutely true!
He probably has it with the subs and patreon lol but he deserves every penny!
Never Heard Of Karl Rock?.. Okay?
He deserve a mass team funded by Indian government to clean up their trash
From the NY Times mag article:
“On several occasions, I’ve tested this theory by letting the voice on the other end go on for a few minutes before I suddenly interrupt with a torrent of Hindi curses that I retain full mastery of even after living in the United States for the past two decades. I haven’t yet failed to elicit a retaliatory offensive in Hindi.”
My god, you HAVE to do a collaboration video where he does exactly this, would make me laugh so hard. Top notch article.
Oh, pretty please ;)
wish i can hear the "mouth wars" go on
Amen, congrats Jim, stay safe and keep up the great work.

They don't tell other people what they are doing until they become a fool
🐹
Interesting. Bengali is spoken on Kolkata.
Hindi is sort of the universal language. I think it's interesting that the 20+ languages in India are dispersed in a really patchwork way.
I would love to see and hear that call.
You are the man, doing awesome work and hopefully making a difference. Keep it up!
You are amazing, you brought tears to my eyes with this video. This is heartbreaking, I wish a plague onto these scammers.
Damn you're fine asf 😆

Task Failed Successfully
I think he only does it because RUclips would close his account otherwise. They didn't give permission to be on video and RUclips doesn't care if he's doing it for morally just reasons.
@@cyqry what I'm trying to say is he did censor them but you can still fully make out their face.
@@sinfulwrath666 Fair point.
But there was at least an attempt at censorship so Jim can’t get screwed over by false DMCA!
@@mr.personalspace7831 thats the whole point of the meme
