The actress that played Doris died a few years before this was made so a nice tribute to both character and actress.
Neil the baby has changed quite a bit too. He is the baby that starred as Neil when he was born.

With a 9 years gap between the end of season: 3 (2010) and this Christmas Special (2019) it’s amazing that they looked as good as they did. There has naturally been speculation that they can’t leave it like that, with Nessa down on one knee, so you never know if another ‘Special’ might ultimately finish the chapter for us. After all, James Corden is reportedly not renewing the Contract for his US Talk Show as he plans to return to the U.K. - so, he and Ruth might get the creative juices flowing again, for one more, we live in hope!
James Corden said in a interview that he wants to do 1 more special so we might see smithy and nessa get married but it's not confirmed yet

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but the writers of the show, (Smithy & Nessa), were not sure that the family surnames would make it past the censors. If you are not aware, look up Dr.Harold Shipman, Fred West and Peter Sutcliffe. In fact, they even called him Pete Sutcliffe in the show 😂😂😂
I think of Gavin and Stacey as such a British sitcom love the fact that you love it too

It's nearly Christmas 2022 and I'm still not over the ending. I've heard whispers about another episode, but allegedly Ruth Jones shut that idea down. In a way, I think keeping the ending open to the imagination like they did with the end of season 3 is fitting.
I was sure they would do a 2020 special or a 2021 special .. praying we get a 2022 one to find out what happens!

I was just as frustrated by the ending as you were! I'm still hoping they do a season 4, or at least another Christmas special, but as James Corden is too famous for the show now, I don't think it'll happen sadly. I'm just gonna pretend Smithy dumped his girlfriend and married Nessa 😂

I wasn't that into this Christmas special tbh, maybe cause it wasn't set in the 00's still like the other ones. I mean they even had to cut parts out, to make the woke squad happy. I also felt like cause it had been so long and there had been rifts between some actors on there, the dynamic wasn't the same. Still I've seen worse comeback specials, but I must say I adored Nessa during this special. That end bit was just so lovely

I'm sure they'll be another one. I get the feeling there was going to be one last year or the year before but Covid had other ideas. It's never been confirmed mind but I get the impression it was at least being written.

I’m not sure how old Nessa is supposed to be but Ruth Jones is something like twelve years older than James Cordon. I was surprised to learn that, she really doesn’t look it.
Though Smithy’s first comment on Nessa was “How old is it?” so they’ve never pretended she isn’t.

Yeah, I know one of the cast (not gonna mention who), but they said that unfortunately there is no plan to do anything else with Gavin and Stacey, this is how it was supposed to end.
A number of people have said they saw alot of the cast filming in Wales, so maybe that person could've been just trying to throw people off

Didn't really feel the new gf thing they did. Seemed like a quick grab at sympathy by throwing in an unlikeable character for 10 minutes.
And keeping Smithy on a tight leash made him less entertaining. I get that's the point, but it's just a one off episode for characters to come back and do their trademark bits.
