This is a 90s classic, a song that will never grow old. It will be played for ever.
Such a deep song. You will enjoy R.E.M everybody hurts. Powerful song.
Impossible challenge name a bad rem song
@@sevenlegion12I know! Uhm, wait... Give me a second... frick, here is your bet money.
one of my favourite songs of all time. it just hits the spot perfectly, stipe's voice is very unique but amazing
This song has been an anthem for so many causes, but you got the “intended” meaning right away
Hope this guy blows up on the internet because of his expressions. It feels like he’s actually there with me giving to the song😂
You're my new favourite channel. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. It's awesome to be able to experience these songs again for the first time vicariously through you. I'd love to see anything by MUSE, Semisonic - Closing Time, Pixies - Where is my mind, Incubus - Drive, Mike Shinoda... So many, I'll be back with more.
Every year I grow older, Rock & Metal music has another meaning for me…
Rock is the display of reality…
It connects us to the artist and what they want to explain us, thus making me realize who they are!
Omg this song! I was born in ‘85. Back in the day, we used to have the alarm clocks that woke us up to the radio. I used to always want to sleep with my mom. I remember being in like 2nd grade waking up to this song. And I really liked it. I free up listening to hip hop and r and b but I really like this song.
He’s talking about falling into addiction because of the pressures of life, fame, etc. and the struggle of recovery, that’s what the slip is about . R.E.M. stands for “Rapid Eye Movement” the phase of deep sleep when we dream.
The band is from Georgia in the US. The phrase losing my religion is a southern expression that basically means "losing my shit."
😂 People never know that. lol It definitely makes more sense when you know that.
I always thought it was a song about the end of a relationship. As in, losing the "religion" that a couple establishes as their relationship of "them". If that makes sense. Hello from the deepest south.
One of my favorite new RUclips channels! I feel like I'm walking through a playlist from my youth, and taking you on the walk with me. Love it Bruv!
Damn you figured out the meaning of this song lightning quick! Awesome review and appreciation for this classic! I gotta sub now 👍👍
Losing My Religion, released as the first single from the R.E.M.’s 1991 album Out of Time is definitely a remarkable song. With its beautiful, and rather surreal music video, it listed 4th on The Billboard Hot 100, was nominated for several Grammy Awards from which won two, and was constantly spun on the MTV.
The music video was directed by an Indian director - Trasem Singh, who admitted that it was modeled after the Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings in which an angel crashes into a town and the villagers have varied reactions to him. The clip has a moody art house feeling to it, and was created in a style of a type of Indian filmmaking, where according to Stipe everything would be “melodramatic and very dreamlike”. The video was also based on the inspirations drawn from an Italian painter Caravaggio, as the scenes from the clip strongly resemble the style of the painter’s work, and filled with religious motives and tableaux, or, so called “living images” portraying Indian deities.
Many controversies occurred with the song’s questioning of faith, however unlike it may seem, it actually is about unrequited love. The phrase “losing my religion” is an expression from the southern region of the US, that means “at my wit’s end,” meaning as if things were going so bad you could lose your faith in God
I didn't know tarsam singh directed the video. I also never knew the meaning of the song. Thank you for the facts 😊
Recently rediscovered this song. And loved this reaction. We watch reactions to see if someone also see hear and feel what you do when listening to something. You got a new fan. Love that you seem genuine with the reaction. Keep it up bruv. Props all the way frm South Africa
I've never interpreted this song the way you just interpreted, my mind is blown!
R.E.M Stands for Rapid Eye Movement. Something that happens when you have brain activity whilst asleep like when you are dreaming.
Enjoy your channel, you’re currently going through a number of my favourite songs. Its great to revisit them from your fresh perspective.
R.E.M. admitted that's not what the band name stands for
So funny, I've watched a few fresh reactions to this track and this is the best so far.
Its about throwing away everything you believe in so you can believe in something new. The conflict you hear is the conflict we all feel when we realise maybe your wrong and it might not hurt to change. Love this song my whole life
It’s a southern saying 🫶
He told Q that "Losing My Religion" is also about "someone who pines for someone else. It's unrequited love, what have you." Stipe compared the song's theme to "Every Breath You Take" (1983) by The Police, saying, "It's just a classic obsession pop song.
I was on the floor 🤣just at the intro, love it boss😂😂👍🏽🫶🏽
you would love midnight oil i think!!! check out "blue sky mine," "us forces" and "sometimes"!
You are officially my favorite RUclips music reactor...absolutely love your genuine takes and your observation of the best things about the songs
Oh yeah...Can't forget the amazing freestyles!
R. E. M. Stands for Rapid Eye Movement
Love your reaction!😊
Thanks for a very entertaining channel!! As someone in later life with time on my hands, I spend a lot of time watching review channels....yours is brilliant!!😀
I learned it on ukulele. One of my favorites.
One of the best bands ever! All songs have meaning
REM was very popular on college radio stations in the 80's. And broke through into mainstream radio. They hail from Georgia.
Ive watched a shiz ton yur vids and Ive NEVER EVER EVER HEARD YOU DO THIS bahaha I LOOOOOVED THE ENDING hahaha. Love you havin fun with it 😄
R.E.M. is from Georgia in the USA. Fucking love this song
Over 30 years later I still haven’t worked it out and I am still in awe
The live version of this is amazing.
If you grew up in the USA, this is one of the songs you know from road trips with your parents in the 90s
The fact you've never heard this track is just sad to me and the song inst exactly a joyous song
R.E.M has a smooth sound; this is the kind of music I enjoy listening to when on a long trip. Also is a good vibe, but I haven't a clue what the song means...lol Wonder if you'd be interested in listening to "Simply Red - Holding Back The Years (Live at Montreux Jazz Festival ) 1992" Mick Hucknall is English and is the lead singer. He achieved International fame in the 1980's. He has an extensive collection to listen too. Your fun 👀 from across the pond 🙋♀️💖🎸
Great reaction. If I may make a suggestion, could it be R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts". Just curious, are you a Brit as well? I was made in Essex, but ended up being born in the states, so just wondering. If you are, drop by my old pub in Braintree and say hi to my old mates lol. You already hit my favorite band RUSH with Tom Sawyer, maybe think about "Spirit of the Radio" as well. BTW R.E.M. is from Athens Georgia here in the States.
Bro you're awesome!! 😂🤘🤘
Man I love your journey into the world of rock n roll. Might interest you to know that the lead singer of REM was/is gay, and REM were big at a time where that was very much criticised and frowned upon so his songs have a lot of hidden meaning to them. He only came out as being gay very late in their career.
Makes your comment so much more relevant when you say rock has way more meaning than just guitars, drums, and shouting. Rock n metal is awesome!!!!!
This is just a dream. ❤🦄
Actually waiting for ur every video! Content is fire - Keep it up man
I like your videos. A lot of your music is stuff which I grew up to and its nice to have someone listen to it with a different background - it gives me another perspective at this music. Aaaa and please do a reaction to Tina Dico "Count to ten"
You are Amazing.
Atlanta GA
love that smile when you listen to the lyrics.
A friend told me a funny story.
He was always a country music fan. But while stationed in Georgia, his friends would take him out to this nightclub where rock bands would play. Including REM.
Now normally a band as big as REM wouldn't be caught dead at such a place. But REM got their start there. And really liked the owner.
But my friend had no idea who they were. And he remarked at one point "I bet this band might be big someday. They are really good!"
Somebody had to tell him he was listening to a Top 40 band already.
r.e.m from Georgia usa they've been around since late 80s but this album came out in the 90s
Your funny, like it. Cheers from holland
I take the song as if he is a cared of what he thinks the masses will think of him if he says he REALLY believes in God or religion and also what he thinks God may think of him and his actions… but I’m on shrooms rn😂😂😂
It’s about losing your faith in someone
I just listened to this song and thought " im gonna check if Nathan Brown did This song reaction yet. Haha this is an o.g. one 4 me. My dad listened to this also and i wa sbrougjt up on itm deeper meaning completely! 80s /90's just R-E-M the initials.. i absolutely love them uuugh.. very amazing band i was born 81 and i was a young kid listening to this in elementary school so 80s and 90s haha.. Epic by Faith No More, it's a good entry song into Faith No More and the lead singer has one of the best vocal ranges in music
I'm Losing My Religion is a saying in the South of the U.S.A. It means i'm at the end of my rope.
As a fellow drummer (not a good one at all), this is a super fun track for band practice! Keep posting awesome content 🔥
Think he's talking about a friend struggling with addiction or depression.
He barely gets anything out and his friend is getting defensive or mad...hence 'oh no, I've said too much, i haven't said enough'.
ok lmao..freestyle haahaha love it
You can pinpoint the moment this became 1 of his jams
Rapid Eye Movement - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid_eye_movement_sleep
This song is about lack of civility in general, he's playing with words of religious lexical field since "loosing my religion" means losing temper, civility.
They from Athens, Georgia. So many good bands out of there
🙋🏻♂️here
Great song! Watch the official video.....brilliant!!!
Losing my religion is southern slang for losing my shit
Would love to see your reaction to tool's pnuema, the Danny Carey view by vic firth
90's and it's R.E.M.
R....E....M. Just say the initials. From Athens, Georgia. US.
Rapid eye movement, during deep sleep yours eyes move rapidly from left to right
Losing my religion means to lose someone's cool aka getting angry. It's a southern expression
If you get a chance
KALEO is a band I think you'd like...
Way down we go
and
Break my Baby
are 2 good ones
R.E.M. = rapid eye movement, 1st stage of sleep. Losing my religion, a southern term meaning, I'm losing my patience,, at my end.
R.E.M actually means :Rapid Eye Movement" like when you're in R.EM. sleep 🤫
Violent Femmes Blister in the Sun Live
Please do Bob Dylan - like a rollin stone
Love you reactions dude😂
Not heard of REM, we'll he'll know
Please thank your bradda
This is the only Love Song Micheal Stipe ever wrote. He always said he would never write love songs because they were so unoriginal and standard. He is losing his religion being in love with this women and it was just a dream that he thought he say her try….
Amazing band!!
REM - rapid eye movement
You gotta to have an impressive emotional intelligence to be able to pick up on the ideas the song is conveying on the first listen.
Bro Love the channel!! Check out out KORN-Freak on a Leash
Basically he’s watching someone he loves suffer depression to a severe degree and doesn’t know if he’s doing too much or too little. And loses faith both in himself and his God because of it. And every time he thinks it’s getting better, truth is it doesn’t. And the spiral begins again.
Actually it's more of an unrequited love and obsession song. The term "losing my religion" is another way of saying "losing my temper" or "losing my composure" expressing frustration with himself and the woman he's pining over.
You see it your way, I’ll see it mine.
@@Deemonaalot
Stipe has repeatedly stated that the song's lyrics are not about religion. The phrase "losing my religion" is an expression from the southern region of the United States that means "losing one's temper or civility" or "feeling frustrated and desperate."[11] Stipe told The New York Times the song was about romantic expression.[12] He told Q that "Losing My Religion" is about "someone who pines for someone else. It's unrequited love, what have you."[13] Stipe compared the song's theme to "Every Breath You Take" (1983) by The Police, saying, "It's just a classic obsession pop song. I've always felt the best kinds of songs are the ones where anybody can listen to it, put themselves in it and say, 'Yeah, that's me.'"
From The Wikipedia page. Although, you're right, music is about finding personal meaning.
I didn’t mention religion. I mentioned a loss of faith in HIMSELF and God -an entity typically used in metaphor regarding authority and society standards. But go off fam.
@@Deemonaalot yeah I was just copy pasting from the article
Play The DOORS - The End
