Hi!! If you liked this, try mofongo de yuca
should we chop up the thyme as fine as you? or a little less than you?🤨
This Bajan gyal right here is HYYPPPEEE. I can eat plantains and avocadoes all day. Shout out to all my Caribbeans and Africans 🇧🇧 🇯🇲 🇹🇹 🇭🇹 🇩🇴 🇵🇷 🇨🇺 🇭🇳🇳🇪 🇳🇬 🇸🇩 🇱🇾 🇬🇭
Antiguan! I am the same. We have the best and healthiest foods! Caribbean/African healthy diet!

African here, that's what's up !!
African🇰🇪👌🏾👌🏾💥💥💥❤️
I hope every African sees this, the way we love plantains 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Mmmhmmm plantains for breakfast, plantain for lunch and plantains for dinner 🤤😂😂
So do Indians, especially in the south👍🏽😁

Caribbean here 🤗!
Include Dominicans, Puerto Ricans and everyone in the Caribbean 🙌
I can watch Gaz cook all day,. I love his energy, creativity and passion for cooking. Looks fabulous, thank you Gaz for sharing!!
❤❤❤❤❤
He can cook cardboard and I would watch🤣
Very very passionate
I like how you mixing the ingredients
As a vegan Rican I am proud! And I can't wait to try this recipe.
So you’re from Vegan Rica? ☺️👏👏💚🌱🍀✅👏👏(that’s so cute❣️)
Thank you it was so good.
Oi from Puerto Rico here, I would say my favorite dish is mofongo. Would like to see it in vegan version.
That's what I was.looking.for!!! Someone at work, from PR, brought some to me to try. OMGosh, fantastically delicious!
I was craving pastelon but was feeling lazy so I made canoas instead-split the plantain down the middle but not the whole way thru so that it looks like a canoe fry it making sure to get hot oil in the middle so that it cooks in the middle then when it's done you fill it with the "meat" add cheese if u want and enjoy! They're so good!
I love plantain! Here in the Caribbean we use a lot of plantain.
Flaming Basketball Club - OMG, they do, I LOOOOVE plantains❣️ I’m in Norway though... ☺️💚🌱🍀✅👏👏👏😋
@@FlamingBasketballClub yes
So good!!!!😋😋😋
Delish
@@FlamingBasketballClub Yes it does and it is very sweet. I did a video on my channel on making plantain bread, plantain pie and fried plantain. Feel free to check it out, I think you would like it!
“Level seven thousand vegans...”😭😭😭
Mushrooms in replace- easily!!!
my colombian ass loved this! plantain is my favorite thing in the planet 🙈
some recipes for you guys to try:
1. Plátano en tentación: Plantain cooked in water initially and then cooked in a "panela" syrup with cinnamon
2. Add it to every soup (green plantain only), but never cut it with a knife. Cut it with a wooden spoon
3. Plátano al horno: pop it in the oven (wrapped in aluminum foil) but cut it a little and stuff it with cheese and bocadillo (guava candy thingy)
4. Aborrajados: cook them in oil at a low temp until soft and then crush them (like when you make patacones/tostones) and then fill them with cheese and bocadillo o with a meaty guiso. Close them up and fry at a high temp
5. PLEASE add it to your lentils 😍
Lentils! Mind blown. I’m running out to buy one now!
Uy, delicioso platanitos. Tenemos que probar para las fiestas que se avecinan. 🇨🇴❤
I love you for this 😍

@@jackie9068 hehe I would love that 6v6 @avantgardevegan hit me up!
you and rachel ama should make the ultimate plantain 3 course meal !
Im from Puerto Rico and I can say than when you said Plantain Lasagna I said: Pastelon
We also have the canoas. Which the plantain is opened in the middle and filled with meat and other things
And the Plantain bun... Wr have a restaurant called El Platanal that have the sandwiches with fried plantain as buns.
The plantain bun is LIFE!!!
Joel Beauchamp That’s incredible ! It all sounds delicious . A Plantain bun is a fantastic idea , especially for Coeliacs like myself . I always find it hard to eat out ( except at Indian restaurants ) as I’m a vegetarian too. The restaurants always have fish and meat for coeliacs but nothing vegetarian . At the most you get GF pasta , cooked very badly!
@@cherrymetha3185 I agree with you! There are other things like mofongo which is fried plantain mashed and you can top it off with stir fried vegetables or tofu or beans😋
I think the plaintain sandwich og got famous at a restaurant called el Platano Loco
Hiiii!!! I’m puertorican and your Pastelón looks amazing!!! And the fritters we call them Arañitas (little spiders) hahaha. You should definitely try to make Mofongo, another puertorican dish made with plantains and most definitely you should come to Puerto Rico and try al the vegan places we have here with puertorican food! Love your channel, recipes and food!!!
Thanks for sharing... I love plantains.. I’m from Jamaica 🇯🇲 vegan is the way to go... definitely will try that lasagna..
Can we appreciate how genuine and real these videos are? It is just so great to see you get so much more comfortable in front of the camera! Makes me happy
oh yum ... PLANTAINS!!! just plain fried plantains are the best and vegan as well. 💜💙💜
Even as a sandwich 😌
@@cookielove8174 sounds great - have never had, but grew up eating plenty of banana sandwiches ... similar :)
Can we all take a moment and appreciate how on point Gaz's videos are! ART!
I’m sure the vegan meat was seasoned. But for a true P.R “pastelon”, I will use “sofrito” and a Sazon for seasoning.
That’s cool! I wasn’t making a traditional pastelón! I found out about pastelón after creating my recipe, so there will be big differences between what I made and a pastelón! I’m Interested to learn more about 🇵🇷 cuisine ❤️❤️ Gaz
Esssoooooo lolol🤪🍻🤷🏼♀️💕
This is close enough and healthier love this version ❣️
@@gazoakleychef lots of dope vegan Boricua restaurants in the island and here in NYC we have and all vegan spot called Pocion Lounge which does old school all vegan craft drinks and traditional Caribbean vegan dishes that you would drool over. I've shared my vegan Puerto Rican recipes on my IG. Pastelon is the best and like the sis stated above Sofrito is the basis of all if our cooking. As vegan as it can get.
@@KayLoveBX thank you for mentioning this! I’m definitely going to check them out later
THANK YOU FOR PRONOUNCING PLANTAIN ACCURATELY ❤️ Much love from Trinidad & Tobago🇹🇹 and the rest of the Caribbean
haha I noticed that. It's like mountain and fountain not like complain or maintain 👍
@@sandrallewellyn2632 explained perfectly!! Thank you, hopefully my ears won’t have to be offended by the mispronunciations!😩
That lasagna is going into my rotation no question!
Is not lasagna is called Pastellon
Here in PR we start that recipe with plantains and end it with plantains!! That gives a base! Thank you for doing one of our most delicious plantains recipes.
I love how Gaz's kitchen is full of plants! 🌱🌿
We’re a half Puerto Rican household, one of the fav dishes is mofongo!
So I am Panamanian 🇵🇦 and Platano is our thing. Arroz con Pollo or coconut rice with back beans or lentils 🖤
With all sea food, which I miss as I'm vegan now but challenge you to make a dish with a vegan twist
This reminded me of the Simpsons:
"I'm a level 5 vegan. I don't eat anything that casts a shadow" 😂
Unfamiliar..what do you mean casts a shadow?
That’s hilarious!
@@dianneellis4061 ... and the bush outside the bedroom window. lol
These look incredible 🙌🙌🙌. Take it from a Honduran and try some fried plantain with some sort of vegan mozarella, refried black beans, and avocado 🥑. It is heaveeeeeeen!
I was thinking the same thing with Some vegan crema... Mmmm
Fellow Honduran here. I grew up eating plátanos rellenos. I made them last night using an air fryer. Bomb!
I am Jamaican no use a LOT of plantains in my recipes on my blog as well. Great to find you!
Point: You actually can peel the green like you peel the ripe.
I thought everyone did
Mmmmm, I already know I’ll be cooking this tomorrow 😍 looking forward to your video (I’m a huge fan!)
You've been having so much fun in your vids recently. We love to see it✨
Venezuela 🇻🇪 in the house. Plátano 🍌 Nice ideas. Buen Provecho 😊
Not just Puerto Rico, I’m Colombian and this is a staple dish in my house! 🇨🇴 We’ll make anything out of Plántanos 🤤 Plátano Arepas are amazing!
PR here!! Love this video, if I find some vegan mean in the island will try it. I have some tips for you, After peeling the plantain you want to cut it in half and then into slices, it will make it easier to fry evenly. When you go to fry the plantain you want to use more oil because it gives you an even coloring. I suggest you use a mandolin to slice the plantain (which is not necessary, we do not use them here to cut our plantain but your slices are a bit too thick for the pastelon) because when you leave it too thick it’s a bit tougher to cut in to it when you go to eat it. Remember that it’s fry and then put the oven.
I know you said you don’t like it too sweet but 2 or 3 days more (depending on our weather) would have given it a better perfect texture and flavor.
NOW you CAN definitely cut those Green plantains with a knife, when you took out that potato peeler... I almost had a heart attack.
You can try to do your version of canoas (yellow plantain) (I think you would love those). Also try arañitas (green plantain)(fun way to make you tostones, you where half way there with the fritters). I don’t know if you know what mayoketshup is but in the island is a must with our tostones (I bet you can make your own version of that).
Also sofrito will make your world go round!! We use it to make our beans, stew, our ground meet for lasagna pastelon canoa, etc. I think you’ll love it it’s all plant-based.
Caribbean gang wya??👊🏻👊🏻

Good try. Ask Nigerians 20 simpler ways to prep plantains. It's our native food
🇦🇬🇦🇬🇦🇬!
The first English person I’ve heard pronounce plantain right 🥰
He's welsh
Hi Gaz, What I love about Watching your Videos, is not only do you give us Recipes but you give us pointers on how to "Peel, Prepare, Temperature and what something should look like when it's Cooked!" I've learned so much from you over the past couple of years. Thank you! Your Books are Incredible as well❤ Blessings from Oklahoma,

I’m Puerto Rican and i can’t wait to do all tree recipes! I love the different spices you used!!!!!
Kudos for acknowledging the pastelon from Puerto Rico. It's a staple in the Puerto Rican cuisine.
Represent from 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷,veganised a bunch of Puertorican classic dishes, including Pastelon. Puertorican food is AWESOME!!!. SHOUT OUT GAZ, your channel was the first one I saw when I thought of going vegan. Thanks for the inspo.
This video is so entertaining hahaha. Like, obviously, the recipes are amazing, but your hilarious bits and sound effects omg 😂
About time someone focuses on plantain, it's underestimated and amazing in both sweet and savory dishes.
If you love a decadent dessert .. try caramelizing over ripened plantains with cinnamon sticks, a dash of sugar, butter, cloves & vanilla and serve over a couple scopes of vanilla Icecream/sea salt caramel icecream with some nuts crumbled over top 🙌🏼
*Dreamy sigh.*
O yeah, the food looks good too
I may have said this before but because of you I now have an indoor garden. My patio gets too much wind and heat to grow anything. I bought tiered planters and scotch bonnet for my first plant. I got so excited that now I grow fresh herbs and spices. I can’t wait for them to grow. I may even eat the kale! I use grow lights. They are awesome.
Never thought I would know someone who loves Plantains as much as I do...delicious!!!
Please more Moroccan and African recipes 🙏
Ahh what a suprise. Gaz just casually being a legend...yet again. Oh well guess I'll have to follow the recipes. ❤️🌱
Love that green baking dish! Beautiful!

We call the plantain lasagna pastelon in the Dominican Republic.
Celli Love I thought you guys called it something different. 🤔 Pastelon everywhere then lol
Annie Camacho that’s what we call it, pastelon. I wouldn’t say it’s called that everywhere, but keep in mind that the DR and PR are neighboring countries and share many of the same or similar dishes, as do other neighboring countries in the Caribbean.😊
Celli Love same with Cuba.
Thank you give credit where it's due
Celli Love So true. PR and DR are like sisters. {:
Oh wow haven’t tried plantain before , I must try it 🙀😊🥰💚lasagne 💚💚💚💚💚

You ever try textured vegetable protein instead of "vegan minced meat"? It's a great substitute in my experience and really inexpensive 😊
TVP is an ingredient in most Vegan Minces. It seems pretty much a staple to me lol.
I'm supposed to be studying and here I am watching your recipes of my fav foods! Love these recipes, your passion, smile and authenticity!
