John Browning was long gone from this world by 1935. He can still be credited with much of the design, however, in that it is largely an updated 1911, which he designed all on his own. He contributed a small part to the early ideas ultimately leading to the P-35, but beyond that, its finished product was exclusively the work of Dieudonné Saive, an engineer at FN, who had been Browning's protege many years previously.
