Approximately 20,000 active duty Marines in The Second Marine Division have recently been forced to adhere to a standard gear layout. While there has always been certain rules to follow regarding tactical gear; colors, having to be able to carry certain number of rifle magazines, water, no goofy patches, ect, ect. Marines were given certain liberties to place the pouches where they saw fit based on shooter ergonomics. For example, I am a taller guy with long arms and spend a lot of my time in the prone so I prefer my magazines on my belt as apposed to my chest. A new Order had been enacted in several units making everyone, regardless of job or title held place all pouches in the same location. This begins to create problems that are completely ignored. For example, a 6 foot 5 220lb machine gunner who spends the majority of the time laying on his stomach behind a tripod mounted M240 has to have his gear on his chest. The same place that the 5 foot 5, 120lb riflemen or the 5 foot 8 180lb mortar man does. The vast majority of these Marines have at least one or more deployments wearing their gear how it made sense for them or their small unit leaders. They are no longer able to do this.
My two cents. Even with no combat experience and no deployments my right mind told me to place my magazines off to my left where I could still get to them in the prone position. WOW. All because some General's OCD everyone has to look the same. Is it just me or is everyone tired of worrying about how shit looks. Form fits function. Why do these generals even care they always hop out of a helicopter with a pistol, and no rifle magazine pouches on ANY FUCKIN WAY!!!
My grandpa was a marine and this is what he told me “Marines never die they only go to hell regroup and come back”. He lost a friend in Vietnam and found another on that was also a Marine that reminded him of his old one and his still to this day thinks that it’s his old friend he lost many years ago.

I wear a cochlear implant in my right ear from an IED blast....I have some scars and burns.... I did 8 combat tours between Iraq and Afghanistan I want to go back.....I still run 3 miles in 17:49 / 47 pull-ups / 100 crunches.... I can still swim my ass off and do everything a team needs me to do... I still meet height and weight standards.. I’m 40 years old....and I can still get a 300 PFT and CFT.... I live near MCMWTC Bridgeport, CA.... Holy fuck all of the time I spent in the Corps....wish I could go back. I even wrote the commandant a letter to ask if I go back....still awaiting my response. My DD-214 says “Temporarily Retired”.... I guess I’m waiting for the board to make the call for PDRL.... Gents, make this shit happen....it’s going to be rough, tough and kick you in the ass, but at the end of the day....you can’t put a price on the pride and feeling of accomplishment that is takes to be a warrior....a Marine. Don’t forget to hydrate. I’ve already sworn in and have my ship date. I’ve learned a lot in the last couple of months and i recommend you hydrate and become what recruiters call “poolees”. This coming from a poolee who’s already had two months under his belt. Good luck! And hope you do well in the Marine Corps!👌
Velryan Castro just made it too the fleet like literally an hour ago. Checked into my unit and everything. During bootcamp, it’s going to be tough mentally and physically, don’t give up. During mct it’s going to be tougher but not as much mentally, and whatever school you’re going to is going to be a bit easier. All I have to say is don’t give up, don’t give in and you’ll be fine.
Looks cool if you're lucky to be attached with them. The monitors don't give a shit and see you to whatever spot they want you. Now I'm in a unit with almost 30 SGTs in one dam platoon.
