i just remember on part two when they are leaving this scene, Brad was sooo upset! i never seen him like this at this point ever in a game before. that scene was upsetting to see joel die like that. i cant forget this part and especially when Brad stopped the game on the first play through.

Rewatching this and the pain Ellie shows at Joel’s death makes the ending all that much harder to not get my head around. Like why did they have to end it the way they did? 😭😭😭
Because the writers want Ellie to heal. Really heal. Goes right along in line with real world parents who will forgive the killer of their child, because to stay on that dark path, in that dark place, isn't honoring their child...it's simply destroying their soul.
That being said, I get the desire for revenge, on BOTH Ellie and Abby's part. Everyone seems to forget that Abby lost her legit, biological dad to a murderous maniac... ;)

One detail I always notice now at 7:45 is when Tommy says that’s Joel her expression changes because she realizes that’s her dads killer she also can not take her eyes off him

Like I agree Joel wanted to save Ellie, but he should’ve knocked out Jerry, Abby dad and that what made Abby and her friends going after Joel. Probably Abby friends parents also got killed by Joel.

Even though Abby was built like a brick you can still see how weak she really was because she chose to ambush & handicap Joel first instead of confronting him properly. She even needed a group to get him. In contrast of the first game, where Joel alone went alone. Joel & Tommy would've won that fight no doubt if they weren't ambushed like that.

Hence the built like a brick. Spent four years training to be a physical boss to get every advantage possible.

Part 1 and Part 2 may be the best stories ever written for a video game. So many people got so hung up on Joels shocking death that they didn't understand the true weight behind the entire story, yourself included Brad when I watched your original playthrough of this game. I hope you have come to apprieciate the story of Part 2 now, it's so incredibly dark and brutal, but also beautiful. I loved Joel as we all did, but I believe all the story elements in this game were justified. Laura Bailey is also a fantastic actress and Abby a fantastic character the way we hated her so much initally. The way this story addresses trauma and regret will always be in my heart. Thank you Brad for re-visiting this game and to Neil D for being an absolute genius and taking such a massive risk with this game/story.
I absolutely agree. It was extremely shocking to see Joel die in such a brutal way but it was understandable. Us playing as Abby, the bad guy, (which has never been done before) was suppose to allow the player to understand her anger and to be in her perspective. Looking back it’s pretty cool we are able to see Ellie’s perspective and Abby’s perspective and see how the difference in perspective changes one’s feelings and behaviors. Ellie, Abby, and Joel are all justified in what they did. But that doesn’t mean it was right. The fact that we all got sad and some even angry goes to show how good the storytelling is. The only downfall was Last of Us 2 being unable to make some players feel for Abby. Was it the storytelling and the organization of when we saw Abby’s backstory? Was it the players being too reactionary to Joel’s death? Maybe a bit of both who knows. IMO I liked that we saw him die first then got to learn more about Abby. We not only were shocked but also had to go through playing as Abby, how interesting and unique. Either way Last of Us 1 and 2 was made brilliantly. I can’t wait to see what the HBO series does to it.

I think it’s funny how when I first discovered you, it was around when Last of Us came out. I was 7 ish at the time and I would play exactly like how you did when I watched your videos. I’m 18 going on 19 now and I’ve beaten that game roughly 20 times and it’s my all time favorite. I love you and all that you do for the community. Thank you Brad!

The problem with this game was that you feel like mourning for at least the following two chapters after Joel's death, and sorrow is not a feeling that drives you into playing. That's where so many people dropped the game missing out the rest of it which is fantastic.
Well, TBH Naughty Dog games are slick linear games, but ultimately the gameplay is unsophisticated to the point of being hardly much different to games from the 1990s. The writing, motion capture and presentation are what keep you going and if the story isn't to your liking you aren't going to keep on playing. All of the things Bruce Straley threw out of the first game for being unrealistic in a post-apocalypse world ended up in part 2 which shows how Druckmann doesn't learn and is stubborn. As we know, this game was always going to get 10/10 from all the access media because they're all about destroying strong male characters. I watched a playthrough of it and it just reinforced how repetitive it is. It's different when you're playing it of course. But the game was just too long for the style of game it is. Long games are fine when they're open world with a variety of things to do.

There's a feature in the accessibility settings to ping items when using listen mode. Makes playing the game go by faster so you're not taking up too much time looting and so you don't miss anything.

I remember cracking up at how you couldn't stop talking about how upset you were about them throwing you that curve ball, and killing him off at the beginning of the game. Hehe, memories. :D

I hate that they killed Joel so early/at all I loved him and hate how they made Ellie dislike him.
For as much eye candy this game provides (it looks amazing at 4k fidelity mode on PS5)... It is such a dark, dark series. Especially some of the "hidden" notes to loved ones, they just really make the world and infection believable... That being said, we all lived through the time that was C-19, that made many of these "outbreaks" more real to us all.
I don't think there's been a game that's hurt or shocked me this bad until this one 😭 Even just rewatching Joel's scene broke my heart, I forgot to breathe like damn why do that to him 😢
Whenever I play this game again I skip like 90% of the cutscenes because they are so soul crushing lmao. Love this masterpiece.

Joel dying isn’t the only thing that made me cry. The suspense and the look on his face had to be the worst feeling ever he’s just an old man who was trying to get back on ellie’s goodside😢 man that scene will always be the worst game cutscene ever

You can really see both sides of the story here. Joel getting killed because he killed Abby's father and she's just in grief and taking her revenge by killing joel and on the other side Joel killed her father just to save her daughter though it wasn't his fault killing her father it's him who tried to fight with him. However, his father wasn't wrong too, he wanted to save the world, trying to find vaccine... And now after Joel died in front of Ellie which creates a loop father gets killed and daughters getting revenge which is very well written, story, game, everything is amazing❣

I know a lot of people griped about Joel's death, but I'm sorry, he accepted that his past caught up to him and took it like a boss he was.

Not too sure many people would be able to do that and Naughty Dog showed him respect in how they had him handle his fate.
