      @@annacrabtree5011 You can slow down the video. Just click on the little cog wheel icon on the bottom of the video and you will see how to adjust speed to meet your needs. I have done this with several tutorials and find it helpful. I usually watch the whole thing thru at normal speed first and then adjust to support my learning ability. Hope this helps :)

    You have opened up my world. I had a ukulele for 4 years . Never touching it till one day I got it out and searched you tube and there you were. I can do the beginners lesson really good and even was inspired to teach my self to play Hallelujah. Wellll... it's a work in progress. Lol. Since my mother's stroke ,I play for her what I know and she sang. That is good to strengthen her vocal cords and throat. Thank you for being there and giving me a purpose. Look forward to the next lesson forward Laura. Maybe you can tell me what is your next video ,after beginners? Thanks sallie

      Thanks so much Sallie, I'm happy to hear that you're feeling inspired to start playing your uke! That's so sweet that you're playing Hallelujah for your mother to sing with you. I'd suggest checking out my Ukulele For Beginners Series playlist next, followed by Fundamentals and Techniques, and then 3 and 4 chord songs. Here's a link to all of my playlists: bit.ly/3ysmx0i Thanks for the question!

    I agree with what others had said. Thankfully this video was among the ones that popped up during my first few hours with an ukulele. I forgot what I searched for. For now, I'm not aiming at going above beginner's level. I just want to learn simple songs like the ones that you have here and get them perfect.
    I love the song choices and the island strumming pattern. The images showing the lyrics along with the chords are very helpful. Thank you! Upvoted and subscribed.

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic
      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  3 года назад +5

      Thank you, I'm glad you found this helpful! The 2nd pattern can take some time to master. One thing that you can try is to add the upstrums in stages. For example, you can start with D-DU--D-, practice that for a while, then add in the 2nd upstrum for D-DU-UD-, and eventually play the entire pattern. Playing it at a slow tempo will help you to learn it, and once you feel comfortable with it then start bringing the pattern up to speed and apply it to a song. Let me know if you think a tutorial on this would be helpful :) Try to be patient with it...most new things on ukulele take some time to learn and with consistent practice you'll get there!

    When you are on the up strum are you strumming all the stings or just the bottom ones? I’m having such a horrible time trying to learn an up strum ( hitting all the strings ) thank you. Your tutorials are fabulous.

      Hi Joanne, I'm glad you're enjoying the tutorials, thanks! It's ok to only catch 2 or 3 strings on the upstrum. It's definitely more challenging than the downstrum. Over time your strumming will improve and you'll catch all 4 strings more often, but try not to let it frustrate you. It will get easier and more consistent with practice 😊

    thank you for this tutorial, but i find it really hard to switch between the chords quickly

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic

      Hi Shahad, it helps to practice at a slow tempo when first learning these songs. It takes some time for our left hand to build the muscle memory for the chord positions. Try to be patient with it and with regular practice you'll be able to change chords more quickly. Please don't feel discouraged...we all struggle with this as beginners and I promise it does get easier over time 😊

    Thank you so much this helps a lot! I just have one question, when I stum my ukelele it echos a bit after each strum, is there a way to fix that? love the video :)

    • @LaraMarkowitzMusic
      @LaraMarkowitzMusic  3 года назад +1

      I'm so glad you found this helpful! 🤗 I haven't experienced echoing so I'm not sure what to suggest for that. If it's more of a buzzing sound, you may be able to fix it by playing closer to the frets or by putting new string on your uke.
